I was there in 2008. Did not know it was on tripadvisor. I have been to Babi Yar and Auschwitz but somehow this exhibit is one of the most powerful I have ever seen. You can feel the sorrow, the waste of human life. Combine this with a tour out to the killing fields and you can sense the low points of Cambodia history. Yes the temples in Siem Reap are nice to see but this is modern history in the capital.

Incredibly sad and depressing but an important part of history that needs to be remembered.
The photo's of the victims break your heart. Hoping that history never repeats itself

This is a must see place for our generation Y youths. It opens up a whole idea of what our world could do to humanity in the name of political ideology. The exhibit of torture method was unimaginable, and the place seems eerie. A visit to S21 complements the one at Killing Fields and it completes the scenario of the days of Khmer Rouge regime. Read through the various details and commentary in each of the rooms. You will come out of the visit being more appreciative of our current lives.

An important witness of the brutal Khmer Rouge era - Worth a visit especially for all who are interested in the recent history of Kambdoscha. Be well informed beforehand about the context and then deliberately go through the museum. More than 30 to 45 minutes does not need to.

Good restaurants and shops in the neighborhood. Easy access with tuktuk or moto from downtown Phnom Penh (10 min.)

This museum brought home to me the absolute ruthless cruelty of the Pol Pot regime. In that sense the visit was enlightening. We walked through there appalled by what we viewed and it was frightening. The last time I saw anything comparable to it was at the Nazi Matthausen Concentration Camp. I am hugely disappointed that we in the free world allowed such atrocities to be perpetrated on the ordinary people of Cambodia while by contrast we have used false reasoning to invade another sovereign nation less guilty of such appalling behaviour. It's not the sort of place I would take timid or emotional people to; but if you want to get a grasp of the depravity of the Pol Pot regime and understand why modern Cambodia has a struggle in playng catch up with its neighbours then visit this place.
