“A hidden treasure!”
Reviewed 8 September 2012 via mobile

Having booked a tour, which accommodated us in 4 and 5 star accommodation, we were a little concerned the cheap price tag of this hotel, but we relied on Trip Advisor reviews and booked in anyway. Boy, were we glad we did!

This hotel was the highlight accommodation of our trip to Cambodia (which included Raffles at Siem Reap). The room was spacious, well-appointed, beautifully decorated, with a balcony overlooking the swimming pool, where we were served breakfast.

The pool area is unbelievable. It is set in beautiful lush gardens with comfortable sunbeds and daybeds for pure relaxation around the lovely pool. The bar area is open all day, serves all of your basic needs and makes for a great place for a evening drink.

Being an old converted colonial mansion, the hotel is full of charm and period features. Included in the very reasonable room price was a lovely breakfast and a complimentary 30 min massage session for both of us. The staff were simply awesome.

Our biggest regret was only staying for one night. We can't wait to return some day! Highly recommended.

A beautiful oasis, luxuriant vegetation and a welcoming pool. The buildings are colonial and beautifully furnished though our room did feel that it was due for a re-fresh. Still, we spent little time in there. Friendly, polite staff although we were slightly annoyed that they had not advised us that they would be carrying out renovation works to their restaurant, resulting in annoying tapping noises if you did choose to spend time by the pool. I am sure its all looking beautiful now and it did not really spoil the stay. I

Many thanks for your kind comment. I am very sorry that the staff did not inform you about the noise of the renovation of the restaurant. The place really needed it! It is now completed and operating normally. Hope you will enjoy it during your next trip. Cheers, Alexis

What can I say that hasn't already been said? This hotel was recommended by a friend who stayed here and all the reviews on here just reiterated her positive comments. Having left it late to book the only room available was a private pool room which seemed an extravagance at $95 for a night but it was worth every cent (and I was there with my daughter, not on a romantic break). Unlike a previous reviewer I would say having a private pool is a real bonus - we were able to really relax on our own sun loungers around the pool and have a dip without anyone else around. It made the whole experience even more special and was lovely to come back to after a day sightseeing. Could not fault the hotel or the service, and having breakfast by the hotel pool was a lovely way to start the day. The complimentary massage was a nice touch.

The only little niggle was that the air conditioning was not as efficient as it could have been, but we found this a problem in quite a few places we stayed.

Close to everything but hidden away and quiet, this is a real gem. Hope to return again very soon.

Set in a walled garden, tranquil with tall trees around the pool and complimentary Sangria in the evening. The rooms are clean, light and spacious. The delightful staff are keen to please or just to pass the time of day. A cheap taxi ride or tuc-tuc to the cities sights. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The garden rooms have their own little area outside but the pool is a dream at night. Lovely breakf...

The staff and ambience make this a great place to stay. Terrific pool and a quiet location within close walking distance to some great shopping, restaurants and bars. Enjoyed staying here and would come back and stay again. Breakfast was large, with plenty of choice including cooked.

Room Tip: We booked a private pool room - not really necessary as the main pool is so nice, but room was big...

The Pavilion is located in the heart of PP in a beautiful old mansion. Spent two nights here in a superior double room and would definitely return to stay here in the future. The room we stayed in, as well as the overall hotel and pool area, was nicely decorated. The 25 minute complimentary massage was a nice bonus. The staff was very kind and answered all questions and booked us a cab to the airport. No complaints at all.

Having lived in north-west Cambodia for over a year, and having taken regular trips to the capital, I have stayed in many hotels in Phnom Penh. However, the Pavilion is definitely far and away my favourite. Set in an old colonial villa, the atmosphere is so relaxing, the rooms are tastefully decorated, and the hustle and bustle of the city seems miles away. The hotel is set in an excellent location - within walking distance of the riverfront and many of the main sights of Phnom Penh. The grounds are beautiful, with lush greenery, comfortable daybeds, and a lovely little bar and restaurant by the pool. The pool itself is also beautiful, and it's lit up at night, which is great as we often enjoyed a relaxing evening swim after a hard day's sightseeing or market-shopping. The food here is very good too - the inclusive breakfast was fresh and delicious. The staff here are so friendly, helpful, and accommodating - when we stayed we were told that there was some construction work going on, and so we were offered a bottle of wine per room, and a massage each free of charge - the massages were lovely and relaxing, we really enjoyed sipping the wine by the pool, AND we didn't even notice any of the construction noise!! However, one word of warning - BOOK WELL IN ADVANCE! This place is so popular that you'll struggle to get a room, even in low season, unless you book well ahead of your stay.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
It all started when we fell in love with a hidden gem of French-Khmer architecture from the 1920s near Wat Botum, one of the most venerable and original pagodas in Phnom Penh. Renovation and remodeling were led with due respect for the character of a building which had been, as we learnt it later on, a private retreat for Queen Consort Sisowath Kossamak, the late King Sihanouk's mother. Opened on August, 18, 2006 with 10 rooms, The Pavilion has slowly expanded over the years, offering now 36 accommodations throughout three more period buildings that have been added to the property: "The New House", former residence of the chief veterinarian at the Royal Palace; "The New Villa", formerly the private residence of a Cambodian senator, and "The Sun-Pool Villa", our latest addition which used to be lodgings for diplomats based in Phnom Penh. Each one has its own style and atmosphere, with distinctive architectural features such as an elaborate wooden stairway, intricate iron wrought railings, etc… ... more   less
