Great value for that price. We have very nice stay in that hotel. Only 10 minutes walk from centrum and Mekong river. Construction site near by hotel was disturbing, but its only temporarily. Breakfast was not nothing special, but its ok.

I stayed at this hotel while on a tour so I can’t comment on the price or value, but it was a good place to stay. The room I had was of decent size with a queen-sized bed, a wardrobe, a TV stand and a fridge. Didn’t use the TV as we got in late. Lighting was good. There was plenty of hot water. Air conditioning was available, but it was cool and not needed. Very little counter space in the bathroom. The wifi only worked intermittently. Some noise (music) from next door, but I put in my earplugs and went to sleep. When I woke up later all was quiet, but it started up again at 6 in the morning. Breakfast was adequate, with a choice of an omelet or fried eggs, toast and fruit.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room if you don't want to listen to music.

The hotel is very nice and has small rooms. It is clean and well kept. The location is very good. We stayed here beginning of December and decided to leave the hotel after one night. When we opened our window to see our view we discovered the construction works. The staff ( complete families) are sleeping in the building and this is annoying if you want to sleep in! The stop at 2400 and start at 0630 hrs. Unfortunately we tried to change our room but the other wing of the hotel was fully booked for the night.

This is my second time to the hotel, but I must say that I will not be coming back for the following reasons: the internet is not working except in the lobby, the water stays cold during the shower until I was about to get out. Sorry, Avalon... Adios.

This hotel is well situated quite near the Cultural Centre and you can get to the main shopping and eating areas within 15 minutes on foot.

I had the forsight to book a VIP Suite, which wasn't particularly expensive at $65 (45 pounds sterling) and this made a huge difference. There are only 2 such rooms and they are very spacious with very effective air conditioning and a marvellous large freestanding bath. This made a huge difference with the heat outdoors.

I had a peek into the other rooms and these all appeared to be very small and dingy and I would have wanted to stay in one, though the were cheap at under $25.

The room had a real wooden floor and cable TV and was kept very clean. There was a fridge in the room and this was kept stocked up with 7 complimentary bottles of water.

Breakfast was a little disappointing and consisted of low standard croissants, toast and jam, and a choice of boiled, fried, scrambled eggs or an omelette. Nothing came with them and the omelettes were just that - plain. No cheese or ham or mushrooms, just egg. There was tea and coffee, ovaltine and water to drink but no juices.

There was sign offering safety deposit facilities at reception but this consisted of putting you money into an envelope and this being put into the safe "later." No key was issued and I was not comfortable with this, however there were no issues at all.

Staff had little knowledge of English and were politely capable rather than being friendly.

I would stay here again.

Room Tip: If it falls within your budget, go for the VIP Suite.

The Avalon hotel is very well located, with a stunning view. Wanted a few days to go hiking and this is how we came across the Avalon, by pure accident. Had a great four days in which I felt very comfortable. Super nice staff, great breakfast with a large roof terrace for breakfast outside. The hotel owner personally gave us hiking tips. The central location makes the hotel the perfect starting point for activities. The hotel was built in the ’70 but still everything is clean and fresh. The room was ok however the bathroom was rather small. Breakfast was good, no complaints there and the staff is very friendly and polite. It’s a great place to come back to after a day of hiking. We’ll be back in the spring time. See ya!

Traveling to Laos was all worth it when we got to rest reall well here. It was not exactly perfect, but our room was so comfortable we just hit the sack right away on our first night. We were so tired and the hotel had clean and fresh-smelling bathrooms and robes. Our breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary, but it was filling and we enjoyed it. It was great to have freshly brewed coffee in the morning, even if we requested for it a bit late. The hotel was presentable and the furniture was very Asian. We enjoyed our stay here. It was simple, elegant and just right, especially for our budget.
