We stayed in Hue during the floods in November 2011 and were stuck in the hotel for a few days. But it was not a problem at all. We had a room for 10$ which was really clean, cable TV and fast wi-fi. But the nicest part of the place is their staff, they took care of us and were extremely nice and friendly - noodle soup for breakfast and the coffee was amazing as well :) We were actually sorry to leave when we did. If ever back in Hue know where to stay.

Our stay here was marked by the unusual ordinariness of everything. Besides the Bamboo theme & green colour scheme, there were no street fights, black outs, rats, pimps, thieving workers or leaking roofs. It makes it almost boring like an uneventful holiday but ordinary is probably good if we avoided everything else.

Although it is priced in the budget category, the hotel isnt a backpacker hostel nor is it bare bones, dont expect your bed to be made for $15 USD. The rate includes a simple breakfast but cheap & better street food options are available just outside. The reception girl was softly spoken & didn’t come across as shady, she was able to assist with our inquiries. The reception desk has a stocked fridge with several brands of beers & soft drinks available. Wireless was free & fast on my iPhone & there are 2 free computers for guests to use.

For 300,000 VND or $15 USD, we were given a clean room with a double & king single bed for 3 people. Room 5 on the first floor had high ceilings, large wooden framed windows/shutters, aircon, fan, heater, mini fridge, hot water, built-in wardrobe, clean bathroom & very friendly hotel staff. I joked about the 34cm TV being small, 10 mins later 2 girls came up carrying their 68cm TV from the reception room, I must be very charming. Our room faced the street so we had the shared balcony just outside, perfect for smokers.

Located on the main D Hung Vuong road connecting with the bridge closest to the royal citadel, the hotel is generally well located to everything else & within a 15 min stroll to lots of restaurants. The hotel is not located anywhere near dodgy red light districts or karaoke bars rather it is in & amongst shoe, clothing & snack stores. We didnt have any bookings & walked in off the street. As is normal in VN we were asked to leave our passports at the desk for their security.

It was refreshing staying in a hotel with some sort of theme such as this as the millions of other faceless cheap hotels everywhere else all seem to lack this small charming feature.

The staff were friendly and negotiated from US$10 to US$7 for a single room with fan and a big bathroom. The fridge wasn't particularly effective but this wasn't a problem on a cold, rainy day in Hue! The room was clean and spacious with tv and wardrobe, and the lift (elevator) was a blessing. It's on the main street but wasn't noisy and was handy to get to the main sites.

We spent one night at the Bamboo Hotel in Hue on our 3 week trip through Vietnam. Although our room was windowless and somewhat cramped, at least it was clean, tidy with air conditioning and decent bathroom.

After a couple of weeks travelling through Vietnam, we’d often appreciate hotels for what we consider simple things, like here at the Bamboo Hotel there is a lift/elevator. Having a lift to carry you and your luggage up to the floor of your room is something to enjoy! At some of the hotels we had to carry our bags up 2, 3, 4 floors in the tropical heat and humidity.

Our small twin room consisted of 2 x single beds, wall mounted tv, bar fridge stocked and wardrobe. The limited space meant the fridge door couldn’t be opened very far as one of the beds was in the way. With a bit of room relocating we managed to find enough space for an arm to squeeze into the fridge. Cooling was by way of air conditioning and wall fan, which worked efficiently in keeping the room cool. The tv screened mainly static and all visible channels were local Vietnamese.

The large bathroom wasted valuable room space with a separate reception area between it and the bedroom. As the bedroom itself was cramped, I thought this bathroom “reception” area could have been better used housing the wardrobe and bar fridge instead of an open space with onlhy coat hooks around the wall. The bathroom itself is fine, clean and tidy containing hand basin, toilet and bath with shower.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and a limited menu of eggs, omelette and bread didn’t make for anything spectacular. I ordered omelette with bread for breakfast and was presented with 2 fried eggs and bread. My travelling companion ordered the fried eggs and these looked suspiciously like my omelette!

All in all, the Bamboo Hotel was a fine place to lay one’s head for the night. Although our travel and accommodation was all part of an inclusive 3 week tour, I’m not sure of the room rate here, but would think if it was in the US$10-15 per night it would be good value.
