Two night trip to Phnom to visit family who are long term residents of Cambodia.
Have previously stayed at Raffles.
This is a majestic old hotel of a true colonial style located in central city a short distance ( 10 - 15 minute walk) from the Mekong riverfront.
Excellent service offered by all staff.
Rooms are colonial style ( still have a "key" to open doors, leave at reception when going out etc ) but are very well presented with high ceilings, old style furniture, timber floors etc.
It is apparent that the buildings and grounds are a constant maintenance/upgrade battle to maintain the high standard but this did not detract from our stay.
Not the cheapest in town by a long shot but in our opinion one of only a few 5 star options in the middle of the city.
Our visit was purely to visit family located close to the hotel but in any case will continue to stay at Raffles Le Royal in the future.
Overall a most pleasant change from the standard modern style properties of most major cities in Asia. Thanks to all staff.

The building is elegant and the bed comfortable ... but the world is full of historic, luxury hotels. Most of them manage to add good service and make their guests feel welcome. Unfortunately this did not happen durig our stay.
I had to carry my own luggage as the person at the door could not be inconvenienced to get off his cell phone.
We were asigned a room on the ground floor in front of a street festival. We had to insist with an unfriedly front desk to obtain a different room... with a stunning view on the garden, but microscopic cabinet space and a bathroom mirror hung so high we had to stay our tiptoes to use it.
The concierge reccomended two restaurants and added as an afterthought they were fully booked...
This is a magnificent hotel, but I reccomend to visit it just for a drink, as the attitude of the staff would make any longer stay pretty uncomfortable.

The start of our three week trip over here and then to Vietnam, starts at the Raffles hotel. Upon arrival we were met by the so friendly staff, who, to be honest could not do enough for us. Hotel is very clean, Air conditioning was perfect, bed was beautiful as were the showering amenities.
Chose this hotel as it was central to attend the tours of the S-21 and the killing fields. For those of you who are not familiar with this era of the seventies, be prepared for the tour as you will leave both the sites with an empty sorrow feeling.
Tuk Tuk trip to the Royal Palace, nice to look around and take in the workmanship.
Prepare to Barter for the transport, it is expected of you, whatever price the guy gives you....half it....they really do love it when you barter with them, ask in the hotel for an english speaking Tuk Tuk driver and you won't go wrong.

Lunch by the pool was great, water was really warm for a swim and again the staff very helpful. The Elephant bar in the hotel was amazing and the happy hour is a must as it is basically two for one. Prices 'outside' the happy hour are not cheap.

A visit to the 'sky Bar' is a must and even better in the daylight as you can see right across the city. Be warned, you cannot wear flip flops to go in the sky bar, shorts and t shirts are ok though. To find the find the sky bar from Raffles....stand at the front entrance, look across the rd and then look up !
Overall, a fantastic hotel, dated in the traditional Raffles way and a pleasure to stay there.

Room tip: Take a room overlooking the pools, As the hotel is in a quadrant, the noise levels are all but zero...

There for two nights and have to say it offered a place of peace and calm given that Phnom Penh is a frenetic, albeit fascinating, city.
Most of the comments are positive in that the room had everything one would expect, there was a great pool area and according to my wife, the spa area was also excellent. This was true of other public areas and the Elephant bar was a welcome respite after a day of doing the touristy bit.
There were a couple of restaurants - a fine dining one and a more 'down market' one where we ate one evening meal and took our breakfasts. Adequate but more quantity than quality.
Though not necessary a big issue, the floors, well at least ours, leading to the rooms are definitely a bit austere and as said not welcoming.
However, that apart, not a bad place to stay.

I really enjoyed the stay at Raffles Hotel Le Royal. Good service and wonderful breakfast. Love the pool by the way. We had a room towards the street. A little noicy. If I visit another time I will try to book a more quiet room.
