“Comfortable stay”

This is a review of the 3 star Tan Son Nhat
Been staying here regularly over the last couple of months. The rooms are very spacious and clean. Free wifi (ok speed) . The staff is very courteous. Taxi's readily available and and the hotel is close to the airport (3 km). Stayed in quite a few hotels - but this one had the hardest pillow I have ever used! The rooms facing towards to road can be a bit noisy ( the windows do not cut out all traffic noise ) . The rooms facing towards the back do not have a window!!

Breakfast spread is more of Vietnamese dishes the same is with the Ala Carte menu for other meals. So if you want non-Vietnamese food choices are very limited.

Room Tip: Decide if you want a room with windows (and the traffic noise comes free) and take a room facing the...

this is a 5 star hotel, near the airport of Tan Son Nhat International, HCMC, Vietnam.
The hotel is very luxurious, comfortable, and very good service. Staff here are very polite, professional and dedicated customer service.

Room Tip: advance booking to get better advice

Than Son Nhat Saigon Hotel

We, a Belgian couple in the 50’s used to frequent traveling, booked this 5 stars hotel in Saigon to be close to the airport for an early departure in the morning.
What a disaster for a western couple hoping to find what goes with 5 stars. Where as the outside infrastructure of this hotel which opened only 16 months ago looks great, and the rooms and spacious and clean, there is not much good to say.

The hotel is clearly empty, this time it was only frequented by two buses of asian tourists and ourselves. Hence, 3 of the 4 restaurants are closed and one can only eat in a much too big restaurant at the lobby. A fantastic choice a la carte is proposed when you enter the restaurant, but on ordering time, nothing seems to be available in the kitchen excepts “today’s suggestion”. The breakfast in the morning is mainly Asiatic.

A welcome drink is offered at arrival time in the same restaurant. That is finally a basic apple or orange juice which you can get on any flight, we had much better welcome drinks during our home stays with the Vietnamese population the two weeks before.

Even though the place is quite recent, carpets and seats already seem to be old and used, and need to be cleaned; and the menus are torn and overused and need to be replaced.

A fantastic bar and a fanstastic restaurant is announced on the 15th floor, that happened to be all open air, overwarm, with one server of everything, and… empty.

Smoking is allowed in the rooms and several tourist smoke in their rooms leaving their room door open. Hence there was a very bad smell on the level where we were sleeping (12th floor), mainly because of smoke. Inside the room itself it was fine.

Friendly service when it is about doing what is standard minimal procedure like wakeup calls or booking a taxi. Asking for anything which needs preparation (a cocktail, a tea, searching town info…) was too much and took ages to react.

We did not try the swimming pool which is nice and clean nor the massage center which was not open either during our stay.

If one needs just a bed close to the airport for 100 euro this is fine, but do not expect much more.

Room Tip: Attention aux chambres dans lequels il y a eu des fumeurs. Vérifiez sur place avant d'accepter...

The pictures and the ad on this hotel, really looks good... and yes, they are true to the reality of this hotel. However, for a 5 star??? hotel... this was a huge disapointment to me. I stayed two nights to visit an exhibition and conference, and chose this hotel, since it is close to the airport... and have some NICE pictures on booking.

Well... these are my thoughts:

POSITIVE POINTS:
Cheap...
I would say staff in this hotel are very friendly. Room is big, but lacks a lot more comfort for my liking. Internet is free. As it was only two nights, and as I was leaving early next morning, it is perfect for quick access to the Airport. As taxi's are cheap... it is also good for visiting the center of town.

As much as I think about more positive points... I just cannot find anything else.

NEGATIVE POINTS:
Even though it is a relatively "new" hotel, I felt that it already needed improvements, epsecially in the decor and comfort in the room. I can call it "minimalistic" and "cold", with no character, since I did not feel "welcome" in the room. Not to be expected in a 5 star hotel. Price is cheap, and SO IS THE FEEING in the room. And worse... it smells terrible.

The bar on the last floor has a smashing view, but it also feels OLD, smells bad and was simply dead.

This hotel needs new management, since they really have no clue about what a 5 star hotel should be.

The smell in the room was intense. Every room is a smoking room???

The restaurant is pathetic, I must say. As I arrived late, I did not go out, and ventured into the hotel restaurant. Although cheap... the food was honestly - SURPRISINGLY BAD. Totally bland, no taste, too much waiting time and arrived REALLY cold.

I don't want to be unfair... but it is REALLY difficult to find reasons to come back... which I will not.

SUMMING UP:
On exhibition days, hotels are usually full. This one was empty... and management should really understand why. There is huge potential in this hotel, but with 25% positive things, and 75% negative... it becomes clear to me WHY the hotel was empty - especially with a conference in town.

ME... no... I will not return to this hotel, and that is a fact.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room, with a view. Make sure you ask for a NON SMELLING ROOM...

Checked in for one night as we had a very early departure from Saigon airport (which is a pain to get through so you need lots of time). Thought a fair price and only about a $4 cab ride was a good choice for a "5-star' property.

Maybe it will be, one day. Nice room, nice reception, even a nice pool. But check in staff were awful (insisting on charging me $10 for my wife's breakfast at check in even though we were leaving at 3:35AM so couldn't eat!). The place boasts 5 restaurants and 3 bars. Only one was functional - and we were only guests! (meal was good though....). The place felt like the Marie Celeste and staff followed us around, including Security, all day.

On checking out, a Security person walked into our room without knocking and stated to check inventory of stuff like pillows (!!) to radio to the Front Desk as we checked out. Was pretty bad as my wife was alone in room, in bathroom at the time and got the shock of her life.

The shame is it has potential if/when they train staff, finish furnishing the place and generally get in line with normal hotel practice. As it is, check in with full knowledge of its rather weird vibe!

Room Tip: Buy a suite - I suspect although a year old, ours had never been used!

There appear to be three hotels called Tan Son Nhat close to Saigon (HCM) airport. One is a five star hotel that I cannot comment on as we didn't stay there. In fact we didn't even know it existed until we encountered a very helpful member of their staff at the airport, who helped us understand where we should go.

The other two hotels are three star establishments, about 50 metres apart, with a conference building between them. I booked through Agoda, and it turned out that we were in the right-hand hotel; but this only became apparent after the taxi dropped us at the left-hand hotel, who knew nothing about our booking. Yes, the three hotels each have separate receptions, who seem not to share information!

The (superior) room was clean and comfortable, with good sized beds and a large bathroom. And only £38 for one night, including breakfast. But bring ear plugs with you - the rooms at the front of the hotel face onto a busy road that has noisy traffic all night, and no double glazing. Breakfast was OK, and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately the transfer we requested through Agoda didn't turn up, so we had to make our own way from the airport. Bit of a pain, but we probably saved USD25!

So if you go for the three star version, insist on a rear facing room and grab a cab at the airport.

Tan Son Nhat Hotel (the original building, not the tower) was a very comfortable, reasonably priced and professionally managed hotel located quite close to the HCM City airport. The staff is friendly but professional. The price was competitive about $ 35 for single occupancy and $ 50 for double. This price included breakfast and free broadband wifi. The rooms are relatively small but comfortable. For an additional $ 10 for double occupancy one can get a much larger room, which is far more comfy. The restaurant has a really huge spread for breakfast including Vietnamese cuisine as well as the usual egg, cereals, breads, desserts choices. For the main meals the choice is limited but quite tasty. It's location is also attractive for frequent travelers as the airport is just 20 minutes away. I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms 402, 409, 411 on the 1st floor are big and comfortable, though about $ 10 more (double occupan...
