“Part of Honeymoon”
Reviewed 13 January 2010

Our first time to Vienam. Fantastic, I would go back tomorrow if i could.
We didnt know what to expect, when we arrived it was hectic, so many motobikes but you soon get used to it.
When we arrived at the hotel they asked us if we would like to upgrade which we did as it was our first destination on our honeymoon.
The room was lovely, actually it was two rooms, bedroom and sitting room, two bathrooms, two tvs, dvd, free internet or wifi, two balconys. We could eat breakfast in the vip lounge in the mornings which was nice and we had free tea, cakes and nibbles.
The staff were lovely and couldnt do enough for you.
The hotel is situated right bang in the middle of Ho Chi Minh which was great.
Loads of tourist police and we never felt threatened at all.
Visited the war museum which was horrific but an eye opener.
The Chu Chi Tunnels are a must, amazing.
I would like to go back sooner rather than later as the country is becoming commerialised and you will see designer shops popping up everywhere, which is a shame.
Dont be surprised to see 5 on a bike with a live pig, we saw a double bed on one bike and another carrying a huge water tank.
The roads do seem dangerous but you quickly learn how to cross and the motobikes do avoid you.
I cant wait to go back!!!

We stayed here for 2 nights in Dec after staying at the Sheraton. I was somewhat disappointed in the room. The shower water pressure was very weak. The room was comfortable and clean though. We were given $5 or 10 voucher for the spa when we checked in. When we tried to use them we were told we couldn't because we were given some gift during our treatment. This was quite poor service, if you are going to give away vouchers, you should honour them.

We will come back to Caravelle. Excellent location. Beautifull hotel. Great staff with so much attention to details.Little yellow rubber duckies are a great hit with my young children. Matress, pillows and linen are devine. Great place to return to after a long hot tiring day of exploring the beautifull Saigon.

The Hotel keeps the great traditions of excellent service which it inherited from French colonial times. Everything is really great - the service, the room, the breakfast. Plenty of towels and toileteries, the matress is extra comfortable. Everything (I mean air conditioning, WiFi Internet, TV) is operational. The staff is extremly friendly. The only minus is too many drunk and under drug tourists there. Even local prostitutes didn't disturb our males here. I do love the hotel and Saigon as well and the Southern Vietnam and will come here again for leasure.

