Over the past six years, I have been lucky enough to stay at the Raffles in Siem Reap more than a dozen nights... it never gets old and it is always as good as the first time. From the minute the staff great you upon your arrival, calmly dispensing a cold jasmine towel to refresh your neck and face, to seating you with an exotic juice drink in a ceramic elephant mug, you always feel at home.
You are shortly thereafter whisked towards your room. As you walk the corridors of this 80+ year- old hotel you fully expect Hemingway to appear at any turn to enchant you with tales of the ancient far east. It is memorizing.
The rooms are ornately decorated. The flavor of SE Asian style is abundantly evident in the throw pillows, long drapes and 4-post bed. A bowl of fresh fruit awaited me with bananas, mango and tangerines.
If you need an iron you will have to ask for one as the rooms don't have them. One will be brought quickly, however.
There are a number of plugs for cell phones and a three prong adapter was provided for conversions.
Toiletries are plentiful and they will always provide more, with shampoo, soap, shower gel shaving kit, toothbrush, shower cap, comb, facial creme and loufah sponge provided.
If you think of skipping the buffet breakfast, don't :) Yes, it is a bit pricey at around 25 USD, but if you really were looking for the back- packers hotel you wouldn't be staying at the Raffles. Enjoy yourself. Enjoy the food. They will make any egg item you can think of. And they are very attentive.
Don't be afraid to leave a couple of dollars on the table when you are done; the serving staff are always grateful and I have found them deserving.
You can get a car to drive you to the airport when you leave for 35 USD. Or they would call you a regular taxi for 9-10 USD.
Until next time.... thank you as always for a 5 -star stay....

Besides charging me $70 to clean spilled wine in on my bed, the staff was mostly inexperienced and portly trained with limited to no English or French. Sofitel is by far a superior hotel in Phnom Penh.

Dear Sylvain V,

We are dissapointed to see we were not able to meet your expectations during your recent stay at Raffles Hotel Le Royal.

Our team had made every effort to accommodate your requests from an early complimentary 8am check-in in a higher category room followed by a 2nd room change to a suite to offer more space during your 3 night stay. We always try to assist our guests whenever possible and were able to repair the damaged TV from your room with no charge but could not remove the red wine stains from our duvet which you had offered and agreed to pay for.

It is unfortunate these events diminished your experience with us and we hope to have the opportunity to better serve you in the future.

Sincerely,

Jean-Pierre Joncas

I have come to truly appreciate the level of service, quality of the spa, food and overall atmosphere at the Raffles. I strongly recommend a visit to Phnom Penn during our 5th visit in the past three years.... and by all means, don’t miss out on the experience at the Raffles

Fine Raffles hotel in Phnom Penh city centre. Beautiful old world interior that makes this hotel one of the finer hotels in the city. Now part of the Accor chain of hotels. Outdoor swimming pool. Has two ballrooms for events etc.

The service at the Raffles Le Royal is everything you can expect from any raffles hotel. However the building and rooms are in desperate need of a renovation. I love old school charm but when is kept in good state: this one is tired and guests feel it. Also the AC in the room is so old you cannot control the temperature and you cannot turn it off either so our room was freezing.
We had breakfast at the hotel and was ok. The elephant bar has some good bar food.
