“the best hotel in Phnom Penh!”
Reviewed 3 March 2011

The Golden House international Hotel is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and very well-managed. The owners maintain Western standards, and take a personal, active interest in ensuring that your stay is comfortable and enjoyable.

My husband and I stayed there in February/March 2011. It is a gorgeous boutique hotel half a block from the riverside.

The rooms are amazingly clean and furnished in a modern style with really comfortable beds! There was a large flat screen TV (international cable channels CNN, BBC, HBO and a host of other movie channels etc.) The A/C is of fantastic quality ie new and nice and quiet. Free & very fast wifi and mini-fridge (bottled water is provided everyday) a digital safe to lock up your valuables and a modern, exceedingly clean bathroom. In the neighborhood there are quite a lot of bars and restaurants the rooms, however, are quiet and we weren’t kept awake or disturbed atall.

The staff, including the owner and his wife, are really friendly and provide a great personal service: Never rude, never too busy to help and provide information.
This hotel is ideally located in my opinion. It is a half block from the riverside.

The hotel café has great coffee and the breakfast variety is good and quality of food high. There is also a great flat screen apple mac for guests to use down in the café area. The full menu (room service too) has some real tasty, good quaility food but a (very) short walk away there are many quality places to eat.

Within walking distance are the National museum, the silver pagoda and Royal Palace and a very short tuk tuk ride will get you to Central Market and Wat Phnom.

Safety/Security is excellent. There is a safe in each room, and the doors have a double locking system. There is a security guard who is on duty every evening outside and night staff on duty every night inside. Incase you have your own (as we had) or rented vehicle the ground floor of the entire building is a secure parking area.

The hotel has a bookcase in the lobby filled with travel books on Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as local maps, maps of Siem Reap and Sihounoukville and guides to local attractions.

The owner and his staff are VERY knowledgable about Phnom Penh and Cambodia as a whole. Be sure to ask if you have a question on destinations and obtaining visas for neighbouring countries etc.

Would I stay there again? Definitely. I cannot recommend it highly enough. We have been travelling for many many years and I have to say this is probably one of the best hotels we have stayed in in terms of facilities and value for money.

We arrived in Phnom Phen on a busy weekend with no reservation. Wanting to be next to the riverside and walking distance from the main sights, we ended up at the Hotel Indochine II. They did not have a twin room with airco, so the receptionist then told us about her sister's place around the corner. When I heard her sister's hotel was the Golden House, I was excited to see it. In preparation for our trip, I had done a lot of research and it was in my top 5 for the area. The hotel ended up being even better than I expected! The hotel has been done up to a high levels, is extremely clean and the room had a modern, boutique-like feel.
One reviewer mentioned the fact that there were people and children in the reception area. We had the same when we were there and found it rather charming. They are the owners and their family and their presence always made you feel at home. The staff overall were super friendly and helpful.
We were also lucky enough to have arrived during the Chinese New Year and as the owners have Chinese heritage, we were treated to an amazing parade right on the doorstep.

Not a bad place, some noise from nearby bars , some hassle from Moto drivers outside , food is edible -just.
Nowhere is far from anywhere in PP so location is OK, airport transfer is overpriced, reception staff can be rude, the rooms are small but the worst thing is the children running wild in the lobby and they seem to accompany the staff evreywhere.
Oh and if you are there in the rainy season the street outside gets flooded regularly and can be knee deep so you can get stranded in the hotel.
Contrary to what previous reviews say it is not the best place in PP by a long way, I visit 4 times a year and only tried because of the " great" reviews.

I moved here after a bad experience at another nearby guesthouse and was delighted. It is a gorgeous boutique hotel, well worth the money, lovely rooms, a lift, nice bathrooms. So much better than anything else in the area yet far cheaper than most hotels. Hotel standard at guesthouse price. I cannot recommend highly enough.

....value and comfort in Phnom Penh. I make weekly visits to PP each month and always enjoy my stay at GHI which is a quiet oasis in a boisterous girlie-bar neighborhood conveniently located half a block off the riverside. Rooms are clean, modern, bright and cheerful with flat-screen TV's, free & very fast wifi, mini-frig, safe-box, comfortable beds, etc. The staff, including the owner and his wife, are extremely friendly and provide absolute personal service with a smile. They will always go the extra mile for you, whether it be to obtain a cell phone or recommend a dentist! It is an extraordinary value for PP.

A little pricier than the low-cost hotels we looked at, we thought it was worth it, given the friendly owner and the nicely designed rooms. It was also quiet, although in the neighborhood there are a lot of girlie bars that we could hear, but didn't keep us awake. Despite the prevalence of bars, the neighborhood seemed safe. Being very close to the river and near the open market makes the location interesting to walk around. It's about a half-hour walk from the Tuol Sleng museum, but within minutes of good restaurants. Other transport was easy with the help of the owner and staff, so arranging a taxi to the airport was no problem, even at a very early hour. The only thing we'd like added would be a shower curtain, but other than that the bathrooms were very nice. We'd definitely stay there again.

I rated this hotel as "Excellent" overall. I researched hotels by location and wanted to stay around Street 136. The Golden House is even better in person than what you see on their website. The hotel and the room was immaculately clean. There is a safe in the room which is a plus. The bathroom has a tub and shower and was beautiful. I slept like a baby in the firm but comfortablr bed, and of course there was a flat screen TV with cable and awesome A/C.
The hotel is family run and the staff caters to you for anything that you could want or need.
There is so much to see in the city that no location is perfect, but this is the location that I wanted. The hotel is just off the riverfront with access to plenty of bars, restaurants, and shopping.
Sure, you might find a cheaper hotel, but you get what you pay for......or should I say that you don't get what you don't pay for!
This hotel was only a fraction of the cost that you would pay in the States. I will visit Cambodia again..........and I will stay at Golden House again!
