“Not quite a "Royal Palace"”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

Although this hotel is very well located, close to the Royal Palace (hence the name) and the river-front, it is rather run-down and needs a complete refresh throughout the interior. Our bathroom only had a shower, but there was no shower curtain. So, when you had a shower, most of the bathroom got wet. A silly design. Our room looked out on the wall of a building about 5 feet away, so we had to remember to close the drapes to ensure our privacy.

However, the hotel has a lovely rooftop swimming pool with a great view of the city. Breakfast was also good, and the staff can't do enough to help you.

We were on a tour, so did not know specifically what the cost was per night to stay, so we cannot comment on whether or not it was good value for the money. I suspect that our tour operator got a pretty good rate.

Room Tip: Nothing to suggest

Dear Valued Guest,
Thank you so much for your recent stay. We're glad to hear that you liked our rooftop swimming pool and enjoyed the breakfast. Sorry to hear that there was no curtain in shower room. Our housekeeping team has already replaced the curtain and there will be no problem for our future guests.
Anyway, thank you for our comments.

Warmest regards,

After reviewing tripadvisor at length I opted to stay here. As there had been some bad reviews about basic rooms I paid extra and took a balcony room overlooking the palace. My room was trendy large and lovely views over the palace. The roof bar was lovely for a cocktail and the pool was great to lounge at. Location is superb for a tourist as right next to palace, museum, and all main restaurants FCC, friends and romdeng. Pay extra and get the nice rooms and you won't grumble.

One thing to mention to single travellers. The hotel has a zero tolerance to sex tourism which I'm fine about. However occasionally you may get lucky in romance and the hotel makes you feel very awkward if you wish to have a guest. If your here for romance book elsewhere.

Room is functional except a few leakage issues with the shower. Paint is missing from skirting boards and some mould on shower curtin and windoe frame in bathroom. Buffet breakfast not much choice but there is an egg station. Restaurant set menu was quite good, unsure of price as was included but worth a try if you don't want to venture out for dinner. Roof top pool with cheap cocktails at happy hour. Walking distance to night market, FCC and other bars/restaurants.

Dear Megan,

Thank you very much for staying with us and spending the time writing us your reviews. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the drinks at our rooftop bar. Our maintenance team is touching up the minor maintenance issue and there will be no problem for our next guests. In addition, our chef is looking into to improve the choices for buffet breakfast.

Please accept our apologies and we sincerely hope that in spite of minor inconvenience that you countered, we will have the opportunity to welcoming you back in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

Was only here for a night, which was more than enough.
I was in a twin room, which felt more like a prison cell (the coloured basin and bed runners was possibly the only hint that I wasn't!)
Shower was terrible, took about 10mins to get the temperature at something that wasn't freezing cold or hot enough to melt your skin.
The advertised prices for the minibar don't include tax, so you'll need to factor this in to your costs.
Room keeping is in around 9am, so if you want a sleep in use the door hangers!
All in all, it was a barely average hotel room in a fairly central location.
Breakfast was just OK.
Wifi is shocking, as are the waiting times for the single lift in the building.
Stunning views from the roof top pool though!

Dear Mark,

Thank you for your reviews which mixed of positive and negative experience.
We're so sorry that your room had been assigned to lower floor which may have limited views. We actually use solar system to produce to the hot water. It may take a few minutes to get the hot water if many guests were taking shower at the same time. Most of our guests said it's the best location which they can see very view from our sky bar on the rooftop of the building.

Once again, please accept our apologies and we sincerely hope that in spite of this inconvenience, we will have the opportunity to welcoming you back in the near future.

Warmest regards,

This is my third stay at the Frangipani Royal Palace. The location is incredible, but the whole property seems to be suffering from a lack of maintenance: cracks in the paint everywhere, curtains falling off, scratched wash basins. This property needs some TLC. Staff was friendly but not as friendly as I remembered: no welcome fruit cocktail, no one to take your suitcase to your room. The Spa seems to be suffering from the same issues, it's not as clean as it used to be. I will probably not stay there next time I come. It also used to be relatively quiet, but now there is a lot of street noise/open air party that carries late into the night, so it's hard to get good shut eye.

The good: location great, rooms comfy. The bad: Wifi and elevators don't work so well. The ugly: the staff are keen to sell you on trips by scam artists like Delta Adventures. Staff lies about details and sells you the ticket, then Delta strands you in small town after river cruise to force you to buy overpriced hotel in small rural town.

Arriving in Phnom Penh in the evening, the staff at Frangipani Royal Palace welcomed me efficiently and warmly. The hotel itself is in a central location, good for walks along the river and only a block or so from the Royal Palace. It is a tad run down but not uncomfortably so. It is a beautiful, old building. Rooms are spacious and the entire hotel feels very airy and light. Wifi access was not great in my room but sometimes got it to work. Concierge arranges any transportation you wish. Attractive rooftop pool. Would stay here again! Staff was incredibly kind.

Dear Valued Guest,
Thank you so much for your recent stay and positive feedback. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay, loved the hotel's location and facilities. It would be a peak time that caused the internet running low coverage.
We look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel in a short distant future.
