“Real Brunei experience”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

This hotel is quite small and a little old. The room was very clean and the bathroom was also very clean, however, everything is quite old-looking. I think this is a good place for someone who really wants to experience a real south-east asian hotel, rather than stay in somewhere more western. Our room had a view of a field and a small forest. We could see local houses (with corrugated iron roofs and lots of coconut and banana trees). In the morning, we were woken up by the roosters calling in the morning - which is just beautiful. The service here is also great and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast was also quite delicious. This hotel has free shuttle bus service to the airport which was extremely useful. One thing here, though: you're not allowed to cook in their rooms, so there's not even a kettle in there to boil water. But there's a little convenient store in the hotel which sells bottled water, and the hotel staff are happy to boil some water for you if you need to make some instant noodles!

Budget mid-range option for BSB, which has notoriously high lodging prices (in comparison to the rest of Borneo). Weighed staying here and a newer place farther out from the city center, and I'm glad I chose the Jubilee. First off, the hotel's style could best be described as "dated": tired, homely furnishings and appliances that are not chic or even modern (the old, square TV didn't even have a remote).

However, everything works (despite their looks), often better than brand new "boutique" hotels that cost many times the price: the aircon stays on when you leave the room without needing a card, the shower is hot with good pressure, and the refrigerator actually kept ice from melting in the main compartment. Additionally, the place may be a bit of an eyesore, but it is spotlessly clean. Add in the fact that it is located in as central a location as you can get in BSB (not a walking-friendly town) - the Morning Market, Kampong Ayer, and Saifuddien Mosque - and you have a good choice in budget/mid-range accommodation. There is a mini-market on the premises, as well as a Thai restaurant.

Also, the hotel offers free airport transfers (or transfers to whatever mode of transport you are using - bus station, etc.), as well as a free city tour. Finally, the service from the front desk was fantastic. I would definitely stay here again on business or traveling. Good value for money: paid USD $67 all-in on Agoda.

I got an on-time, good English speaking driver pick me up from the airport. This is very good since the taxi fare in Brunei is a bit expensive. When I arrived in the hotel, I get to check-in right away. The hallways and the room looks a bit creepy and old (probably because of the lights and fixtures). The room is not that big but comfortable enough for an overnight stay. It has TV with few and repating channels, good airconditioning and clean bathroom.

The staff helped me get cheaper city tour by getting a local to tour me around the city. I was travelling alone and there's not a lot of tour operators around that's why this is very helpful.

The location of the hotel is near to city landmarks and main bus station. They packed my breakfest for me since I will be leaving early in my last day. Overall, I'm satisfied with service I got from this hotel.

This hotel has an edge for budget-conscious travellers: free transfer from the airport. Arrange this with the hotel in advance by e-mail. When you emerge from the (small) arrivals terminal the hotel's driver will be waiting for you. He is very amiable. At the end of your stay you will have a free transfer back to the airport. (Arrange this the day before.) When you consider how expensive taxis are in Bandar Brunei, the free airport transfers are most welcome and make this hotel probably the best (or least worst) budget option for the city.

The hotel also offers a free 45-minute tour of Brunei Town. Make sure you take the staff up on this offer. They are, or appear to be, reluctant to act on the offer once you get to the hotel, but press a bit and it will be arranged. It's a good way of getting the lay of the land — free of charge.

The location of the hotel is good: just a short walk to the centre of town. You won't find anywhere so centrally situated for less. It's more or less next to the main market.

Then there is the useful minimart on the ground floor. Snag is that it opens late: 10am.

The room was so-so. Clapped-out air-conditioning unit, but it worked. The bathroom was just about OK: bath itself not clean enough to actually have a bath, but standing up for a shower was fine.

The breakfast (included in the price) was rather good. The coffee, in particular, was drinkable. Orange juice was extra, though.

The front-of-house staff were courteous, making it not unpleasant to stay here.

Relative to hotels in, say, Singapore, KL or Bangkok, Jubilee Hotel is not very good; it's a bit run-down, if the truth be told. But when you factor in the free airport transfers and the free tour, it is fair value relative to other hotels in Brunei.

Stayed there for 3 nights. The staff are lovely however they do tend to give out some wrong information on websites.

- you only get free 45 mins tour around city. NO stopping.
- they charge rip off prices to take you places. The local bus are really acceptable and you don't need to wait for long time!
- they don't keep their words! their favorite saying " I will find out for you" and then do nothing until you remind them.

However, I did enjoy my stay and the staff are trying hard- from what I think is they are just under trained/informed to work in hospility and tourism department. The room are really clean, their housekeepers clean my room regularly! :-)

If I were to visit Brunei again, I would stay here again!

We were upgraded to a deluxe room, but it was a bit old and tired, not flash. We were pleased with the friendly service, the free airport transfer and the included breakfast. Location is good, we walked to downtown and the mosque.

Room Tip: See the mosque at night

Hi Stayed at this hotel with my girlfriend in FEB 2011 on the token stop over in Brunei as we flew with the country's airline.

We chose this hotel simply due to the FREE/Included Airport pick up and drop off service as Taxis in the country are hard to come by and are pretty expensive by Asian standards.
The airport pick up worked out well and there was a gentleman standing there with our names written up on the board - I'm glad they waited for us also as clearing the dodgy single customs line took way to long.

We kind of knew what to expect at the hotel so we were not too worried once we got there and checked in. The reception staff were okay and the hotel kind of looks like an old hospital inside. The rooms are dated and pretty cheesy. Our room smelt a little damp also & I suppose this is due to the humidity, we just left the window open to air it out and I cleaned the clogged up AC filter myself so it would actually work haha.

We went for a walk at night into the 'City' for a quick look around and a couple of pics but realised nothing much happens in a city after 7pm on SAT night when there are no pubs or bars!

The next day brekky was unexciting and our Airport drop off was good again.

Would I go back? Not sure, the price was OKAY (compared to others) but maybe I would try another place if they also organised free transfers.

Room Tip: Clean you own AC filter for better results :-)
