Originally my partner and I were going to spend the rest of our holidays with family. It was a last minute decision to book a hotel. It was the best decision we made. We asked for rates in the hotel but staff reccommended us to go online and book to receieve a better rate. We booked the rex suite but got upgrade to an even better suite (governer suite). It exceeded all my expectations. The room was huge, we didn't really need an Extra bathroom and lounge but the room was just amazing. The staff were genuinely happy working and provided us with loads of info with stuff to do. The location was very close to many shops like vincom center 1&2, parksons, saigon square, ben thanh etc. Our room was located on the 5th floor in the west wing and heard no construction whatsoever. Although drinks are overpriced here its really the atmosphere that carrys the hotel. The only negative I had was the breakfast buffet, while it had a large selection many of the hot foods were barely warm and dried out. Other than that I'd be happy to stay here again.

The hotel is an old dog that's being upgraded. As a result construction work noise affects many rooms and there is nothing that can be done about it.
Staff are quite friendly but service is mediocre and a bit commie style. The hotel appears to be part of a government chain.
Outlet prices are insane-it's hard to comprehend that you are in Vietnam. Like $10 for a juice at the courtyard cafe? hello! That sort of overcharging permeates the whole operation.
Beware of over friendly touts who hang around the front entrance and have the blessing of security.Ignore or be ripped off.

Room Tip: Don't get a room near alteration work.

I agree with all reviews here.
Great location, spacious and comfortable room, plentiful breakfast even though not that exquisite...
Overall, definitely an hotel with character that I recommend.

But how come there is no minimal isolation in the windows!

Got a room with a view on the park/City Hall, 3rd floor, and it was not always pleasant but it was bearable for me, no complains.
But this Ice cream vendor!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy killed me. His 5 seconds melody is still echoing in my head, 4 days after I left HCMC.
He is standing there with his Ice Cream motorbike every single night and till 23:00.

I wouldn't recommend a room on this side of the hotel. But not sure it is better elsewhere if there is no isolated glass!
I wonder why the hotel is not asking him to put his music box on a 'silent' mode!? Or simply buy all his ice cream stock 'cause he is digging from late afternoon till night...

Room Tip: CIty Hall side is noisy... Avoid!

We stayed at the Rex for five nights this July. We were treated very respectfully in many situations. The service at breakfast is great, the food is very good. Many choices of Vietnamese food. We had two rooms, both were very spacious and clean. The general manager thanked us at the end of our stay and was very gracious.

Room Tip: Get a room that is NOT on the fourth floor, as the rooftop bar was above my head and I had to wait u...

I stayed in rex hotel for business based in the recommendation from Vietnam office. For 5 star hotel the room is just Okay nothing special. It's in old Building but They have a luxury shopping area such Cartier and Rolex shops. The room is old. The Lobby is nice. The location is very closed to tourist place in district 1 such as opera house and city hall with Ho Chi Minh statue in front. But beware of shoe shine boys scam as I took pity of him and ask to shine my shoe then after finished He asked for $50! I was serounded by 3 boys but i was not afraid i took back my shoe and gave him $1 and walk away. Screw them. My first business trip to Saigon left a bad impression for me.
