“the only place to stay in Phnom Penh”

La maison d'ambre is the place to stay in Phnom Penh. The rooms are spacious (bigger than our own apartment!) a boutique hotel service, and great food and cocktails on the rooftop. What more do you need. Ok there is no pool, but the raffles (far more expensive and smaller rooms) allows guests to use their facilities for 20USD a day. Massages can be arrange in the privacy od your won room which makes rolling upstairs for a nightcap so much easier! We stayed at the raffles in Siem reap and the service is nowhere near as attentive as La maison d'Ambre, here you really feel like part of the family! Check out the countryside house by the Mekong, where we enjoyed a delicious khmer meal and a relaxing dip in the pool!
In my opinion there is nothing that comes close to this hotel in Phnom Penh.. in terms of value, space and a designer feel

They even have their own branded tuktuk that can take you anywhere you want

Room Tip: all the rooms have different themes

Perfect to recover from a intensive day visiting Phnom Penh. Just before the sun rise, step on the roof of the hotel to access the Fifth Element restaurant! The right place for a chill out in large sofa with a view on the Wat Phnom and part of the city sky line. White wine of the home is just perfect they also have a nice cocktails list... Same pleasure for the diner, in this elegant place, with a special mention for the duck breast and the fish amok! You can really feel this place is running by very refined and smart peoples.

This is my second stay at La maison D'ambre, and it only gets better!
This time we came with our 9 month old daughter, and this time i can fully appreciate the self contained apartment. We stayed in Casablanca ( we specifically asked for this room as it was booked last time!) A lovely cot was set up in the room for our arrival along with a little t-shirt for her to wear .. it's the little touches that make all the difference
Our daughter loved crawling around the spacious living area and was welcomed in the 5th floor bar , morning, day and night! it really does feel like a home from home.. Babysitters where provided at very short notice, and they even called us to tell us all was ok
I wanted to write a second review for this hotel as it really is the prefect place to stay when in Phnom Penh, as a couple or with kids.. and great value for money
oh and dont forget to bring an extra suitcase for a trip to Romyda Keth's 'Ambre' boutique! I hear a children's shop will be opening too
We will definitely be back! again and again :)

Room Tip: we loved Casablanca

Designed and built by the Cambodian clothing designer, Romyda Keth Ambre, and her French husband, the "rooms" in this intimate, small, boutique hotel are actually cutting edge, upscale, modern, designer apartments, with kitchen, sitting / living room and bedrooms. Each suite is entirely different, and named according to inspiration ie Midnight in Manhattan, Casablance, Mogambo... The suites are large enough for entertaining, groups or families, albeit, sophisticated ones. And beautiful. Ambre said that the artifacts in each room are from their travels around the world, and some of the pieces are drop dead magnificent. Large bathrooms with large showers, separate toilet room.

The restaurant is on the rooftop, and provides open air dining, with a bar on one side, and the restaurant on the other. The bar draws an attractive, eclectic group of fashionable locals in the evenings, reflecting the Cambodian owner and her French husband's social network, as well as the attractiveness of the site.

For those who care, I think there were several TVs in the suite , and internet access.

The location is good, a few blocks from the riverside, in walking distance to lots of shops, though you'd want to take a tuk tuk to the Museum. It is in the middle of town, but I slept well.

The owners are often on site, and go the distance to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. The staff is helpful, though many have limited English language skills. You'll fare a little better with French, but it was no real problem .

Only downside; 1-lighting in the bathroom is limited - can't see well in the mirrors, 2-kept stubbing my toe on a marble threshold to the bathroom (figure it was there to protect the gorgeous hardwood floors if someone let the shower overflow, so I put the bathmat over it and voila, no more issue).

Room Tip: Look at the pictures on the website and go with the one that makes your heart thump a bit louder! No...

We stayed 5 nights as a family at La Maison D'Ambre and it was an amazing stay. Our room, Monsoon Wedding was based on India. It was like a luxury apartment, very large and spacious, with a small kitchen if we decided to stay, or have a private dinner in our room. Our room was extremely well decorated with silver and purple colours, and very stylish. There were 10 rooms in total, each named after a movie, and decorated with a specific country theme. The service was outstanding! The staff took care of everything we needed, making us feel at home, without being disturbing. We met the very kind owners, a French and Cambodian couple on the rooftop, where the restaurant and bar were situated. The rooftop, providing a very nice view over Phnom Penh, and some cool air, was a great place to chill and have a drink, or enjoy dinner. The food at the restaurant was delicious. We ate French and Cambodian food which were both very tasty. The location was great, close to the market and the Royal Palace. Everything was perfect, and i would definitely return here for my next stay in Phnom Penh. I highly recommend it to anyone, and I think it is one of the best hotels we have stayed at.

We stayed 3 nights at La Maison d’Ambre last week-end. Don’t look further, this is definitely the place to stay for a dream in Phnom Penh, a pearl, a haven in this vibrant city (but noisy).

La Maison d’Ambre is a reminder of the luxury clothes shop Ambre of Romyda Reth, which fame is henceforth international.

You will be immediately seduced by the decoration of the hotel, which looks more like a large guest house. Each of the 10 apartments possesses a particular decoration, all equipped with a kitchenette and a living room, 1 or 2 bedrooms depending on size. We had room Casablanca, with shades of white and cameo of blues, with lots of small details and objects deco. The other rooms lack charm either, Midnight in Paris, Hanabi, Mogambo ...

For the restaurant, a surprise since it is astonishing in the 5th floor rooftop, overlooking the city and provides a very pleasant evening breeze after a very hot day. And if you want only to have a drink, go to the other side in the relaxation seats with half-egg retro seats. The decoration combines metal, fuchsia and orange colors.

But this is not the real value of this hotel. I would like to emphasize especially the welcome the staff and owners reserved us. Very pleasant and always willing to make our stay pleasant, without being pushy.
Owners, he French and she Cambodian, make you feel like at home (and it is also the feeling I had upon returning to the hotel after a day of mop in the city).

And for the palate, a big thanks to the “Chef” who regaled us with Cambodian dishes (best Amok fish dish in town) but also French (rillettes, espadon a la provencale,…). This is fine, refined and tasty.

The hotel is located rather in the northern part of PP, between the Central Market and the Riverside. You can easily find many restaurants, bars and shops in the surrounding streets. If you want to get a little further, take a tuk-tuk on the corner for 2 or 3 USD and visit the museum, the Royal Palace or the Russian market. And do not forget to take a walk in the shop Ambre (street 178) to make you happy...

Rooms are more like up scale touristic apartments, large and trendy. The roof terrace is really nice and you can enjoy cocktails and western cuisine dishes. Service is friendly and willing to please clients. I wouldn't call this a luxury hotel, more a good fashionable average one. The best of it the so very large spaced rooms, the worst the location. Although its very near most points of interest - walking distance to Royal Palace or Central Market, , this side of 110 street is ugly and dirty.
