“A little haven of beauty”
Reviewed 20 June 2014 via mobile

When we arrived at The 252 and one of the staff members pulled back the large gate from the hustle from the busy streets. I thought wow. This looks super

We were taken through to reception and greeted with a welcome drink whilst we checked in.
We were handed our room key and shown to our room. We had the downstairs room next to the bar area. At first I thought oh no this could be noisy. How wrong was I. I opened the door to a very spacious clean and cooled room.
I was very happy with the size of the bathroom and the water pressure.

The first morning we had breakfast and headed out. We arrived back mid afternoon and found it very easy to get a little booth by the pool.
We also ate in there in the evening and had an array of freshly cooked food which was hard to fault.

The pool was very clean at all times. One of the cleanest I have seen.
All the staff were amazing and very tentative to your needs.

Overall the hotel was the best I have stopped in, in Cambodia and at a very affordable price to all buffet or high end

I have already recommended you to others.

Keep up the good work. Definitely would go back again

We stayed at the 252 for one night at the end of our visit to Cambodia. Our experience was different than most other reviews.

We had booked the standard room and arrived late. At check in, we were assigned room 4 whose door is right in the lobby (as is the door for room 1.) I've stayed in many many hotels around the world and this is the first time I see a hotel with guestroom doors opening to the lobby.

We asked if there were any other rooms available and were told that the only other one was a deluxe room (on the 2nd floor.) We then suggested that be uprated at no cost and the receptionist said she can't do that.

After a few minutes we asked her to call the manager and let us talk to her. She did and I spoke to Nicole on the phone. I explained to her that we have a 26 hour journey back home the next day and needed to sleep well. She said she can't offer a free upgrade! I then said "so you prefer to leave the room empty and have an unhappy guest" and she "you don't know the room will be empty. " Mind you, this conversation happened at around 8:30pm! Please note that we didn't care to be in a deluxe room. All we wanted was a room with less potential noise (especially in the morning) and more privacy.

The room itself was large and nicely decorated in a modern fashion. There was a window that opened to the back of the hotel and was covered with a light color curtain. There was a lot of light coming into the room through the side of the curtain.

The water pressure in the shower was great, however the shower was hard to operate as unless you held its head in your hands, it's water splashing wiuld get the whole bathroom and towels wet.

Instead of a blanket, there was only a sheet on the bed. (I wonder if this was done to get the guests to turn off the AC and use the ceiling fan instead!) When I asked the front desk for a blanket,  I was given two individual-sized blankets, the size of those found on airplanes.

When we asked the front desk for restaurant suggestions (twice) the only place they recommended was La Table Khmere which according to another review belongs to the owners.

We had dinner at the hotel restaurant. The food was mediocre and pricey compared to other restaurants in Cambodia that offered much higher quality food. The only vegetarian entrée was fried noodles with vegetables which was really greasy.

We did have a couple of good encountes here: they allowed us to check out at 1pm instead of the standard 12pm time, for which we're grateful, and a front desk lady reserved the taxi to the airport for us.

Overall, I think this hotel is more concerned about profits than guest satisfaction and I would highly advise against it.  I can't help but wonder what kind of attitude a place like this instigates among the local people!

Dear Sasan,
Please let me comment on your review. From the email correspondence we had with you it is clear that we informed you about our availabilities and where the rooms are located. We offered you a Deluxe room on the second floor but you choose to keep the Standard room on the ground floor. Then, as soon as you checked-in, you requested a free upgrade because you did not like the room. On the phone I tried to explain you that all our rooms have the same size and amenities, the only difference being the view and the balcony, and that the noise from the front desk won’t be an issue as our employees are well aware that our guests are on holiday and do not want to be disturbed in the morning, no matter on which floor they are. Unfortunately you did not let me speak out. Nevertheless, I am happy to see that the noise was not an issue and that you appreciated that you could keep the room until you had to head off to the airport.

With regard to the bedding, the reason why we only have sheets on the beds is simply because we live in a hot country and blankets are not really needed for the night (even if the AC is turned on).

With regard to the restaurant recommendation, our front desk officer told you to check out La Table Khmère because it was already quite late and most of the restaurants serving local food close early. Now you decided to stay in and eat at the hotel. You might have overseen that we have fresh or fried spring rolls, different kind of salads and soups, as well as a few Western dishes that are vegetarian. Also, as all of our food is freshly prepared, there is no issue to order a vegetarian version of most of our dishes. Being a vegetarian myself, the cooks are used to special requests, one just has to ask our staff.

To conclude that we are profit oriented only might be prejudiced by the fact that you did not get a free upgrade. Be reassured that this is not the case, we live in Cambodia because we love the country and the people here. But we simply might be different from other places as we do not promote the support we give to individuals and NGOs here in Cambodia because we believe that this is our personal choice.

Kind regards,
Nicole

A wonderful 2 day stay at the 252 where we were treated with great attention and the wonderful cheerful spirit of Cambodia. The rooms were wonderful, poolside and bar relaxing and highly pleasing to the eye. It also happened to be my birthday and the staff very happily worked with my wife in running out of the hotel, buying a cake and keeping it all a surprise from me. The staff were also very happy to arrange an extension to our check-out as we had a later flight. Would most definitely stay at The 252 again as this has indeed been a wonderful experience! 5 STARS!

Couldn't have asked for more, always helpful at the front desk and the bar, nothing was too much. Felt Very safe and away from the noise whilst still in a perfect location. Big bed, massive room. Tours organized through the front desk always delivered. Would highly recommend to all.

The moment we checked in and realised that my husband had left his passport on a desk in Phnom Penh airport we were in a panic, the hotel manager and receptionist were on hand to reassure us and take control, they got straight on the phone to a taxi driver requesting that he check with the desk for our passport, he did, it was there, he picked it up for us and kept it safe until the next time he was dropping off at the 252 when he passed it to reception (how great is that!). We found the service extremely good, all of the staff friendly and helpful. The bar staff funny & charming.

The rooms are basic in terms of decoration however they have everything you need, they’re comfortable and spotlessly clean, good aircon and good tv reception. My only comment would be that there is no mirror in the bedroom so (ladies) when you’re getting ready you have to do it in the bathroom which is warmer and if you’ve had a shower it is a bit steamy, a small mirror on a stand on the desk in the bedroom would be great.

The food isnice, reasonably priced (cheap actually) as were the drinks. Breakfast was good, nice eggs! The hotel is well located, with most things a short tuk tuk drive away. Tuk Tuks!! What an experience, we used Nin, he’s one of the guys who appears to be associated with the hotel, he wears a straw hat. He was the best driver and tour guide for us, a very lovely man who made sure we were safe and looked after for the entire stay in Phon Penh.

The pool area is lovely and the pool is exceptionally clean, the whole place is exceptionally clean. There isn’t much space to sunbath by the pool as the setup is to provide shade unless you’re in the water, this didn’t matter to us it’s too hot in the direct sun anyway.

Without a doubt good value for money, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. They also provided one of the best massages throughout our trip to Cambodia and Vietnam.

Room Tip: We had a room on the top floor, it was pretty quiet... I don't think you can completly get away...
