We stayed for two nights at the beginning of our trip through the south of Vietnam at the end of februari 2013.
The hotel has a really elegant colonial atmosphere - its like going back in time. If you are into colonial style hotels - you'll love this one! It's also very convenient for sight seeing, shopping and the view from the bar on the roof!
We had a colonial room on the street side. The room and bathroom looked clean and was beautifully decorated with a lovely old fashioned phone. Comfortable huge bed and surprisingly little noise from the busy street. The airco is a bit noisy but we were just glad to have one! It was hot outside!!
One niggle that spoilt my love of the hotel were the price tags on everything in the room. It must be a real problem there that some people take things from the room but this hotel is taking it to the extreem. We were still in our room when the turn down service did their rounds so they left the chocolates hung on the door in a little basket with a rather large price tag on it - I just found it insulting in the end! (I forgot to take a photo!)
The pool is not large but ideal if you come back from a hard day of sightseeing. When we were there the hotel was not very busy and we just managed to get two sunbeds when we arrived back at about 16hr. The pool is lovely though and has the same elegant atmosphere as the rest of the hotel
We went for a drink on one night but the music was so load that we decided against it. The music didn't really fit in with the elegant atmosphere of the bar - pity
We loved the breakfast! There is outside and inside seating. We managed to get the tables at the balcony so we could watch the river and the busy street while we ate breakfast. The choice is very good with everything from eggs as you like, pancakes, yoghurts to dimsum (loved those!) to the Asian style breakfast. I do remember there is not much choice of breads, cakes or jams.
Breeze Sky Bar
This is the same restaurant as the buffet breakfast.
The buffet looked wonderful and probably good value for money but as we are not large eaters we prefer a la cart and a good bottle of wine. Wine is not a good idea in Vietnam - even though the hotel stocks some very good wines - they are very expensive compared to European prices - and as we unfortunately found out- most of the waiters have no idea about wine and do not understand that wine can be corked. We had expected beter of a country that had been under French rule for so long! We were made to veel very uncomfortable when we rejected a rather expensive bottle of wine because it was corked - and not lightly either!!
We were also not very impressed with the a la cart menu of the Breeze Sky Bar.
Stick to the view with a fruit smoothie - and the buffet!
Restaurants in the area
There are so many options in walking distance of this hotel. We went to restaurant Time which is just a 5 minute walk - nothing special (no shows) just nice (healthy) Vietnamese food.
