“Wonderful Colonial Style Hotel”
Reviewed 6 March 2013

We stayed for two nights at the beginning of our trip through the south of Vietnam at the end of februari 2013.

The Hotel
The hotel has a really elegant colonial atmosphere - its like going back in time. If you are into colonial style hotels - you'll love this one! It's also very convenient for sight seeing, shopping and the view from the bar on the roof!

Room
We had a colonial room on the street side. The room and bathroom looked clean and was beautifully decorated with a lovely old fashioned phone. Comfortable huge bed and surprisingly little noise from the busy street. The airco is a bit noisy but we were just glad to have one! It was hot outside!!
One niggle that spoilt my love of the hotel were the price tags on everything in the room. It must be a real problem there that some people take things from the room but this hotel is taking it to the extreem. We were still in our room when the turn down service did their rounds so they left the chocolates hung on the door in a little basket with a rather large price tag on it - I just found it insulting in the end! (I forgot to take a photo!)

The pool
The pool is not large but ideal if you come back from a hard day of sightseeing. When we were there the hotel was not very busy and we just managed to get two sunbeds when we arrived back at about 16hr. The pool is lovely though and has the same elegant atmosphere as the rest of the hotel

M bar
We went for a drink on one night but the music was so load that we decided against it. The music didn't really fit in with the elegant atmosphere of the bar - pity

Breakfast
We loved the breakfast! There is outside and inside seating. We managed to get the tables at the balcony so we could watch the river and the busy street while we ate breakfast. The choice is very good with everything from eggs as you like, pancakes, yoghurts to dimsum (loved those!) to the Asian style breakfast. I do remember there is not much choice of breads, cakes or jams.

Breeze Sky Bar
This is the same restaurant as the buffet breakfast.
The buffet looked wonderful and probably good value for money but as we are not large eaters we prefer a la cart and a good bottle of wine. Wine is not a good idea in Vietnam - even though the hotel stocks some very good wines - they are very expensive compared to European prices - and as we unfortunately found out- most of the waiters have no idea about wine and do not understand that wine can be corked. We had expected beter of a country that had been under French rule for so long! We were made to veel very uncomfortable when we rejected a rather expensive bottle of wine because it was corked - and not lightly either!!
We were also not very impressed with the a la cart menu of the Breeze Sky Bar.
Stick to the view with a fruit smoothie - and the buffet!

Restaurants in the area
There are so many options in walking distance of this hotel. We went to restaurant Time which is just a 5 minute walk - nothing special (no shows) just nice (healthy) Vietnamese food.

We stayed here for one night during Lunar New Year. The hotel is a paradise compared to the noise, people and traffic outside. A beautiful hotel in a very central spot. Check in was very efficient and we were shown to our room by one of the senior staff. Our room was beautiful - very large with a balcony overlooking the river. Very comfortable bed with efficient air conditioning. The balcony doors and windows are double glazed so we had a peaceful night's sleep. We enjoyed a drink at the rooftop bar and ended up staying on for the seafood buffet which was amazing - well worth the money. I would definitely recommend the Majestic - would stay here again

Dear SGB2011,
We are so glad to hear you enjoyed the Lunar New Year at Hochiminh City and that we were able to be a part of this experience from the beginning.
We also appreciate your comments and advice given to future travellers. Our hotel is located next to Saigon River with splendid view toward district 2, however we are also next to one of the busiest streets in Hochiminh City that may make some noise even though we already set up a double glazed door for Saigon River View Rooms.
Again thank you for your kind comment.

The Majestic lives up to its name as the grand old lady of Saigon that it is. The architecture is elegant, and the building is full of the ghosts of another more gracious era. Anonymous business hotel it is not! Enjoy afternoon tea to the accompaniment of a piano and violin duo and you could almost be back in the 30's. It's a place of impeccable standards and some pretensions. If you appreciate total efficiency, deference at every turn and like your complimentary bottled water to come in a beribboned satin bag, this is the place for you! That said, we thought the room rates surprisingly reasonable given the quality of the accommodation - including spacious rooms and super comfortable beds. But the stand-out experience for us at the Majestic was the rooftop terrace with fabulous views over the Saigon River. An evening cocktail here provides an opportunity to watch the life of this vibrant city swirling below and just celebrate being in Vietnam!

What an absolutely beautiful hotel with fantastic service. We were due to arrive into Ho Chi Minh City at 7pm, out plane was delayed and we arrived at our hotel at 4:30am. We had asked the airline to call and let them know so they were aware when we got there. They were so good making check-in a breeze and as quick as possible. We asked if late check out was possible and it was no trouble at all, they told us to just get some rest.
The room was amazing, bed super comfortable, everything was just beautiful. When we woke the next day the fresh fruit was a nice treat. We had booked this hotel as a treat for our one night in HCMC, it was a shame we didn't get to fully utilise it, however for the little bit we were there was simply amazing. Would love to stay again.

As from the arrival with a very quick check-in until the ultra fast check out was this hotel great and real value for money. The rooms are spacious, very very clean with fantastic big beds and ditto bathroom. All is very well restored and in perfect working condition. Besides the rooms and the service they run a great breakfast and offer a nice roof terrance overlooking the river. It was a pleasure to stay here.

Stayed here over Chinese New Year (Tet). Super service and a lovely room. The hotel is not modern in design with high ceilings but has all modern amenities and a great breakfast room on the roof with great river views. It is right in the centre of the city so ideal for sightseeing.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the street

The Majestic is an elegant colonial style hotel at the end of the most glamorous street in the city and by the river. The staff are wonderful, rooms gorgeous and the breakfast open air terrace is superb.Breakfasts are marvellous and evening cocktails on either of the roof top bars a top experience-you can see why Graham Green loved the hotel.
