“Very good except two issues~~~~~~~~~~~”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

Room is excellent, the bathroom is big as well. The breakfast was good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Special credits and compliments offer to: Shirley and Stanley, they are excellent~~~~~~

There are three issues need to be improved:

Please amend the free WIFI system, not only available in the lobby. All rooms should access to the Free WIFI as well.

There are only 3 floors, whenever there was any function/event in the cafe, it did affect the sleep to all the rooms up-stair. Please make sure the function/event, it will finish before the mid-night. Otherwise, guests will not able to sleep well due to the music/noise in the cafe.

No parking available for the hotel guests.

Used the hotel for a couple of days between flights. It is 15 minutes drive from the airport and situated in an odd location just of the main transit road. However the rooms are clean, comfortable, spacious and more than met our needs. There is a small pool (ideal for kids), a giid health spa & gym while the restaurant is basic but the food is excellent. Transport is required for any local activities and the airport.
Perfect for a brief stay over or if you are in transit & the staff were faultless.

First opinion was, where i am? In the middle of what? Room was very nice and when we get out and found the small shopping mall near there and many restaurants, it looked a lot better. Luckily we got some taxfree booze from Labuan, because you can not get any, anywhere in Brunei.
Then we get a taxi from reception and left to city, and made a deal that driver pick up at 3pm. No taxis at all. So it took 1h to get a new taxi to get hotel. Then we asked reception to call us taxi for next morning, and the driver who forgot us was there in the next morning, smiling and said sorry about it.:) People are very polite and happy and helpfull in Brunei.
This hotel situation is ok, if you are not going to visit city very often, you will need to take a taxi, and there are not plenty of them.
City's riverfront was terrible dirty, maybe cause a lot of people lives on water and throw all trash to sea??
Hotel pool is not any plus, it is in very narrow place between two buildings.

Room Tip: Booking sell us pool view, but we see only gymview.

This Hotel is excellent , not a five star hotel by any means , but it is clean , reasonably quiet and the staff are very helpful and pleasant. But the best thing is that it is central to everywhere , especially if like me you love to walk and explore . If you book through Royal Brunei you will be assured of an Airport pick - up which is very important because it can be quite pricey in Brunei.

Room Tip: Insist on a superior room , and do not be afraid to complain.

We booked the hotel online in advance. Agoda said there is a limit of one (1) under 12 year old per room but we e-mailed the hotel and it was not a problem to bring two under 12 year olds into a double room with one extra bed. We asked for a non-smoking room and a room with a kingsize, not two singles in our reservation.

The check in was fast and friendly. The first impression was the hotel is clean and in good condition. But at the moment we entered the lift the cigarette smell hit us. The corridor was stuffy and so was the room. Without a doubt the room was sprayed with some scent to hide the stuffy air and cigarette smell. That's right, the room was not a non-smoking but only with the sign "No smoking in bed". And it had two singles, not a kingsize, which was a bit problem with two children one of whom sleeping in extra bed and the other in existing bed with parents. Otherwise the room was okay, clean and well prepared for us (but only with two towels and two glasses and two of everything even it was paid for three). The view was nothing to mention, only the back alley of the hotel. Room size was good.

Single beds were pretty good in size, but still not enough for two person. That was the first thing to disturb a good night sleep. And it was hard as rock. Absolutely a pain if you're used to have some comfort and support of your mattress and it had some weird ironings going round which pulled nasty when laying near the edge. The extra bed was even harder if possible.

The breakfast was for three but our 4 year old had it for free. It was okay, but not good. Local food, toast, some cerials and watery juice, coffee and tea. If it was not included in the room price we would have not paid for it.

The pool seemed to be a bit dirty but we entered it anyway. It is located, a bit unconviniently, on the side of the hotel with an entrance by the next building going up and down. The water was cold and pool too deep for children to swim and enjoy. Even for a grown up it was more like swimming as a normal child woman needs to stand on toes to breath air and not to sip the water.

If you don't have your own transport the location may be a bit too much as it is some kilometres from the city at the end of a smaller road. With a car we had no problems.

The first impression of the Palm Garden Hotel was that it was in the middle of nowhere. Reception staff didn't really know much and couldn't really supply us with any information about getting around Brunei although they did give us a map. Deciding to explore the area here is a reasonable shopping centre next door and plenty of places to eat locally. The river passes close to the hotel and from Q Lap about 10mins walk you can catch a water taxi to the city for a couple of dollars. Our taxi driver was brilliant and for $10 each took us for a tour to the probiscus monkeys up the river and a tour of the water village including a look through his house and meeting his family. He also gave us plenty of ideas about activities to do in Brunei including a trip to the Empire Hotel for high tea.
Palm Garden Hotel was comfortable and the staff were friendly and tried to help even though they didn't know much. Breakfast was basic and mainly Asian. Unfortunately for us the pool was out of service, no wifi in the rooms and the wifi in the foyer is weak. Brunei generally does not seem to be set up for tourism but if you do your homework there is still a lot to do.
