“Modern Hotel in Vientiane”
Reviewed 20 November 2011

This modern, medium-sized hotel is located away from the touristy areas of the city, down a short alley, so it's quiet. Rooms are good-sized, AC, fans, with clean bathrooms, comfortable beds and wireless internet. Several staff spoke English and gave accurate directions. Local shopping and eating was nearby or an easy 10-15 minute walk to other hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and the Mekong River. I prefer staying away from the crowded "tourist" hubs, so this location was ideal. Next time, I'll stay a few more days.

Room Tip: Standard rooms on first floor are quiet and convenient; executive rooms are larger, but upstairs.

We stayed 3 nights in one of the Executive rooms, which was very spacious, clean and comfortable. We were able to watch the Rugby World Cup and Premier League on the TV (no English commentary, but you can't have everything...). Wifi was a bit hit and miss, but we were supplied with cable access, which improved matters no end. We were hugely impressed at the high standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel.

The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful - Alex (the manager) handled our airport transfers and Ket (who seems to do most things) acted as our guide on a tour of the city and the Buddha Park. The location is convenient - a 10 minute walk to the shops and restaurants (though Coca next door is a lot closer if you're very hungry) and even less by tuk-tuk.

With airport transfers, breakfast and wifi included in the US$44 per night rate, this has to be one of the best value hotels anywhere. Would definitely stay again on a return trip to Vientiane.

Aroon Residence is one of the few Best Value for Money hotels we've stayed in since embarking on our SE Asian travels 6 month ago. It is definitely the cleanest and we absolutely enjoyed our stay in the Executive Suite - many thanks to the Wonderful Alex (Manager). Breakfast is typical SE Asian fare withTuesday's fried rice being our favourite and their Rice Porrige is so tasty. Alex, the hotel manager, transferred us to and from the airport, which was a bonus. It's disappointing reading some of the negative reviews because this hotel is complete value for money and so what if its located only 5 - 10 minutes from "where it's all supposed to be happening" - it's good exercise to walk and if you're too tired to walk back, then it's cheap enough to hail a tuk-tuk. If people want more from a good value for money hotel, then they should jolly well not be so stingy and opt pay more to stay in the so called 5 star facilities they desire - but, believe me most 5 star hotels don't deliver any more than Aroon does. Superb. Good news ... they've now installed WiFi with excellent reception.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for the Executive Suite - it's well worth it

The rooms are clean, but the location is not that good and far from the city center.

we booked the superieor room but it didnt have wifi access as specified on agoda, apparently only the ground floor has does so they moved us downstairs. although this was a standard room we didnt notice any difference between the two except that the cheaper one had wifi.
big shower, bed was reasonably comfy, very clean, breakfast was good enough, wifi was on and off. service was usually really good. we didnt do a whole lot of research before we booked the 4 nights in vientiane and realised after 1 day there wasnt a whole lot to do so moved our flight to LP ahead 2 days. we didnt expect a refund but thought we would ask anyway and they were very happy to give us one nights refund which we appreciated. They also offered to drop us off to the airport free of charge.

Room Tip: dont pay extra for superior room as the ones we looked at were the same

Firstly, rooms. we went for Executive Suite at USD36 per nite, inclusive of breakfast and free airport transfers. The entire hotel is superbly clean. The staff can speak average English but the boss is very fluent in both English and Chinese. Very helpful and friendly reception. They provide Day Tour with a hired car USD45 per day, so to me it's worth it if you have more than 2 persons. Breakfast is ok with American breakfast served everyday and other choices of porridge, spaghetti, sandwich, noodles which changes daily. Location is slightly out of the way compared to average tourist locations as recommended by Lonely Planet, however it's easy to get about with tuk tuk, or like us, rent a bicycle...

Room Tip: Executive Suites is at USD34 per nite for 2 persons. Great bargain to us. You can email the hotel di...
