This looks like a nice clean place to stay for a few weeks or months, and, as serviced apartments go, is not too expensive at around $450 per month. However, I was given a room opposite a panel beating car workshop which started work at 6 a.m.and finished at 7p.m. EVERY DAY. The noise was unbearable and afternoon siesta impossible. After a few days, lines of red blotches appeared on my stomach and upper body - bed bugs. When I reported this to the receptionist she just giggled. After several complaints I insisted that the mattress was put on the hot roof to kill the bed bugs, then sprayed with insecticide, but i had to start doing the job myself and the Khmer staff only finished it so as not to lose face. Luckily it was during the dry season.
I would dutifully put my rubbish (open bin) out every morning for collection only to find it still there, full, in the evening on my return. the staff were deeply offended when they saw me carrying my bin down to the dustbins.Needless to say, I saw rats the size of cats around the place, including the pool and the cleaning staff, average age about 15, appeared to have no concept of hygiene or how to use a mop and bucket.
Worst of all I was threatened by a very unpleasant guest when I insisted he should not be smoking in the communal areas of the hotel. I was so scared that I packed a bag and went to stay at the wonderful golden Gate, who put me up at very short notice when I explained the situation.
I felt I could not leave this horrible place as I would have lost my 2 month deposit - long term visitors to Phnom Penh should avoid this establlishment.
