“Clean room and delicious breakfast”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

My friends and I stayed there last June 2014. They are very accommodating. We arrived at Ho Chi Minh at past 1AM. So we need a shuttle to pick us up. It's a good thing that they offer airport pickup. Our room was really clean. The hotel is in good location. Really close to everything. It is close to where the Buses park to go to different places. There are a lot of restaurants too. Most importantly, it is close to Ben Thanh Market, the best place to shop. The buffet breakfast in the hotel was so delicious. They offer Vietnamese and Western choices. I like their french toast, fried noodles, fried spring roll, and kebab. It was a little difficult to communicate with the staff in the buffet area. They don't speak English, so you have to point out in a picture what kind of eggs or sandwich you like. Hue, the girl in the front desk who’s in charge of the tours was very helpful. She knows English well. I've got two concerns though, the bathroom and the lobby. The bathroom gets a little flooded whenever we bathe. We didn’t call their attention anymore since we were mostly out of the hotel during the day. We just wiped it with the towels. As for the main lobby, the manager at night and the staff sleeps in the main lobby. And they turn off the aircon while their sleeping. So it doesn't smell that good every morning in the lobby. We were also charged with a higher amount because there was lack of communication between Hue and the manager at night. Hue gave us a discount during our email conversation. But the manager said that he didn't know anything about that. But all in all, we had a pleasant stay here. Definitely recommending this place to everyone. :)

We stayed here for two nights in Oct 2013 and thought it was great. Our room was really nice, near top floor. Bathroom really new and clean; bed very comfy; rooms serviced daily; breakfast included and great choice of foods Asian and Western. Good location with lots happening out the front door yet room was very quiet. Good bars & restaurants nearby. Cost was around AUD45 per night which in my opinion was great value... Definitely would recommend this place...

Free breakfast and comfortable beds and clean room. Couldn't complain. Staff fairly helpful and location good enough. Certainly good enough for the price. Just don't get a massage there the guys are a bit handsy...
Separate shower/toilet always nice

OK, my first stay in February, 2013 was great. The second stay in July of 2013, the customer service had declined dramatically but the quality of the room (the Executive deluxe) was still good.

OK, well, as they say, perhaps the third time's a charm??

Not at The Dragon Palace!

This place has gone downhill so quickly, it's stunning!

My recent experience began when I had booked two EXECUTIVE DELUXE ROOMS - I was entertaining a potential client from Europe and I really didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars per night, so I thought that the executive deluxe rooms would work well. They were large, decently-furnished and fairly impressive!

Well, I booked on June 6th, and, knowing how important this potential client would be to our company if we get them, I had gone ahead and booked on Agoda and IMMEDIATELY AFTER i booked, 48 hours before we arrived, I wanted NOTHING to go wrong, so I had sent an E-Mail:

"Hello Quy Lam!

I have just booked two Executive Deluxe rooms through Agoda at The Dragon Palace for THREE nights - check-in Sunday June 8th and check out Wednesday June 11th under the name - XXXXXXXX X XXXXX

The Agoda booking I.D. number is XXXXXXXXXX

So, I HAVE PRE-paid for these rooms. CAN YOU CONFIRM that we WILL be receiving these Executive Deluxe rooms for our stay and that we will NOT be sent to the other hotel that you own next door?

MANY thanks/Xin Cam On,"

Soooo, of course as explained in so many reviews before this one, they gave out one of our rooms to another customer (although the belligerent manager and the front desk clerk apparently got their lies confused with one saying that they got a booking fore that room, then contacted Agoda on Friday Morning June 6th to remove that room from Agoda, but that AGODA DID NOT ACT on that request until the next day Saturday the 7th!! And I had booked my rooms on Agoda on Friday NIGHT the 6th)!

Nice....trying to blame Agoda!

The desk clerk stated that "a young traveler was stranded due to his flight being delayed until 11:00PM this evening, and he had nowhere to stay"

Soooo......which excuse are you going to go with???

They offered me $10USD, and I stated "Errmm....that is thee actual price difference between the small room that you are trying to throw me into and the executive deluxe room"!!

"Yes....??"

"Well, this REALLY made a mess out of our trip, and it is not OUR fault, it is not AGODA'S fault, so I think you should compensate me for over-booking and dis-honouring my room reservation! And this ten bucks ONLY covers the PRICE DIFFERENCE in the rooms!"

"OK, here, we give you voucher for ride back to Airport"

"OK, fine, that is acceptable - $10 difference in cash and a taxi voucher back to the airport for embarrassing me in front of a potential client...all right....not happy, but fine....I'll deal with it"

"I sorry??"

