“A great experience!”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

The first time both my wife and I have visited Ho Chi Minh City, We booked the executive room for our six night stay at the Windsor Plaza Hotel. Definitely worth booking this room, The happy hour was a lovely touch with free drinks, some nice bites , a fast check in (appreciated after a long flight) and a very useful laundry service. There were three choices of breakfasts, the continental choice in the panoramic dining area was a lovely way to start the day.
I would suggest having the barbecue on the fourth floor, the food was very special.
A criticism I've read regarding the hotel is that its a little isolated, I disagree as the shuttle service was regular and very easy to use and the cholon walking tour is easy to follow five minutes walk from the hotel.
The staff were extremely helpful but I would like to make a special mention to the ladies who looked after us at the executive reception, Nothing was too much trouble, they all had a lovely manner about them showing a genuine interest in our trip.
Staff training is obviously a high priority for the hotel.

Lovely hotel. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Roof-top pool excellent. Very clean. Not too expensive. Only didn't give 5/5 for 3 reasons
1. Breakfast - although lots of choice, the bacon was always cold (and streaky!) and the toaster was more of a warmer
2. The bath had such steep sides that getting in and out was difficult
3. The roof-top bar closed at 10pm despite staff at reception it was open until 12
Would highly recommend.

We stayed at the Windsor Plaza for the last 4 of our 16 nights in Vietnam. When you walk in to the reception area there is definitely a wow factor - unfortunately, for us, that is as good as it got. the rooms don't have the same appeal and are just ok. Breakfast was disappointing unless you like Asian breakfast. To be fair, the reviews do say this hotel is more suited to Asian clientele and that is absolutely correct. if you go to breakfast at the same time as the majority of the Chinese guests, you can expect to queue for your eggs as there is only one egg station (which doesn't do poached). Compared to the other hotels we stayed in, choices for the western breakfast palette is limited.
The pool on the roof is small but adequate, though only having 6 sunbeds was an issue on a couple of days. what I found bizarre was that the rooftop bar didn't open until 1800, so you couldn't get a drink by the pool! One day we went down to the restaurant to get a beer at around 1600 and the girl told me that I could only get a can of beer and that I should try the 25th floor - i had to point out that it didn't open for another 2 hours which she seemed unaware of. on speaking to another staff member, they were very helpful and we got draft German beer and sat out in the sun. The cakes at the hotel were very nice.
the hotel is in sector 5, which is the Chinese sector, so you need to get a taxi or the hotel shuttle to sector 1. The shuttle was very good, the first stop is the night market where you can eat very cheaply and well. The last shuttle back is 2320 which is very handy.
Wifi was pretty poor at the hotel and was only free in public areas which is disappointing for a so called 5* hotel. Our friends had to ask for creamer in their room and the in room beverage choice again was poor for a 5*.
We wouldn't stay at the Windsor Plaza if in HCMC again.

We stayed at the Windsor Plaza for 3 nights during our 3 week honeymoon to Vietnam and Cambodia. And we were very impressed with the hotel.

We were upgraded to a room on floor 23 (executive floor) which was beautiful; the view was incredible! The hotel was very clean and maintained to an excellent standard. We were also brought a beautiful platter of chocolates and strawberries as a gift from the hotel for our honeymoon.

We ate in the Chinese restaurant on floor 5 one night and in the buffet restaurant on floor 4 on the other 2 nights and all 3 meals were excellent. The breakfast buffet each morning was also excellent; particularly the omelette station!

The customer service in general, help from the concierge, door staff etc was 5* and was welcomed after the hustle and bustle of the city!

We also enjoyed a drink each evening in the roof top bar which offered outsyanding views of the city.

Would definitely recommend :)

I traveled to HCM with friends in February of 2014. We were on the tail end of a multi-country, 3 week trip and thought it would be nice to stay somewhere nicer, where we could be pampered. :)

There are some very good attributes about the Windsor Plaza Hotel: (1) The complimentary foot massage is amazing (2) so are all of the spa services (3) the rooftop bar was wonderful and affords beautiful views of the city...we capped off many a night there. (4) the room itself was very clean and well kept

However, the hotel still has quite a few kinks to work out (1) The staff is wonderfully polite, but we received incorrect directions quite a few times from them. We also noticed, that they were uncomfortable giving recommendations. This came as a surprise, since many of the hostel-type places we had stayed were always so knowledgeable about where to go/what to see/where to eat. (2) The location is a little bit of a turn off. It's not really in the thick of things. This means it's less noisy, but it also means you have to take their free shuttle or a taxi to get to the action. (3) which brings me to their free shuttle. it's a nice service, to be sure, however, it takes you primarily to their sister restaurants. It would be nice if it had a few more stops, perhaps not at the Windsor affiliates but other points of interest. (4) There was LOUD construction going on in another room on our floor for a few hours in the late afternoon. We were unable to take a nap after a long bus ride from Cambodia.

All in all, it was just "okay". Sad to say, but some of the cheaper guest houses we stayed at during our SE Asia tour knocked this place out of the park in some areas.

Lovely hotel, with super friendly staff.
Slightly out of town, but price reflects that. Besides, there's a very efficient bus shuttle service which runs every hour, and takes about 20 mins to the city center. Crazy crazy place, but we loved the buzz of this city. Just watch out for the nutter moped riders!
Hotel has a very good roof top bar, and the prices are not that dear, but still nearly double that of the bars on the street (worth a visit though for the incredible view).
There is also a good gym, if that's your thing. There is also a sauna and steamroom in each changing room.
Small roof top pool, just down from the bar, is good too. Well kept, but with only half a dozen loungers to use. Though there was never many people up there when we used the pool.
Breakfast was a bit chaotic, but very good selection of food. Eggs/omelettes to order. Lovely Vietnamese coffee!
We used the hotel trip organiser next to reception to sort out our 2 trips to Chu Chi tunnels (private) and the Mekong river cruise (small group). Great value, and very well run in my opinion.
No more to say, very good hotel for the price. Deserves 5/5.

we stayed here on our first leg of our trip to Vietnam and Cambodia,we arrived 8am in the morning from Gatwick, arrived to welcome drinks, we were checked in to our room by 10am upgraded as it was our honeymoon, we got use of the skyline restaurant for our breakfast, spectacular views across the city, breakfafst was 1st class, staff very friendly, highly recommend upgrading, you get 4 pieces of washing done each day, happy hour between 5 and 7pm with free drinks and food, use of the top restaurant with personel service for breakfast.all staff very accommodating, this hotel is in district 5 which is the Chinese quarter, so about 10mins ina cab from centre but it only cost about £3 for a taxi in and they do have a free shuttle bus too.great beer and barbeque restaurant next door too. spa facilities were excellent too and the roof top swimming pool only small but a blessing after you've been out sightseeing all day.

Room Tip: pay the extra for an upgrade and choose a higher floor level
