“Cannot fault the owners”

I have stayed in this hostel on numerous occasions across a couple of years. The accommodation is basic and the location not the best, you could probably get better elsewhere; but what it lacks in accommodation it makes up for in service. This hostel is family run by a very knowledgeable and helpful couple who speak excellent English. They will always offer advice and arrange things for you on your behalf if you ask them. On my last visit, I was travelling on my own and they invited me and a few other guests to join them for their family Chinese New Year celebrations where they offered us tasty food and beer. They made me feel really welcome and it made my experience in Phnom Penh all the more memorable.

A real dump! I can't believe this is in Lonely Planet. Electricity went out more than 40 times in 3 days. Young, inexperienced manager and touts required 6 or more people. Stayed at Smiley Guesthouse for remainder of my stay.

Our experience was dismal and we checked out 4 hours later. The place was like a brothel. The stairwells smelt like urine and it felt really sleazy. We checked into the Fairyland Hotel next door instead for the night and for $1 extra got a clean AC room with clean ensure and elevator that felt safe and well managed.

This is our 3rd stay in Sunday Guest house.

If you are looking for cheap and clean accommodation, this hostel will suit your needs. It's basic, but there is a hot shower (not that you need one in Cambodia) and beds are comfy.

It will take you just over 30 minutes to walk to the river front, but you can also get a tuk tuk for $3. Russian Market is 20 minutes away.

Staff is really friendly and does help with organising various tours.

Remember that this is a budget accommodation, so if you don't expect too much you won't be disappointed!

Nice and basic rooms for a low price. Location is so-so. We booked a really nice tuk-tuk tour through the hotel which visited the killing fields, the prison and the russian market for only $5/person (excluding entrance fees).

It might just be difficult to find a good and cheap place in Phnom Phen, Sunday guesthouse was cheap enough, but not really clean nor were the staff particularly friendly. Stayed in a double bed room with fan for two nights. Upon arrival we found out the bathroom was not cleaned, sink was leaking, no sheets for cover during the night, only a rather iffy towel kind of blanket. In addition the room was very noisy, right above a humming air-conditioning fan and we suffered from loads of mosquitoes coming in trough the bathroom. Only plus was the balcony which made for excellent lounging.

We had 5 nights here and our stay was very pleasant. It is run but a nice family who are friendly and helpful. We only paid $8 for a double room with private en-suite, hot water, fan, good wifi and TV. It is in a great local area where you can walk around the small streets and experience real local life and food. It's a 20minute walk to the river front, a 15 minute walk to the S21 museum and 25minute walk to the Russian market. The location for us was perfect as we were able to eat some amazing local food that isn't extortionately priced for tourists, get a real feel for Cambodian culture away from the backpacker area and walk to most tourist attractions without the need to pay for a tuktuk. If you want to experience culture, eat local/cheap food, enjoy a comfortable, well priced clean room and don't mind short walks this guesthouse is the perfect choice.
