“NEVER AGAIN!!!”
Reviewed 22 May 2012

Tried to 'dine in' at the restaurant 3 times. First night, mixed up our orders. Second night, meals were cold. Third night, worst 'steak' I have ever encountered. Could not cut it!! Very poor English from staff. No one to complain to. (We were the only 2 people in said restaurant on each occasion)!! At checkin, tried to place us in 'superior' room instead of 'deluxe room' (which we paid for). Wanted to keep our Passports as security too. Lousy location for restaurants for Westerners. Excellent bus service right outside the front door to Dong Khoi area though. 4,000 vnd each way. Breakfast was average, but worse was watching the Chinese 'guests' load up THEIR plates, leaving the dishes on offer almost depleted. Then they would pick at a few things and leave the rest. (They would take all the bread and eat one piece. Same with the fruit, etc., etc.). VERY ARROGANT!!!!! Sorry, Never again at Dong Khanh!!!

We stayed here for a few nights at the start and at the end of our trip. The staff there are very helpful and very patient with any request that we had. Alvis was especially helpful and a very friendly fella at that. Although the hotel is a bit far from district 1 it's only a $4 taxi ride into the city. Beds a tad hard but didn't lose any sleep because of it. Overall a great experience.

The biggest surprise which was offerred to me on the arrival, I have found my
name as the Guest of the day written on a big Board close to the front Desk.
Hotel is a bit far from City Center, but close also to other Restaurants and shopping
Markets. The Restaurant is often used for Wedding receptions so it is another advantage
to watch the ceremonies and listen to the music

friendly staff, ok value for money. Asked for double but given twin. Breakfast not great. Room OK, bathroom had some dead bugs and was a bit run down. District 1 prob better area if just in saigon for a day or 2 as nearer transport, bars and places to eat. Cholon area worth exploring however.

Stayed here twice for four nights in total. Seems popular with Chinese visitors. An older hotel so don't expect modern luxuries and furniture. Clean room and good staff. Breakfast is very good but done to Chinese taste. Did not try the restaurant. Noise not as bad as previous reviews. Both our rooms had double glazed windows so it appears they are trying to fix the noise problem. The best part about staying here is that it is in a colourful part of town. Cholon district seems to retain much of the older style Saigon character which has been lost in the CBD. Great place to explore. Visit the nearby Hoa Binh market or the enormous Binh Tay market. We enjoyed eating at the many good local Com restaurants. I would recommend this hotel for someone who likes a little more adventure and is not too fussed about modern niceties.

Rooms were pretty good. Awesome decor, clean and spacious. Beds were a tad bit hard tho.

We got complimentary fruit baskets and mineral water bottles on the first day - which was a pleasant surprise. My only complaint is that the air-conditioning in the rooms weren't too great. Either the rooms were too big and it took too long for the rooms to cool down or the air-conditioning units needed servicing. Ho Chi Minh city was hot and humid - would've been great to go back to a nice, cooling room after a long, hot day of sight-seeing.

Breakfast buffet provided wasn't too bad - better than some of the 3-star hotels I've been to, but definitely not the best out there.

It's location wasn't too bad, somewhere between the major sights and Chinatown- cabs cost about 30-50,000 dong either direction (refer to a map of Ho Chi Minh city and you'll see what I'm talking about =) ) We got free copies of the city map handed to us the moment we arrived at the Ho Chi Minh Airport and the maps had the names of some of the sights written in Vietnamese, so was easier to direct cab drivers (esp when we forgot to ask the receptionist to write down the name of the place)

Staff at the reception were really helpful and spoke enough English to get us by. They suggested some pretty good eateries too!

Overall, a relatively comfortable place to stay in, tho I'm not sure if it was the best value for money.
