“Convenient location”
Reviewed 5 May 2014 via mobile

Stayed 4 days at the Rex and enjoyed it immensely. Our room was very nice, the staff friendly and efficient, and the breakfast buffet was extensive.
We had a transfer booked from the airport and also a trip on the mekong all well organised. The location is very convenient.

The Rex Hotel was chosen for us by our travel guru - Sunshine Travel Vietnam based in Hanoi so we hoped that it would be suitable to provide a fitting end to our tour of Vietnam. Before arriving we read some of the reviews posted on the various web sites, mostly positive it must be said but posted recently seemed at odds and we wondered why this should be so?

Our arrival was met by several bell boys and door staff, the reception staff were thorough and efficient with our reservation documents already completed. Staff escorted us to our room, which for some reason the hotel had upgraded for us FOC, we did not ask for or pay for this - it just happened. The room was spacious, spotless and well appointed even to provision of a bowl of fresh fruit. Bathrobes, slippers and all the toiletries you could need for your stay.

Breakfast the following two mornings was a feast both for your eyes and also for the food available, how anyone could not be satisfied with this is beyond reason.

The location is superb, the bright lights, the bling and fancy shops more accustomed to Paris and New York, are within the same building.

The roof top pool, there are two and one was under a maintenance programme, was again spotless and attended by staff throughout the day, drinks and snacks can be bought and eaten on the roof top terrace. This is a 5 star hotel in the centre of Ho Chi Minh City and the prices are still very reasonable.

In summary, the Rex is an excellent choice for a stay in HCMC, there were families with young children, those of more mature years like ourselves and even a school party from Australia and all seemed to be equally happy with their choice of hotel, in no way did this impact on our enjoyment and we shall certainly return next year.

Thank you to all the staff who make this hotel special.

Room Tip: Leave it to the staff, they always try to accommodate travellers needs.

We stayed here for two nights and the service was outstanding. The staff on reception speak excellent English and are willing to go over and beyond to help. The breakfast is set on the ground floor amoungst a beautiful vertical garden that scales the walls of the courtyard. Very tranquil. The hotel is located close to the shopping precinct and walking distance from everywhere. Very enjoyable stay!

Stayed April 2014 with family (2 kids 9 and 12) - third time we have stayed and breakfast is always the highlight. Arrived and was granted an automatic upgrade but unfortunately the suite was for two people only, so had to organise to be switched back to original room, which was fine but annoying after 14 hr flights and a booking that clearly stated four people. The hotel was under renovation, which meant that our favourite spot, the historic and iconic rooftop bar was half closed. There is also a new swimming pool being installed, which might be a improvement on the current small facility (but didn't look much bigger). There is no pool bar in operation at present which meant chasing down a waiter or going to the rooftop bar to fetch refreshment in the hot Saigon sun. However, it still remains a great place to stay in Saigon - the breakfast buffet is still best in SE Asia by my experience and rooms good, still a sense of history about the place.

It was a great experience staying here for a week. The A/C was just like American air conditioning and it wasn't noisy or busy. It was great to wake up refreshed, head down to the buffet and then set out for the busy streets of Saigon for the day.

The only complaint was that the rooms seemed a bit dewy... but I guess that is to be expected because of the constant rain and humidity in Vietnam.

There was free computer access (only 2 computer though in a main area) and it was never busy at night. A great time to chat with American counterparts.

My wife and I along with our 12-year old stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. While there was some construction work at the hotel, we found our room to be great and did not encounter any issues. The room was large, recently updated, and located in a great spot. The rooftop bar/restaurant has a great view. The breakfast was absolutely outstanding.

Stayed here from 10/4 till 14/4.
The rooms were average at best. My main grouse was the swimming pool. This is a so call 5 star hotel with over 200 guests at any time. But they shut down the main pool just so the hotel can use the pool area as a walkway to the coffeehouse. The other swimming pool is so small it's about the size if my small toe. The wooden flooring in the gym is uneven causing me to trip several times. Please stay away from this badly managed 5 star hotel. It's at best a 2 star with a lousy swimming pool for kids.
