Graet to get the other side of things. Although the buildings are samey and the 'Imperialist Anerican' is faling foul of the heroic forces of uncle Ho it was worrththe hour here. The stuff outside is a major contribution to the experience here.

“Worth visiting if you are not in a hurry in HCM”
Reviewed 16 November 2013 via mobile

Located close to the zoo and botanic garden.
Housed on the first floor of a very original French colonial building.
Focus on Vietnamese history from pre-history to 1945.
Chronological lay-out, plus some rooms dedicated to specific themes: buddhism, sculptures.
Explanations in French and English, but very little explanation on the overall historical context and normally poor commentary on the individual displays.
Plan for 1 hour visit, we asked for guiding in English told not available.
Possibility of simple refreshment in internal court.
If you have time visit the pagoda located behind the museum, with a nice whew on the botanic garden.

We journeyed through this museum and enjoyed the learning experience of Vietnamese history. The 'mummy' exhibit was also very interesting and added something different to the experience.

“Some good art and a puppet show”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

This museum is housed in an old colonial building and holds first a memory room for H C Minh and then goes through the different centuries. Most interesting are the buddhist statues and also some art made from wood that are well preserved.
Next to the museum is the Saigon zoo.
In the history museum itself, there is a traditional water puppet show on offer that usual lasts about 20 minutes. We would say that you book this experience under "traditional folk art" and supporting local talent...

“One-sided opinions”
Reviewed 14 November 2013

The museum is full of war-crimes, atrocities committed by USA but I felt only one-sided view was emphasized against US although while talking to local citizens they appreciate USA more than other countries. I think the issues are Politically misguided.
