We stayed in a family room here for two nights. Overall, the hotel matched our expectaions based on the website, although the two rooms we stayed in didn't quite look the same as the website photos - neither room had natural light and the beds in the childrens room were two singles, photos imply they are a bit larger.

That said though - the rooms on the ground floor were ideal for a young family in all other ways, being right beside the restaurant and pool, and no climbing the stairs by little legs required :). We ordered food around the pool on both days, and recommend the tapas selection (any three dishes for 13 USD). The loc lac meatballs were great, but hard to beat those Peking duck pancakes, which were a bit awesome.

The hotel is within a few minutes walk to the Royal Palace and the Independence monument, and tuk tuks on hand for all other excursions.

The hotel had pre-arranged an airport pick up for us when we arrived, which didn't arrive. Not a drama as we just got a taxi instead, but as soon as we checked in the reception acknowledged they had been short staffed due to the Khmer New Year holiday, and offered us breakfast to make up for it - much appreciated as we'd arrived at 7 am, so thank you.

A special mention to Lucky in the bar during the afternoon and evening, he is very friendly and funny, thanks for your humour :)

A few tips - some tuks tuks drivers from other areas get confused at which hotel you mean, there is another similar named near the Riverside district, be ready to have some idea of direction to offer ( no mean feat at night in a new city! But I managed it, so not impossible either!). If you stay make sure to donate to the charity the hotel supports, my 17 year old daughter loved the idea and left her hand print on the wall

Room Tip: The stairs are quite narrow and winding, would be tricky for some

Everyone at Hotel Nine was very happy reading your review that you left for us. We are sorry again that our taxi driver pulled out of the pickup on Khmer New Year even though he was scheduled. We have now looked into putting backup drivers for confirmed drivers on major holidays so no other guest will experience the inconvenience.

We are very glad you agree with our many other guests that the downstairs Suite is perfect for kids being near the pool and the much needed amenities of Cafe Lime Nine including the wonderful deal and quality of our Tapas plus our cocktail options.

Being one of the many hotels in Phnom Penh plus the local population of 2million does make it a challenge to get everyone aware of us. We have instructed the Front Desk to make sure more guest pick up our Khmer version of our card available on the Front Desk Counter to make it safely back to us.

Everyone at Hotel Nine would like to Thank you and Hope to have you as our guest again!

We enjoyed 2 nights at Hotel Nine. Perfect room for us - 2 singles in one room and a double in the other at a reasonable price. We ate in the little hotel restaurant and the food was very nice. friendly and helpful staff also. Great to talk to Lucky in the bar, good location.

My brother and I had a wonderful stay here. Our room was spacious, modern and comfortable. Most important it was clean, as was the entire hotel.

We were on the third floor with very little luggage so didn't mind the walk up and down. The hotel is a restful respite from the hubbub if the city with its cooling pool and shaded lounge areas. The breakfast buffet was excellent.

All staff were excellent: cheerful and helpful. Kai does a great job managing and we became good friends with Lucky, the bartender, whose enthusiasm and wit is infectious.

Because it is so small you can't help but get to know both the other guests as well as the employees.

Absolutely will be back.

Stayed here for 2 weeks.

As soon as the cab pulled up at the hotel, the staff came out and took my bags. Efficient check in and checkout, no fluffing around filling in irrelevant stuff.

Staff are really knowledgeable about Phnom Penh, other places in Cambodia and the culture and go out of their way to help with everything (even willing to help me look for a long term apartment!). Big kudos to Raby, Kheng, Chaiya, Lucky and Kai - was sad to leave you all and want to say thanks for your awesome and kind hospitality.

The hotel is undergoing many cool and modern changes both inside and out, has a relaxed atmosphere and is a great place to chill out by the pool. Rooms are modern, clean and stylishly designed. Plenty of things in the area, all kinds of food and local market very close by as well which is a big plus.

I look forward to going back again someday.

Pros- Very friendly and helpful local staff, nice happy hour with stiff drinks, decent common areas, decent location near independence monument

Cons- Black mold problem (see below), highly uncomfortable beds (myself and my friend could barely sleep the 2 days we were there), very minimal dingy rooms that are in need of major updates, barely adequate breakfast offerings, pool so tiny it's microscopic, very hard for tuk tuk drivers to find, surrounding area is not entirely safe (we were warned to hide our purses as pick pocketing is prevalent)

Note: Our initial room had black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. After calling it to the attention of the hotel staff, they were very kind in relocating us and helping us move our things. However, we noticed they placed guests in the same room the very next day despite the safety hazard! I was traveling with a friend and we chose this place due only to the low daily price, but lesson learned. You get what you pay for! Sad to leave a bad review considering how lovely the locals were, but I would not recommend this place to anyone!

I am very sorry you had the issue in the room you stayed. We currently reviewed the rooms and have started putting them in a more rigorous rolling maintenance block schedule. Our goal is to start refreshing the rooms starting after Khmer New Year (Mid April) and be completed by August. So we do hope that you will give us a try again. When you do just book on our website and use promo code "Direct" which will give you $5 off a night.

I am very happy to hear that you agree with our many other guests that our employees are very helpful and just plain rock. They take much pride in their jobs, love the conversations with the guests and genuinely care about everyone that stays with us.

We are sad to see and think it is unfair that you said we are located in a place of pickpockets when its a problem with any city in the world and not elevated or higher risk of where we are located. The front desk and security are trained to let guest know of normal vacation traveling safety and tell guests which is not to hold cameras out over curbs, not to carry purses in the hand loosely, but to secure it over the shoulder away from traffic and to just pay attention to your surroundings while sightseeing in Cambodia.

We do hope you had a enjoyable rest of your vacation and take care.

This was by far the highlight hotel of our Vietnam and Cambodia stay. They made us feel at home instantly, and any reservations we had about coming to Cambodia were quickly washed away by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. They helped us in booking transport to Siem Reap and took all the hassle out of our stay.

We stayed here at the beginning of our trip and loved that it wasn't on the Riverfront (we stayed there at the end and didn't enjoy it as much). There are people cooking all sorts of BBQ out the front that was delicious and smelled divine. They suggested a restaurant that was fully booked on our first night and came across another gem just around the corner from the hotel, an outside restaurant that was awesome and romantic.

On our last night we settled in to happy hours and enjoyed many cocktails by the pool, where we also donated to SISHA (South East Asia Investigations into Social and Humanitarian Activities) a charity that the hotel supports and that we were more than happy to help. We got to paint our hands on there wall so we could come back and see it later. The manager was also wonderful - and has a wonderful tail to tell.

The room was really big and so was the bathroom, both light and fresh. The staircase is narrow but the staff are more than happy to help with bags. The free breakfast was wonderful and fresh, we had an early bus to catch (before the kitchen was due to open) but they still had our breakfast ready to take away so we could have it on the bus.

Overall excellent, we plan on making Cambodia a regular travel experience and Hotel Nine will be our home base every time!!!
