“Excellent hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 December 2013

I recently organised a group of 19 people to stay at the Billabong Hotel. Over the past 6 months I have been in regular contact with the hotel with regard to this booking - paying deposits, rooming requirements, airport transfers etc. at all times replies were prompt & answered all my queries.

We arrived late at night to a very welcoming team at the front desk. We were quickly & efficiently checked in and given our allocated rooms. The rooms are awesome & are very, very roomy. The bed was comfortable, pillows perfect & shower exceptional. The choice of meals for breakfast would suit even fussy eaters with a good range of options. Additional cost for smoothies if wanted - I recommend them!

The dining area is around the pool & perfect for relaxing. Great to come back to after visiting the sites of the city. We ate many meals at the hotel & with the great range & price everyone was happy.

Both Larry & Janny went out of their way to ensure we were catered for. Nothing was too much effort. Great friendly staff, Vegemite on the breakfast table, thus place is worth staying at. Looking forward to a return visit in December 2014.

I booked this hotel for my stay as I wanted to have a pool.

My room was the cheapeast, smallest one. It was ok, aircon worked 80% of the time and everything was clean and tidy. Pool is small but you can fit in :)

Restauraunt is overpriced and does not have anything interesting on menu. Breakfasts are ok, as they are included, but 2USD for a Coke? 2USD for a tea as well is way to much for this kind of place.

Biggest minus is an internet, it does not work int the evening time at all. I think they should invest some money to have a proper connection as nowday it is very critical service. I sent some laundry that was promised to be done in 24h, on a second day I found out that my laundry is in reception waiting for pickup, I would expect that laundry is delivered to room?

Anyhow, with a lower price this place would be very good, but not with current price range.

Airiar,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our hotel.
However just to clarify..

A cup tea and a can of coke are in fact US$1.75. This is also inclusive of tax. As a responsible employer we feel it is important not to pay minimum wage and we also provide meals twice a day for all of our staff. This is taken into consideration when we price our menu.

Our menu also includes pizzas 30cm from US$6, Hamburgers and chips from $4.75, and various asian dishes from fried rice to Thai curries from US$5.25. From 4pm to 7pm there is also a happy hour with a one for one on all cocktails and beer.
We find it unfair for you to say there was nothing interesting on the menu. When you do not state what you personally find interesting.

Our internet does work everyday all day. When there are interruptions in service please inform the staff and it is a simple case of resetting the routers.

Sorry for the inconvenience of collecting your laundry at reception. We however find it more convenient for everyone if their returned items are checked on collection.

We hope this will help shine a different light on your view of our hotel.

Regards
Billabong Team

We got the deluxe family room with three beds, two singles and a huge queen or king, which I got haha.
At first we were led to a room on the ground floor which faced the pool, but it was still occupied (clerical error?) so we were taken to another room on the 3rd floor. The room was ginormous! Big enough to play a game of football. Compared to our hotel room in Singapore, this was at least 10 times as big. Washroom was huge too, with double sinks.

Beds were decent. Sheets, blanket, and pillow cases seemed clean enough. TV with many channels, I was able to get my KPOP fix, as there were some Korean channels.

Drinks in mini-fridge cost money, so I found out upon checkout, but wasn't too bad.

Only thing is the A/C unit was lacking in it's efficiency to cool the room. There is a ceiling fan as well, and that helped a bit, but just pushing around hot air is still just pushing around hot air in the room. The A/C unit is just too small for the room. Need either a bigger A/C unit, or more of them. Either that or the A/C unit in our room wasn't working too well. Even with it on all night, it had barely cooled the room by morning. This was the only hotel throughout our trip where the A/C was lacking. And the ceiling fan was super loud.

Did not get a chance to try out the pool.

The breakfast is decent. You can still get breakfast past their serving time, which was 10:30 I believe. We got the free breakfast at noon. I get one or two options really, a Cambodian breakfast which is fried rice or western style, with eggs, tomato, etc. I would recommend the fried rice breakfast. I had both and the fried rice is much better.

Staff is helpful. We had asked the front desk staff for a good local restaurant of where he eats, and not a touristy spot. He gave a good recommendation, Angkor House 3. Great food and cheap Angkor beer.

The hotel is within walking distance to the Central Market as well. You can pretty much take a tuk tuk anywhere, also, for $2 to 3 USD.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with A/C that works!

One word...wow ! Booked a family room with a queen bed and two large singles, and paid for one extra single bed so each of our 3 kids had their own space - naturally we expected to be somewhat cramped, but nothing could be further from the truth. The room (no 28) was vast, very clean, cool and quiet - just ideal! Billabong Hotel is situated in a quiet little street just a short walk from Central Market. Pool was large, perfect for kids and adults alike. Staff excellent, breakfast great too. All in all, would rate the Billabong experience 10 out of 10, families look no further!

This is a nice, clean well managed property. The pool is fantastic, the food is very good. The staff is very helpful. One of the owners, Larry, went out if his way to help us. The room was very large and very clean. The location is centralized.

Really pleased I budgeted extra and booked this hotel. Okay it's a tad pricier than what you would pay elsewhere in the city but it's well worth it. We paid $50 a night to get a huge deluxe room with breakfast. The pool is large and super clean and just what you need after walking the dusty streets is phnom Penh. you can tell the hotel is western owned as there are little details in the room that make it so comfortable.lots of plug points near your bed and round the room, a shaving mirror, light switches near the bed, a minisafe, kettle, tea and coffee etc. complimentary water daily etc. The bathroom is open plan with a shower curtain but water will go everywhere but this didn't pose as an issue as it dried up in no time.

Reception staff are very sweet and helpful and booked bus tickets to siem reap for us which was easy to sort out. Te bill was sorted very quickly as well. They were also able to sort of a tuk tuk for thr day quite easily which took us to the Genocide museum and killing Fields and grand palace for $22 for the day.

The hotel is located a few minutes walk from a large supermarket and the central market ( only open between 9-5). not a great location if you want to venture out at night but great if you want to stay in the grounds of the hotel which is what most people were doing anyway.

Breakfast was mediocre. Weak coffee, rubbery eggs and very thick cold pancakes. I was oka with toast and cereal so wasn't too bothered by this. Service at the restaurant is average, twice the staff missed orders and by the time the food arrived the kitchen had closed so we had to just have starters one night. ( closed at 9pm)

Would certainly recommend this hotel to families and for anyway who wants to be in a temporary oasis away from the hustle and bustle.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms a bit quieter and newer but any room is good? Make sure not near where new rooms a...
