The Floating Island Guest House in Phnom Penh is a dirty and unsafe hotel and I would greatly recommend that you stay far away from it. Though the staff are quite pleasant and friendly, they do not make up for the horrible rooms.
The hotel is very unclean. There were 6-8 cobwebs in our room, mold was growing around the sink and at the bottom of the bathroom (because of the shower dripping), there is no toilet seat, and we killed 7 bugs, 3 of which were on our bed and/or pillows. Additionally, there were markings throughout the floor and on the walls.
But more than the dirt, the hotel is actually quite unsafe. It is built on stilts on the river and has probably shifted since it's original construction. Thus the floors seem to slant in one direction, our door had to be slammed shut (vibrating the 3 doors on either side), and the walls are thin to where if you pat your hand on them they will move. But the worst thing was the floors. It seems as though they have not kept up the maintenance for keeping the hotel safe. Boards were quite uneven in our room - some were very sturdy while others were not. Directly in front of the bathroom area it was so weak that my husband's right leg fell through it (up to his knee).
Though the staff apologized for the incident, they were not quick to offer any compensation. We firmly asked for a new room and they did give it to us. However, the floors were worse than our original room. They also did not offer to compensate us for the room or the medical bills occurred (though it wasn't required, some sort of gesture would have been appropriate).
So I would greatly recommend that you stay far away from this hotel.
