Himawari Hotel Apartments
Ranked #27 of 274 Hotels in Phnom Penh
Reviewed 9 June 2011

I stayed in the Himawari suite, which has heaps of space in the lounge, dining area and a full kitchen and walk through wardrobe area. The room was very clean and nicely furnished. My room overlooked the neighbouring huge Cambodiana hotel so no view, but it was quiet and sunny. The pool is large and there are a good number of lounge chairs. The breakfast was reasonably good, could perhaps have more "western" hot food options, but that is probably being picky as I certainly did not go hungry - the croissants were particularly nice! The location is good, a little bit away from the noise and chaos of the central riverfront area, but close enough to walk there or catch a short ride on a tuk tuk. Across the road are a couple of good jewellery shops, as well as some little cafes in a couple of side streets. The staff were mostly very friendly and helpful, with the exception of the reception staff who were unhelpful, dismissive and frankly a bit grumpy. The restaurant, conceirge and housekeeping staff were all friendly and nice. Good English spoken throughout. Wifi internet only available in the lobby, not in the room which was a shame. They also don't have separate computers except in the business centre which you have to pay for. I used my iphone in the lobby to access internet.

Stay in Himawari from 25 till 28 May 2011. Book through Agoda and pay 130 USD/night for a studio including breakfast and internet. The studio is large, there are space here and with a little bit more of (pre) design/engineering they could have smth really wonderful !!! I stay room 122 on the first floor, not the best one as you do not have a river view and you are right on the street but eventually the noise was bearable.
The breakfast is the one of a 3 to 4 star hotel. Good but not a feast. As I dislike eggs, noodle and rice for breakfast, I was left with a little choice of viennoiserie and only one sort of (acceptable) cheese and one cold cut + fruit, cereal and yogurt. More than enough but if I compare with Cambodiana is a little bit less than there. Beware, you can ask any sort of coffee you like in the quantity you like. So every morning I was having my expresso and two lattes ! A good caffeinated start for a long day of work !!!
I saw the facilities but did not use them so no comment.
!! Special mention to the staff is a really great and make everything possible to help you from check-in till check-out.
I was very statisfied with the place especially the location which is also a big plus, not far from the "Corniche" on the TS river.
Note that two bedrooms apartments have riverview ! enquire with the hotel to check that out but I guess waking up in the morning with a view is smth that bright your day.

We were travelling in a big family group of 14 people and had booked 3 two-bedroom executive. the rooms were spacious and the people at the check in were very gracious. the check in was smooth and fast. the food places were not too far and a $1-2 ride on a tuk tuk would take you close to any good restaurant. we even found an indian restaurant v. close to the hotel.

Have stayed here more than 10 times in the last 7 years, since adopting our daughter from Cambodia. Staff always welcoming and friendly.

Have no idea what 'expat_sealover' means in his review - perhaps they couldn't understand *his* English!

Returning to Cambodia this time via Laos and Thailand reminds me why I love the Cambodian people so much. Their friendliness and smiles are genuine and not just a tactic to extricate as many dollars from your pocket as possible. The staff at the Himawari are among the best.

We stayed in a two bedroom appartment. The appartment was spaceous and well equipped. Good kitchen with 4 hubs, microwave, full size fridge freezer etc. There was also a washing machine, tv's with lots of channels and free fast internet.
The staff was very friendly and helpfull, But when asked for information or advise they either did not know or did not speak English.
For example we asked a few times about a rivercruise, but got a blank from the guest relations staff. When we sorted it out ourselves we found out late that the cruise was free for hotel guests, provided you had something to eat and drink on board. By the way, the cruise, sailing from the hotel jetty, is great - food was good, nice drinks, good service and great live music.
The hotel restaurant (Oyster) is OK - we went for the Mongalian bbq, which was good - especially as it included delicious fresh oysters. Breakfast is good, but not exceptional. The patisserie is good, but next door Cambodiana has a much much better one.
The hotel is close to the end of the boulevard and the royal palace, so great location.
The pool is good with a nice jaccuzzi.
We very much enjoyed our stay

This hotel is just right for where it is. On the banks of the Mekong River, it's got views and a terrace where you can have drinks on the river. The hotel itself is clean -- tile floors throughout which is most appropriate in the humid tropics, and the staff will take off their shoes before entering your room.

The rooms are spacious and the bathroom quite good. Lots of storage -- there was a kitchenette -- it's clearly set up for longer stays.

Bed was very comfortable and there was a great desk, narrow but the length of the wall, i.e. a few meters. Great for sorting out the various electronics.

The pool is fabulous: clean, a good 25 metres, and open early.

Restaurant is good and with a variety of food. You can get soup with vegetables at a reasonable price.

Only possible thing to fault the hotel is the old CRT TV, but in just about every other respect this is absolutely top notch.
