“One of the worst massages I have”
Reviewed 18 November 2012 via mobile

Apparently there are a number of Ngoc Anh outlets but the one we were recommended was terrible and did not meet our expectations. The place was filthy and the masseurs were talking loudly among themselves when we were given the treatment. They were not consistent and my masseur actually forgot to massage my right arm. Horrible experience. It is cheap but Not recommended if you are looking for a serious and relaxing massage after a hard day of sight seeing.

“best authentic local spa for therapy massage in hcmc and possibly vietnam”
Reviewed 23 September 2012

Why you have to go ?

If you are looking for an authentic experience, this is it ...look no further. Ngoc Anh is the highly rated spa patronised by locals, do not expect a sanitised tourist oriented facility. If you want a spa set up exclusively for tourists, then go to Yume or Yuan(which are pretty good as well) on Le Thanh Ton St or many other spas along Dong Khoi St.
As an analogy, you can get pho at Pho 2000 or Pho 24, or experience the real McCoy at Pho Hoa on Pasteur. Which will you prefer ? It is up to you.
This is the best experience and highlight of my trips to HCMC. It is better than the pure traditional thai massage. In fact this is one of the best kept secrets in HCMC, and good enough reason to justify a visit and many return visits.

How do you get there ?

Located at 93 Nguyen Binh Khiem in D1, near the Botanical Gardens. There are 4 branches listed
on their website ngocanh.com, and this is the main location. Take a taxi there, it is directly opposite the Somerset Apartments, so you cant miss it. Taxi fare within D1 will not exceed 40 to 80K dong($4) depending on where you stay. TripAdvisor has not revised the address to date.

There is branch at 36/38 Nguyen Cu Trinh (in the Pham Ngu Lao area) has private rooms and may be more suitable if you want a more pampered experience. Do check if this branch is still open before you visit, since I last visited in January 2012. I have visited both the branches, the massage is equally good and the prices are the same. The Nguyen Cu Trinh branch is modern and very clean, and is a 10 minute walk which is very convenient if you are staying around Bui Vien or Pham Ngu Lao.

What type of massage is available ?

5 types of massage and 3 combinations ie Japanese shiatsu, traditional thai, herbal, aroma and hot black stone is available in the menu(english) by the well trained and certified therapists. If you are confused, dont worry. Just select the body massage option
because you will receive a hybrid of all including the black stone. You have to experience this if you have a sports injury. Even if you do not, you will feel all the stress disappearing from your body.
Do check the website ngocanhspa.com and youtube link before going. You can select a 3 star Shiatsu therapist for advanced massage if you desire. View the wall of certificates from Japan Shiatsu College and Bangkok's Wat Po Traditional Medical School.
Based on my experience, the minimum standard is good and the therapists are always consistent even if you do not select on your first visit.

What do you have to pay ?

It is so cheap and so good, really do not hesitate. I normally take the 90 minute body massage
option which costs 260K($13) as of the latest Sept 2011 pricelist. Tipping is expected at a rate of only 100K per hour, but of course it is really up to you. This is just a few dollars to you and me but may mean something to the therapist. So try to be generous and reward them for making your trip to HCMC memorable. You can write down the tip on the voucher which will be given to you after themassage, and you pay at the reception altogether.

What is the procedure ?

After enjoying the hot tea and sugared ginger at the reception, proceed to take a shower and change. Put your valuables in the cloth bag provided and keep this with you, even though a locker is provided. Sauna facilities are foc. You will be escorted to a open room upstairs, with individual curtains(unless private rooms are available, depending on location). Relax and enjoy the 90 minute experience. The therapist will enquire if the strength is adequate for you ... okaaay ? Respond accordingly to your needs, depending on the pain(enjoyment level) you can endure.

Get dressed and pay at the reception. Enjoy another cup of hot tea and ginger before you leave.
Write a report and share your experience with us especially if you find a better place.

“Triple A Spa is the best value for money”
Reviewed 22 July 2011

If you're looking for a normal body massage for a good price, visit the AAA Spa (or Triple A Spa, as it is also called). Between 9am and 4pm you get a 1 hour full body massage plus an extra half hour foot massage for free! Now, I'm not very much into foot massage, so I've asked if they would give me a half hour extra body massage instead and they just agreed, without making problem about it.

I've been staying in Ho Chi Minh City for about three months now and visited many massage salons, but this one is definitely the best value for money: 120000 vnd for one hour and a half (as I've mentioned, between 9am and 4pm - otherwise it's 120000 vnd for one hour, which is still very cheap!). The girls are really friendly and do their 'work' with feeling, making you feel really relaxed while they're taking care of your body. I usually give the girls 100000 dong tip, but I'm sure they leave it up to you to decide how much you think they're is worth to you...

The owner, a young girl, is really cute and she (and most of her staff) speaks pretty good English - which, again, can't be said about most of the other massage places...

Hope this was of help to you people looking for a good massage for only a few dollars.
By the way, the address is: 133 Bui Vien, district 1 - it's at the end of a small alley (on the right, not the one on the left, which is more expensive and, although it might be good also, I haven't tried it up 'till now - if I do, I'll let you know too).
