I stayed in the Royal Inn in Phnom Penh for a night before I flew back home. I really liked the place and I think it’s a great value for that money. I really enjoyed the big room and the great bathroom with a bathtub. Since I did south east asia with my backpack and stayed in the cheapest accomodations this place felt pretty luxurios.

The hotel was Ok at best but the location is not the best.To get to the Waterfront and the main hub of the city requires hiring a Tuc Tuc as would not advise walking, especially at night. The breakfast is basic but the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. There are also some nice restaurants nearby but the area is slightly seedy.

My room was windowless and fairly airless, I was forced to have aircon on most of the time. Shower screen was broken and bathroom was not as clean as it should be. Staff were very friendly, but did not always have detailed information needed for tours etc. Breakfast was good with a western or asian option. Location was an easy tuk tuk ride to anywhere you wanted to be.

Ended up staying about a week on and off. If you're able to get these rooms at about 20$ (they sometimes have promotions) like I did, then they are a pretty good deal. If you pay the full price (about double), then it is definitely not worth it because its location far from ideal. To reach the riverside requires a very good 45 minutes or more by walk (about 30 minutes to the palace), and after doing it once you will most likely always use a motorbike or tuk-tuk (a must at night time). If you've never been to Cambodia, that may be a good thing, so practice your bargaining skills (getting to the riverside should be no more than 1$ by moto and 2$ by tuk-tuk). Unfortunately, if you want to return to your room at any time during the day, this adds to the total room cost rather quickly (for example, if you factor in 2 return trips to the room's budget, you could easily add 10$ to another room that is better located and does not require transport all the time).

The rooms are nothing special (I had standard, superior and deluxe and besides at one point or another and besides minor differences in size, the only obvious difference was that the deluxe had a coffee heater. Funnily enough, it was the one I liked the least because the room has windows on the street and it can be pretty noise), but the beds are comfy and they are way above average if you compare them to the numerous mouldy rooms of hotels that should have been destroyed long ago all along the riverside. They are relatively clean and good size, but look nothing like the pictures (hats off to that guy), and you can tell that it slowly but surely going downhill with rusty showers, baths and old blankets and towels. I never found the bathrobe or slippers, but survived nevertheless.

As the previous reviewer mentioned, the surrounding area which can be quite seedy with its numerous massage parlours, day and night, but it did not affect my stay in any way. The same can be said about most areas and hotels anyway (some of them being much worse). The main problem, as I mentioned, is the distance from anything worthwhile.

Breakfast is the usual boring eggs and bad bread with very little jam/butter, but a big bonus for good Americanos. I wish they'd offer cheaper rooms with no breakfast, but that is one of my very common arguments. Come on people, when do you ever get a great breakfast at a guesthouse?

Staff, especially the breakfast staff, was super friendly and rooms were cleaned daily.

Overall, I would recommend for a those on a medium-budget with a couple of night.

P.S. Oh, and the Internet sucked, so I'm glad I didn't really need to use it during my stay. They really need to do something about that, it seems to work perfectly everywhere else is the city!

Room Tip: While nice, the deluxe rooms are the noisiest because they face the main street.

This is a fairly clean, basic hotel. Decor is jaded - holes in bed covers, bathroom need re-grouting at least, lamps fixing, but comfortable enough. The roof top is pleasant, but not open late. Breakfast very basic -western breakfast was just eggs and bread, not even a fruit plate. Staff mostly very friendly, and most service excellent, but caught one receptionist who was slow to respond watching blue films on the computer, completely visible from the hall leading to the elevator (yes really, right at the front desk), and one morning, although breakfast was supposed to be served from 6 and they knew people were eating early to get buses, the restaurant was completely dark and a girl had to go and get so Elbe before she could order.

The room was clean, the staff were super friendly, including the tuk tuk drivers.
However there I run out of positives.
It's in an awful area and in one evening - going to my room, the rooftop bar and back to my room I met 2 men with partners they'd clearly just picked upon the street. It made me feel really uncomfortable and I chose not to continue my stay.
