Good
Room is clean, spacious. Very comfy with warm blankets, bed. Toilet amenities fully provided. Nice rainforest shower.
Food is delicious esp beef burger and fries. Purple dragonfruit martini is a must to order. During their happy hr, cost USD3, value for money. By the way, they tend to ignore the happy hour and charged full, check bill before paying.
Bad
No latch or lock for the room door. Realized how vulnerable the guests would be since the door can just be opened by the key card. Realization came when a staff came into my room to check on the TV, without even knocking, he just came in with his key card. Even though I was expecting him, I was shocked too.
Airport transfer was a total disaster and fuming mad issue. We asked the hotel to arrange a car for us to the airport the day before, with stated price from the rack USD10 and agreed to the time of 4 pm. The next day, staff called and asked if possible to change to 3.30 pm as traffic will not be good at 4 pm, we agreed. Upon checking out, we made payment and the staff asked for USD11. I was puzzled, and he replied saying reason being the hotel arranged a better transport for us. Fine. At 3.30 pm, waiting. 3.40 pm, staff came and told us to wait another 10 mins. 4 pm, waiting and saw a vehicle parked outside the hotel, dropping 2 guests who just came back from city tour. Then driver came running in, tapping his watch and said, "car is waiting" No sorry but just telling us car is waiting???!!! what about the 30 mins that we had waited? Angrily hopping onto the vehicle, midway, he just turned off the A/C and wind down the windows. Friend then told him we wanted A/C and he told us the A/C was spoilt. Seriously!!! Obviously we were angry about the late pick-up and now, no A/C? And he didn't have the courtesy to apologize and inform us but just switch it off.
Thou, room is one of the best, but the attitude provided by the staffs ended my trip a real impression of a bad one.

I have been in this hotel several times over the last couple of years and tried out a few rooms in the hotel.

You have 2 types of rooms: larger ones facing the quay/street with plenty of natural lights and a small balcony and smaller rooms at the back with no windows but 2 vertical strips of semi-transparent glass panes that does let in some lights during the day. The rooms facing the quay are more expensive and actually quite noisy at time. The ones is the back however is quieter.

The bed is comfortable but somehow the bed sheet cover is always short here which makes your feet tends to touch directly on the bed. I guess the hotel expects guests to sleep on the cover but I find that a bit strange.

The bathroom is decently appointed however the shampoo and shower gel are in ceramic containers that sometimes does not contain enough portions if you are the type who takes 2-3 showers a day. A quick call to the front-desk does fix that though.

This hotel is managed by the same group as handle the FCC a few blocks away. Over the years, the services are still as good but amenities has gone down somewhat. The last time that I was visiting, there were no slippers.

I am happy that the free breakfast that comes with the room is still as plenty and good as usual. Stick with the western choice and you will be happy and stay away from the Char kway teow.

The location is great right outside the is probably the nicest place in Phnom Penh to have a stroll. The river does make the area cooler than in town. There are plenty restaurants around the corner that caters to all types of pockets. There is a local market 2 blocks at the back of the restaurant that could be a nice discovery walk in the early morning. Plenty of local establishments just a few blocks further for the adventurous minds and stomach. At night, the blocks in the back can turn into a mini red-lights district so family travelers must be aware. As long as you stay on the main street on the quay, all is good.

Room Tip: Get a back room if you prefer quietness and its cheaper too.

Unfortunately my other half and I really did not get on well with Phnom Penh (or Cambodia) as we'd spent 2 months in SE Asia and had probably overdone it. However, The Quay really made our last few days bearable!

We originally booked three nights in a standard double room. The room itself was nicely decorated with a lovely bathroom, was very clean, although did not have any natural light. After staying one night the staff rang our room and asked us if we wanted to move rooms. We said that as long as we didn't pay any extra then we would move. The staff had obviously over booked and we got bumped up to a suite for the other two nights!

The suite was really great... Big bed, huge balcony, nice tv with DVD player, comfy lounge chairs, a desk and a mini fridge, and a huge bathroom with a tub and rain shower! It was really comfortable. Breakfast was also amazing and very varied, which you could eat downstairs in the restaurant area or you could order in your room as long as you handed your breakfast card to the reception the night before. The eggs florentine were amazing, and it was so nice to have such a varied menu for breakfast that my other half and I had something different every morning.

As for the hotel itself - small but very well-kept and had a roof top bar which was nice. However the pool is very small, I don't even think you could call it a pool really, more like a fishless pond ...?

The Cambodian members of staff were a little rude and didn't really care... But I got this impression from most people in Phnom Penh anyway. They were a little difficult when we first arrived because I hadn't printed out my booking number, even though my name was on the system. They also tried to get us to pay for an upgrade when we first arrived, which we declined (obviously they knew at the time that they had overbooked and tried to get us to move and make money at the same time!). Nevertheless I did phone reception for a few things (the bubblebath had run out) and they were happy to help, they also booked a taxi for us to go to the airport.

Location is very good - by the river surrounded by shops and restaurants so plenty of choices for places to eat. You can get a tuk-tuk/taxi to most places very easily.

On the whole, it was a nice place to stay!

The Quay Hotel is located in front of the river its a great location to watch life go by on the street. Rooms were very clean with all mod cons and the bathrooms are very stylish. Downstairs in the restaurant breakfast comes with the rooms and there's a very wide choice. The restaurant is a cool place to have lunch or dinner with a great menu for both food and wines. I had the best fish and chips ever! There is a roof terrace which is a cool place to hang out. Staff are efficient and helpful and I would definitely go back.

We stayed in one of the back rooms for three nights. The rooms are windows-less and slightly overpriced for 60 dollars a night by Cambodian standards.

The design of the rooms is very slick and the cleanliness of the rooms was impeccable. Storage space for clothes is limited, though.

Safety for the back rooms is questionable: The service directory stated that a map with the safety exits would be in the wardrobe, but there was none. In case of a fire the window-less rooms would be death traps and unlikely to be legal by Western safety standards.

The service needs to be improved:
- The reception refused to assist us with booking a Mekong cruise (even the official PP tourism page advises to book through your hotel).
- One morning they brought us the wrong breakfast order and the waitress apparently expected us the accept the wrong order. Only after insisting that we're vegetarian and not interested in bacon she brought the correct food.

My second stay at the Quay Hotel, certainly ideally located for business in Phnom Penh, previously my company had always put me up in the casino but this hotel is located right on the river, has good food and the rooms are much more stylish. If you are on business in Phnom Penh and want a business hotel, close to all of the action and in the heart of the city with a more personal service. I now recommend The Quay to all of my friends jetting into Phnom Penh.
