“Gorgeous rooms, helpful staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2014 via mobile

Our second stay in a Frangipani Villa in Phnom Penh and we couldn't have been more pleased.

Our room was gorgeous, large, clean and filled with natural light. We loved the style of the hotel.

The staff were helpful and friendly. They would always smile and say hello if you passed them in a hallway.

We felt extremely welcome and were completely satisfied with our stay.

We chose this hotel (even though it was a little over our planned budget) as a friend of ours lives in Phnom Penh and its location was close to our friends flat.
We travelled as friends and got two twin rooms next to eachother.
We liked the size of the rooms. Our rooms also had a desk, a fridge, a safe and a comfy lounge chair.
The bath rooms were ok, but you could tell that the hotel is not brand new. Due to dampness and warm weather it looks like a refurbishment could be needed in the next 6 months.

The rooms and bathrooms were cleaned every day and we received fresh towels. In general everything was very clean.
We liked that there were little details everywhere, like guide books, brochures, some decorative shawls or toilet paper in a nice little wooden box. It showed that the owners think about style and how to make things nice for their guests.

The reception team was really really friendly.
For the breakfast you could chose from a menu between a choice of eggs, Asian noodles, toast + jam, fruit and fresh juice. It was ok, but it was not a lot.

Free wifi was included in the price and there were computers in the lobby area for guests to use.

The hotel is in a quiet side street and you can easily walk into town. I suppose that it is usually very quiet. While we were there, there was a building site next door and a motor saw (or something similar) started screeching at 7.00 am every day.

I would definitely come back to The Frangipani Villa-90s.

Room Tip: We had rooms 115 and 116 on the first floor and liked them a lot.

A group of NGO volunteers we stayed at Frangipani as it was close to a friends residence. The rooms are clean, the staff very friendly, the pool rather cool but refreshing, the rooftop bar very relaxing and the food very good quality. This hotel seems to be popular with volunteer groups and tours so book ahead.

Room Tip: Choose the street view. There really is no pool view

Dear Valued Guest,

We thank you so much for your recent stay and positive feedback. We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay and services provided our staff here. Most of NGOs, students and volunteers who involved in providing social works, they loved to stay at our hotels for both destinations – Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. The reasons, we're also caring the social responsibilities in fighting against sex tourism in our country.

Our team looks forward to serving and welcoming you back to our hotel soon!

We stayed in the studio room. It was nice, stylish and clean. It was annoying that only half the windows had curtains, so we we woken at dawn every day. The door lock was a nightmare to open (even the porter struggled to open it) and the bathroom door wouldn't close properly either.
The food in the restaurant was poor, although the breakfasts were fine.
All in all, it was nice but not good enough given the amount we were paying.

The hotel is away from the chaotic riverside but close to lovely areas with fantastic restaurants.
The rooms are clean, spacious, cosy with a lovely modern design. There's a peaceful garden to enjoy the real Cambodian coffee in the shade.
The hotel uses a solar heating system, meaning it takes a while to get the hot water, but believing no one on holiday is in rush, and we all can wait for the sake of going green/ eco-friendly.. let it run!
The staff is keen to help and nice and I had the best Khmer massage ever! There is space for improvement (i.e. breakfast), but leave the spoiled attitude at home and enjoy it, bearing in mind Cambodia is a developing amazing Country with a bad and sad recent past. To get a better idea, just visit the nearby S21/ Genocide Museum.
For a more cheerful experience instead, Angkor Wat, just amazing.

Having stayed at a few places in Cambodia, I appreciate when a hotel has good service. The staff members were extremely helpful and made the stay even more enjoyable. The rooms were clean, comfortable bed, hot water, air con and cable TV. The breakfast, included in the price, is delicious and I was happy to have a 'real' Cambodian coffee with my breakfast. The garden is quiet and pretty. Personally, I wanted to stay away from Riverside where it can get quite hectic, Frangipani was the perfect location to show my friend around and take her to the Russian Markets. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

The only thing I would suggest is that if you are organising travel to Kampot through the hotel, be clear on ordering the 'Express Bus'. I said I wanted a direct bus and got the local six hour bus instead of the two hour express, tourist bus. Put a dampner on things a tad but it may have come down to communication issues and what was available. Apart from that, a great stay all round.

The Frangipani 90s is a small hotel, personal and friendly. The rooms are spacious and clean, with air-conditioning, hot showers, everything you'd expect. The staff are always very keen to help. Remember this is Cambodia - so the hotel has to deal with some unreliable infrastructure that means you may not get what you might be used to in more developed countries - so have patience. Remember also that this is a country that only emerged from civil war a decade or so ago. So don't come expecting staff to successfully anticipate your every western whim. We saw a couple of instances of Europeans at other venues lose their temper and shout at people for things that were out of their control. This is pretty crass in the context of Cambodia's recent history. Come with some patience, a kind heart, and give the staff the opportunity to show what they can do - and you will have wonderful time. Always happy to advise you on where to go - and to organise your tuk-tuks!
