“More than expectation!”

I booked a family room with 2 double beds on the 9 fl. Room was modern, clean, free wifi in room, breakfast for choice.
You just take 5m walking to shopping center and about 10m to the beach. With that price, this hotel is more than my expectation. Strongly recommend!

We enjoyed our stay here, rooms/bathroom was clean and modern looking. Both rooms we stayed in were nice. The first was very small but this didn't bother us, only the noise if the canteen in the morning was a bit annoying. This got booked up on 3rd night so we went to a superior room which we loved even more, spacious and huge windows to a great view of the city, and quiet being on the top floor! Staff very friendly and try to help you when they can. Breakfast is a list of choices which is nice but a choice of one may not fill every body up. Showers took a while to heat up but when they did it was great.

The hotel was clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff was very helpful in printing our boarding passes, arranging taxis and recommending restaurants. The beach was a 10 minute walk. The breakfast was ok.

After walking out of a dump, I was a "walk in" to the Tristar and could not have been happier. My stay was 3 nights in a bright Scandinavian style deluxe double on 8th floor. Everything worked fine and the extensive breakfast was excellent. All one has to dois point to whatever they wanted on the English menu -- the list was extensive, including an omelette with crisp bacon -- and it was delivered quickly. I especially liked that one could look into the clean, proper kitchen area.

The large shower was uber modern with constant hot water and cleaning staff had the room spiffed up every day. Staff at reception were most helpful to the point on the day I departed they arranged a private car to the airport -- which is not in town as the Google map might mislead -- but rather is 20 or so miles away. The car was half the price a taxi would have cost.

The only negative was when a large roach came in under the door one night and after a short chase scurried back into the hall. Next morning I informed management who immediately had a vector control company in play. For what it's worth, roaches are not unusual in Vietnam, so this was not off putting for me.

As for transportation there was always a taxi outside, so getting around was no problem at all. For instance the cost for a ride down to the very popular beachside Louisanne Restaurant (highly recommended) was $2.

When making a reservation I suggest that one ask for a room that has a large balcony/terrace. Those are pretty popular, so an early reservation is in order.

Room Tip: Get a deluxe double on floors 6 or 7. No extra charge for the large terrace.

Stayed here three nights. Room decent and clean. Modern design, cheap and cheerful as though has been stocked up from Ikea. First impressions good. Safe in room and nice modern bathroom with good pressure in the shower.

However experienced a few calamities whilst there:

Laundry - went missing..... we were told a power cut meant it had been delayed. Then we were told it would be an hour. The next day (so been gone two nights) it arrived. The upside was it was cheap (20,000 dong a kilo), the downside, a pair of socks that didn't belong to us were included and our friends also staying in the hotel had a couple of items go missing.

AC - on the first night, the English speaking channels stopped working then the AC went too. Woke up in a sweat box. This also meant the lifts weren't working - being on the 9th floor, this wasn't great. Our friends called reception to ask twice and once were told they turned the AC off at night to save electricity (!!!!!) and the second time that it was just a power cut for some of the electricity. We were out all day and it was working when we got back however and stayed on. Minor inconvenience but no doubt beyond the hotels control.

Breakfast -reminiscent of being in an episode of Fawlty Towers. Absolute mayhem. Whilst we appreciate we are in Vietnam and its not their job to speak English, we are in their country after all, the menu was in English suggesting a basic understanding. This was not the case! The waitress (whilst very smiley) was unable to understand any English at all, meaning the poor chef was essential running in to take our orders and do the cooking! At one point, my boyfriend had to go into the kitchen and literally get what he wanted himself. Fortunately, the chef was very friendly about it all. Drinks would come after food and you have to pay if you want a hot drink and a juice (I know it's a two star, but that seemed a bit tight?). This meant when we ordered both, the waitress would write it down, a manger would come back and re-read it to us, then five minutes later come back and tell us we could only have one and we would say we were happy to pay for any extras. By this time, the chef inevitably would have come out to check our food order too! It was a long process. Tables were covered in dirty plates and it just seemed as though no one knew what was going on.

The music - as another reviewer mentioned, the music! We asked and were told it was to do with people dying in a local hospital? I see from the other reviewer, they were told something along the same lines buy to do with a funeral home. Whilst obviously respecting their local customs, just be aware this started at 7am on two of the mornings we were there so a lie in was not an option.

Housekeeping - quite frankly, my dog could have made the bed better! We started to make our own in the end as they "folded" the duvet at the end of the bed in a pile, shoved the cushions under the bedside cabinets and the replacement toiletries were literally left on the side in a pile.

We needed a late check out (we had two friends staying in another room and only one room was free so we shared) til 6pm. This was easily arranged for a reasonable extra $6 - though we had to argue to get four towels for the four of us as were initially told they only had two towels spare in the whole place!

Overall, clean hotel in a good location to the beach. Taxis to the main restaurant area were cheap so easily accessible. The niggles we had didn't make it an easy experience at times, but l think the old saying, you get what you pay for rings true here!

We stayed here for three nights (2nd-5th May) and, to be honest, we were disappointed. The pictures and reviews on TripAdvisor made it look like a good option for us - modern, affordable and close to all the action.

For £12/night it's good value, but it's a least a 20 minute walk to all the restaurants (luckily only five minutes walk to the beach). A lot of their customer service needs to be improved (only one of their receptionists was actually helpful, although we didn't catch her name): Otherwise we were left to struggle with our bulky luggage up the steep reception steps; not told where our room was or how to get to it after checking-in; and weren't given any information on the local area when we asked for a map.

The standard double room (number 205) we had was small with only a tiny bathroom window for natural light. The shower flooded the bathroom floor whenever we used it. And there was no safe in our room. Breakfast is limited (one item from the menu only).

In summary, if you go expecting a nice looking hostel you won't be disappointed. But if you go expecting affordable luxury you WILL be disappointed, as we were.

Newish hotel that's about 10 minutes to the beach. We took the smaller standard room but an extra $5 would get you a bigger room with a safe. As a new hotel, I didn't find any maintenance issues. But, housekeeping never replaced the complimentary coffee/tea (even though we told reception) and they did not offer free water bottles each day.
Breakfast was quick and provided quite a few items for us to select. Laundry was cheap and the wifi was the best so far in all my travels in Asia.
Overall, I wish my manager from our Hanoi or Hue hotel could visit here and train them to be better. At the moment it just meets my needs but could be so much more personal and attractive to the tourist. Oh, there is a funeral home next door that played annoying loud music for the first 2 days from early morning to late at night. First time I have ever come across this and may upset those who want to sleep in.
