“A Near Perfect Hotel Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2011

I stayed here with my mom twice on our cross country tour of Vietnam. The Windsor Plaza is a modern and beautifully decorated hotel near the center of Ho Chi Minh City. It offers an excellent view of the city from it's rooftop bar/restaurant. It also has two other restaurants in the hotel. The hotel staff were friendly, knowledgeable and extremely accommodating with our needs. They also offer hourly shuttle service to District 1 in HCMC to Ben Thahn Market and to four associated restaurants. This allowed us free and safe access center of the city where we could walk to most of the major attractions and a ride back to the hotel until 11:00pm. Our room was clean and stylish and offered all of the modern conveniences. My only minor complaint is that I wish that they would have offered WIFI acces in the rooms. The do offer paid broadband connection in the rooms and paid WIFI in the public areas of the hotel though. Overall I was extremely pleased with the hotel and will definitely recommend it to other travellers.

Definitely not a 5 stars, even by Asian standards. I'd say a 4 stars and perhaps with vast improvements on the following, maybe, just maybe a 4.5 stars.

Room (executive 24th floor) - Definitely aged, but bed was comfy, room size, bath size was roomy. They used 1 huge square pillow which was too large to sleep on or hug on even for my 260lb size. The other pillow was too soft and too low for a proper neck posture.

Room service - ask for bucket of ice, arrives in average to slow timing.

Restaurant - buffet on 4th floor cafe was average. Nothing to shout about, nothing major to complaint too.

WIFI - There is no wireless in the rooms (only the public area). This was quite a turn-off considering a lot of small hotels has wifi everywhere in the room.

Executive lounge - Basic, has the bare minimum. Variety of the evening cocktails were very limited. And the greatest turn-off is the number of Chinese (I myself am a Chinese but I'm from Singapore) as its close to the Chinatown. There are a large number of Taiwanese, Mainland Chinese and Hong Kongers that found their way to the lounges. Not sure if the staff checked. They talk very loudly and the hotel staff made no effort to quiet them down, even after my feedback. So if you're used to the quiet, posh lounges in most part of Europe and America for you to relax after a long day, this is definitely NOT the lounge you'll want to be in.

Lounge staff - Average standard, 1 lady was particularly rude and uncompromising when my kid tried to bring a glass of milk out of the lounge. The guy who took care of my check-in insisted that the 1 way airport transfer was not included and only accepted after I asked him to check with reservation staff. And during check-out, the same guy made the same comments (about no complimentary transfer) again!

Concierge, Doormen, Bellboy - I have not seen a smile on any of them during my 4 nights stay, if I can recall.

Shuttle service to town - This is probably the only reason why people stayed here, other than to be in close proximity to Chinatown (remember the noise?) or any place in particular. The shuttle service was good, on time mostly and 1 driver was very courteous and polite.

An Dong plaza and An Dong market - Nothing much to buy for a man and boy. I'd say 90% of the goods are women's' clothing and accessories.

Room Tip: Plenty of choices elsewhere. Look at district 1.

I had booked the Hotel online and emailed them to ask for a reservation at their rooftop restaurant as it was my Birthday that particular night. When we arrived for check-in, they upgraded us to an executive room free of charge, many staff wished me happy birthday and then 2 lovely ladies arrived at our door with a birthday cake and card! We were given rights to the executive lounge with free wine and nibbles and had a long chat to one of the hostesses. The dinner at the restaurant was spectacular! The food was wonderful and the view over the city towards district 1 was beautiful. We had to checkout at 5:30am the next morning so missed breakfast but the front desk said they would arrange it if we wanted. We found the hotel to be fantastic in every way ... and enjoyed being away from district 1 (we stayed there earlier in the month) as we could admire it from afar.

On our first ever visit to Vietnam, we booked our hotel and tour through an agency in Singapore. Windsor Plaza offered a regular free shuttle to the city which was excellent.
The staff were very helpful and friendly and gave us the best possible assistance. The only draw back was not having wi-fi internet in the rooms and had to visit the business centre to purchase a pre paid card. Guest Relations Officer Miss Trinh was gracious with her pleasant service with a smile and helped us connect to the internet and gave us valuable tips and hints to make our tour of Saigon and stay at Windsor extremely delightful.

The Windsor Plaza Hotel is a hotel, shopping center, entertainment complex, and conference facility. The Winsdor Plaza is located in the very center of Ho Chi Minh City, mid-way between the business district (Saigon) and the historic Chinatown district (Cholon)

The hotel's 405 guest rooms begin on the ninth floor. Because there is no other building taller than nine stories in the immediate area, all rooms have unobstructed views of the city. Above the guest rooms is the fitness center, a rooftop swimming pool and a fine dining restaurant with a spectacular 360 degree view of all of Saigon.

Room Tip: We stayed in a deluxe double room which was great.

The Windsor Plaza hotel was everything it said it would be. Although we booked the cheapest style of room, they were spacious, spotlessly clean, new shampoo and towels were provided daily, and the breakfast was luxurious.
The private tour with a guide of the Can Gio mangrove forest booked by the lobby tour desk was the highlight of our entire vacation.
The pool was lovely to start the day or to come back to after a long hot day of touring.
We used the shuttle bus each day of our stay and it always ran on time and was a perfect way to get to old Saigon. The bustling neighborhood of the hotel was also fun to explore.

The hotel must be commended for going the extra mile by extending our check-out time until 4pm for no extra charge. Traveling with 3 children meant it allowed us a chance to leave our stuff and have a place to cool down and rest before our evening flight. We were able to enjoy our last day in Saigon to the fullest. A perfect finish to a fabulous holiday.

We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel with roof top pool and came across this one. Although the pool area is small there were not too many using the facility.
The hotel was good but a little impersonal and the reception was not overly welcoming, again the term would be impersonal.
However the rooms were a good size and the breakfast had a wide range of European and Asian food. The hotel also backs onto a local shopping arcade for that last minute shopping. There is a local street market at the back of the hotel which provides some local flavour. Not much else around the hotel couple of bars when you turn left and cross the road with cheaper beers. Not bad for watching HCMC manic traffic. Its a little way out from District 1 but there is a shuttle bus, but even then it is only about $4 for a taxi into the main tourist area.

Room Tip: Wach what is included in the roof top happy hour!

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback.
We appreciate especially the points we still can improve and we have shared this with our team already.
It is nice to read that you have enjoyed your stay with us and that you have explored the surrounding area of the hotel too.
Indeed, our complimentary shuttle going hourly to the city center as well as the attached shopping mall makes that very convenient for our guests, since we are located in the historic Cholon of Saigon.
Thank you very much once again and we are looking forward welcoming you back any time in the future.
