“Easy stay for one night ”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014 via mobile

I see my name on a placard as I exit the airport and am taken to the hotel by hotel car.

The location couldn't be better for this self-rated 3-star hotel, right in the middle of the centre of town.

I am warmly welcomed and acknowledged for having booked a agoda.com. My room is on the 1st floor and is everything I had expected from the reviews on tripadvisor.com, right down to the hard bed (which is my preference).

And it is cheap - everything in HCM city is. 80c draft beers at the pool bar, $12 full body massages with oil. Incidentally I had one and nearly died in the process when my neck was cracked not once but twice.

Breakfast is fine - an assortment of Vietnamese and Western dishes. The only 'unusual' point is the large round tables you share with other people whilst having your breakfast.

The staff are extremely polite and nothing is too difficult for them.

An easy stay for a night or two.

A very good standard hotel for the price, and in a great location in the heart of district 1. Easy access to a range of great dining options, and only a 2 minute walk to the river. There is an ongoing upgrade of the rooms, with about 60% of rooms complete. I originally was in one of the older rooms, and found the mattress too hard, and on moving to a renovated room it was of a much higher standard. Over good staff, great location and great value.

We had a super deluxe room (triple) with timber floors. Air conditioner and wifi worked perfectly.
Ensuite is well layed out, shower over bath, hot water excellent. Safe is always a welcome site.
We stayed 2 nights at Huong Sen Hotel, we found the location brilliant, walking distance to all attractions Post office, Opera House, River, War Museum & Market. The rooftop pool is small but is exactly what you need after walking the City sites. Our buffet style breakfast was located in a french style room with fruit, egg station, coffee & tea (green) french pastries a delight each morning. Overall we were very pleased with our choice of Hotel giving best value/location.
Plenty of places to eat within one block, but don't disregard Vietnam House directly across road (see review). For a quick lunch Pho 24 is is also close-by (see review).
Would stay here again, our flight schedule was changed and hotel helped with a FOC (free of charge) late check-out. Contacted hotel directly for booking, staff were always prompt with their email replies. Thanks for a pleasant stay Huong Sen.

Room Tip: Email hotel directly and ask for quiet/non smoking room with timber floors.

Chosen from previous reviews and because we had 3 beds in a room (travelling with a 10 and 14 year old). Walking distance to a lot of the city sites and restaurants it definitely met our needs for a 2 night stay.

Located in District 1, Huong Sen represents great value, cleanliness & outstanding Customer service . Approx 300 mtrs from the Saigon river & a similar walk in the opposite direction to the Opera House the hotel has easy access to the central markets,Museums & any number of good restaurants all an easy walk.
The rooftop pool is an absolute haven after a long day of touring, sightseeing or shopping & although only small is surprisingly cool. Cannot recommend it any more BUT do not get an inside room. These look straight into another room. The street side rooms have a small balcony & the noise from the traffic is not enough to trouble your sleep.
Unfortunately, I hvae no photos to post as my carry bag fell in the ocean a day or too after we stayed & my pics were lost.

Room Tip: Street rooms on a higher floor. Plenty of eateries & bars.

This hotel is clean and comfortable and within walking distance of lots of stuff to do in Ho Chi Minh
However the decor is very dated in my opinion very beige and brown. Makes it seem dark. There was a nice balcony but no chairs on it. We were given twin beds and you can't push them together. There were weird stains on the cushions on the bed. Breakfast was not very nice.
Staff were trying hard to be helpful but some of it got a bit patronising to be honest for example on the last night the guy on the desk told us not to go out too late as we had to get up for a flight.
There is a small pool but they have decided to put a cover over it. I'm sure this is good for families but I'd rather swim in the sun and sit under an umbrella.
Overall it was ok.

Really cannot find anything to criticise about this hotel. Location is perfect, about one block from the Opera House, and on the main shopping street. It is billed as a 3 star. That may be accurate given the rather old-fashioned look (which has it's own charm), which is not to say that the rooms are shabby. Hardwood floors, a gigantic double bed, cornices and decoration, including calming and atmospheric pale yellow tones. That said, the TV is an old (but totally functional) CRT unit, the desk information set is charmingly mixed in content, and the shower is over the bath. But to score a bath in a giant room for about $70 a night including breakfast is an absolute steal.
Reception was efficient and charming - no deposit charged at all, just pay on checkout.
My room had a small balcony overlooking the main street, but with double-glazing so pretty quiet.
There is a small swimming pool on the 8th floor which seemed not much used, but was quite adequate.
My only small complaint is the absence of much western style breakfast food. Fine if you are happy with an Asian breakfast, or a good selection of fruits and toast. Not so good if you need eggs to start your day. And if you do, just Google Annam Foodstore which is two blocks away and has a 1st floor cafe serving massive French breakfasts (and great lunch too).
Taxi from the airport is about $10. There are multiple ATM's of major banks within a block of the hotel.
A great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony if you want to avoid one of the interior viw rooms