"I sorry WHAT?"

"No - you take taxi voucher OR you take ten dollar cash - no both"

By THIS point, I thought that I was in a Kafka novel.....

Long story short, the manager raised his voice and became VERY belligerent and threatened to give us all our money back and cancel the entire reservation (GREAT after we JUST got off of a long flight, were tired, and did NOT feel like running around looking for a new hotel to stay at).....I HAD seen another review where the manager (probably the same man) had threatened to call the Canh Sat (police) on one couple who were also having problems with their confirmed reservations. So we did NOT have any choice - we were stuck there!!

I THOUGHT that MAYBE the rooms themselves would be as nice as they were last two trips to this hotel - NOPE!

Desks and shelves that are now chipped, scratched and starting to look dingy and show their age! OH - and on the FIRST NIGHT, when I had no choice but to accept the smaller room than what I had reserved (room 902), SOMETHING in the bathroom was leaking and had flooded the entire bathroom (as is ALSO listed on several previous reviews)....it was fun having to wash your feet each time you went into and out of the bathroom!!

At the end of the stay, I had stated to the front desk that we would be checking out this afternoon at 1:45PM, since our flight was at 4:00PM! The desk clerk said no, she would give us until 1:00PM ONLY.

I looked her dead in the eyes:

"Excuse me - You just told us three days ago that you gave OUR room that we had PRE-PAID to some stranded traveler and now you're not going to extend a similar but smaller courtesy to US??? That is a double-standard and THAT is B******T!!" and I stormed off up to my room.

Then, we got a call announcing that we re to leave the hotel immediately!! We were getting kicked out!!!

Basically - Avoid this place....it is a bait-and-switch scam where they book you into the Dragon Palace, THEN find another person who reserves your room at a HIGHER PRICE, then gives YOUR room to them and sends you next door to their other hotel, that is sooooooo filthy and disgusting, I personally would not keep my pet cockroaches in there!!!

I stayed in the Dragon Palace early June 2014 for one night. My room was too pricey for what I got In addition a terrible breakfast with an even more terrible staff service.

The best is the location next to bus services, bars and restaurants in District 1.

Friendly travel desk, but highly overpriced services.

It is unfortunate that some visitors have had very bad experience at this hotel, but we had a wonderful stay here. We got an executive deluxe room for a low price (at another hotel, we got only a tiny room for the same price). The room was huge. The buffet breakfast had ample choices. It is within walking distance to most city sights. The only problem was the traffic noise, but HCM is a noisy city after all.

Despite being greeted into a dated-looking building and lobby (complete with an elevator that closes verrry deliberately and dings like it's almost out of battery), the rooms actually look stylish and updated with smooth-working commodities like Wi-Fi, Cable, hot water, air conditioning, and lighting.

The room is spacious enough to not make me feel claustrophobic, and clean (new sheets, squeaky tub and white is white, clean smelling), bed is comfortably welcoming after a long day of walking. Services working as promised with the air conditioning blasting the right amount of cool that welcomed us for traveling on summery April!

The breakfast buffet is decent enough and can fill you up for the active day ahead—they serve western with local breakfast, though drinks are just instant juice, tea, coffee is brewed though. Tip: Take a baguette sandwich to go as a snack later, just ask them to make one without mayonnaise so it'll last longer. Also request for a room at a high floor so it's nearer the buffet area. The elevator stops at 8th floor so you'll have to walk up to 10th (got a 9th floor room).

Don't expect much from the common places like elevator, stairs, and lobby—these areas are cramped. But in a city like this, you probably shouldn't be spending so much time inside so it might not matter anyway.

Great location—if you are a walker, everything is just 5-15 minutes away. Step outside the building and you can eat at a local restaurant that's open till morning to accommodate zombie folks arriving at 2 am. During the day, you won't go hungry with all the food carts popping up right outside and family stores serving snacks and iced drinks. And of course how can we forget all those restaurants to choose from since you are at the heart of District 1 after all. The area is relatively safe at night because the restaurant outside almost always have diners even in the wee morning hours.

A nice well-maintained park is right across the street if you feel noise getting to you.

Booked two nights for the deluxe room at 50% off thanks to Agora flash sale so this is was a good value stay for me. I was a bit wary to book with the mixed reviews regarding booking, but all was smooth-sailing during our stay.

Room Tip: Request for a room at a high floor so it's nearer the breakfast buffet area/10th floor. The elev...