The Caravelle is a nicely decorated hotel right in the heart of the City wihin walking distance to lots of stuff, eg war museum, Reunification Palace, ben Thanh markets and plenty shops and restaurants. really the location is great, and the rooftop Saigon Saigon Bar is a great place to have dinner or drinks and look out over the city. The prices for food and drinks there is not cheap, its almost the same as what you would pay in Australia, however the service is good. The staff are again quite helpful (im starting to think that being helpful and friendly is the order of the day in all of vietnam). Bad points: they dont give you UHT milk in your room for coffee, you get powdered whitener - YUK!! We opened a mars bar from our minibar and it was white, as in the chocolate had gone funny, although it wasnt past the use by date so it may have just been because of the weather or something, however i complained about this and they immediately brought up new chocolates and we didnt have to pay for the one we opened. The beds are great, huge king bed with massive pillow top you just sink right into it, the pillows are quite large, bigger than most people probably are used to but they are soft and i kind of started to like them. We had two rooms ( we were travelling as two couples) and so we got Signature room floors and i asked for two rooms next to eachother, our rooms were opposite eachother, which is fine, however we had a pool view and they had a city view, and their room was much bigger than ours, between the bed and the coffee table and couch they had a heap of room to stash their suitcase or lie on the floor or even do a little dance! however our room had a footstep between the bed and table, so i was annoyed at that as we paid the same price. The room was clean, The shower was weird, i couldnt figure out how to use the tap and how to adjust the hot/cold, however my husband said he had no issues iguring it out (hmmm perhaps i was just having a blonde moment!) I dont like the shower in the bathtub design because i feel unsafe and slippery in the bathtub although they do provide a non slip mat. There is a clothesline to hang your clothes on over the bath, that was good, there are plenty towels and good shampoos/moisturisers etc to use, and a good vanity kit with ear cleaners, shaving cream, shaver toothbrush/paste, nail file. The driver who picked us up from the airport in the minivan with complimentary water bottles was great, chatted the whole way ( his name was Son, but unfortunately about half the men who work there share the same name). The van had leather seats which turned 360 degrees around and it was spacious and aircon'd. There are porters at the front doors who push the door open fro you whenever you enter or leave the building, cool. The outside and reception area is grand, the rooms are nice but somewhat boring and as another person mentioned, somewhat beige-business-like, they could do something to spice the rooms up a bit. Our price included a buffet breakfast each day, all day soft drinks available in gthe Signature lounge and canapes and alcoholic drinks from 5.30 to 7.30 each day. GThe breakfast has a good variety of cereals and juices but the hot food was not good, the scrambled egss are made and sit in the warmer for who knows how long, and they have either sausages, bacon (dry and hard), cooked ham (ok), dim sims etc, they have bread and jam if you want toast. All in all it was ok but could definetely be improved. On the other hand the canapes they have in the evening are fantastic, they have a great selection of cold and hot foods, delicious sushi, fresh bread and cheeses, brie camembert etc, and hot foods like chips, osso bucco, chicken, crumbed prawns, yummy stuff that was fresh and a nerw batch regularly brought out. We did not have to buy dinner after we ate there, you can fully hav e ameal there and it was included in our price so that was great. The alcoholic drinks are weird, my mate got the same drink as me, theirs was almost undrinkably strong wheras mine was nicely blended. And the same waiter mixed them. I love that you could use the internet there for free, part of being a business lounge customer i guess. Checkin and chekout were effiicient and all charges were made clear to me. The robes in the rooms were great they had huge heavy thick towelling ones and thinner, soft cotton ones which i actually wouldnt mind buying one, it was white background with soft blue swirl pattern, simple and plain looking but it set off my tan something killer! ha ha. and was comfy, they also provide slippers for you to wear and a safe and ironing board. The worst part of the stay was the tiles around the pool, they are super slippery and i fell over once and also saw a toddler fall over the same day, they really need to do something about that, other wise the pool is nice with food drink service available and lounge chairs, there is also a killer gym (not that i used it but i saw it). They have a spa where you can get all kinds of beauty treatmnents but the prices are really expensive! I might go back there - still undecided.

If you have never been to Ho Chi Minh or to Vietnam and have worries about it then put yourself at ease and book a room at the Caravelle. It is a very western hotel that will accomodate your every need. Stay a day or two until you are situated and then venture out to possibly some less expensive but nice hotels.

The hotel is located across from the beautiful Opera house. Plenty of great restaurants in close proximity as well as great shopping nearby including the famous Bin Than Market. There is great food inside the hotel also. The Sunday brunch is as good or better than any hotel anywhere in the world. Every night they have a huge buffet with fresh seafood, prime meats, special desserts etc. However, it is pricey and there are excellent local dining establishments which are dirt cheap close by.

The bar at the top of the hotel is a great place to look down at the surge of energy going on in the street. This bar was patronized by many of the newspaper and television reporters during the Vietnamese war. Nightly the reporters would use the bar phone to get their stories to their editors.

If you want to go on tours around the city or to the Cu Chi tunnels the concierge will take excellent care of you.

The caravelle is always highly recommended by my friends and me.

We have stayed in the Caravelle from 20-25 december and it was beautiful there with all the christmasdecorations!
Our room; 1914 (Premium Deluxe) was very nice; large with a beautiful view and a very comfortable large bed. One of the most comfortable beds I ever slept in.
The Caravelle is quite expensive though.
There are a few minor things which could be improved; in a hotel from this standard a complimentary newspaper would have been nice. Also there was no Wi-fi in the room.
Bathroom is complete but not very big.
Location is really very good.
Staff is very friendly and helpfull and there is a very nice swimming pool.
When I would visit Saigon again I probably would stay in the Caravelle again.
