Owner description: A visit to Phnom Penh is not complete without a visit to the famous Elephant Bar, an institution in the city and where the famous Raffles afternoon tea is served. The bar has a full range of wines, beers and spirits including one of Asia’s largest selection of gin with over 30 different gins. Our signature cocktail is the Femme Fatale, first concocted for Jacqueline Kennedy during her visit to Cambodia in 1967. The bar offers comfortable leather couches, restaurant seating and seats at the bar. You also have the choice of relaxing in the lounge seats on the balcony overlooking the lush tropical Elephant Bar garden.

We stayed for 5 wonderful nights at the Raffles Hotel Le Royal and had a wonderful time. But what a disappointment the famous Elephant Bar is. Not because of the cocktails (the famous Femme Fatale and a delicious Negroni, for example) - which are wonderful. Not because of the décor - which is lovely. Not because of the pianist - who is talented. And not because of the staff - who are the best (as in the rest of the hotel). But because SMOKING IS ALLOWED!!!!!******* Incroyable. Not so bad at the start of the evening. But this bar gets very busy. On our first evening we fancied a post-dinner night-cap - but one whiff of the choking air and we were out in a second. Tip - sit outside. Apparently you can eat in the Elephant Bar. Tip - don't!!!!

We arrived for afternoon tea although we were not guests at the hotel (and slightly under-dressed), none the less we were afforded the same courtesy and first class service. We were made to feel welcome by every member of staff from the doorman to the managers who could not be more helpful. We were guided to the Elephant Bar and ordered afternoon tea for two. The presentation and selection of cakes and savouries were delightful!
If you are in Phnom Penh we highly recommend a visit to this grand hotel.

We were interested in this place since we heard about its history, but we felt it had been spoofed up way too much. It was really tacky. There were some really interesting items on the menu, and while I guess it may be worth just simply walking through the place for one minute to say you've been there, we wanted to leave. We felt like it was a waste of an experience.

We popped in here for early evening drinks on each of our three nights staying at Raffles at the end of our visit to Cambodia.
It is a very popular place (helped no doubt by the extended happy hour!), so service can be rather slow - but it is well worth the wait just to experience the special ambience.

This is how five start hotel bars should be - refined but relaxed. I visited for the "happy hour" which actually ran for several hours until 21:00 during which the cocktails were half price.

At this reduced price they are still a little more expensive than most bars in Phnom Penh but in my opinion represent excellent value as the bar staff do not skimp on the ingredients and you get to experience the wonderful interior of the Elephant Bar. I actually prefer this place over Long Bar of the original Raffles in Singapore.
