“Average, but could be alot better”
Reviewed 6 May 2010

We wanted a swimming pool in Vientiane so the choice of hotels is quite limited. This hotel does have a lovely big swimming pool which is very clean and refreshing. However the sun loungers/chairs are possibly the most uncomfortable that I have ever sat on. Infact we ended up laying on the grass as this was more comfortable. They aren't cheap sun loungers either so no idea why they bought these ones.

Rooms are very comfortable and clean and have excellent wifi.

The breakfast is very average and we didn't bother going down on our last day - horrible instant sweetened coffee (no choice) and the breakfasts didn't look great. We stuck to the toast. I know that we are in Asia and I don't need a huge breakfast but decent coffee and tea is surely a must.

The staff are average, the least friendly that we have come across in Laos. I don't expect everyone to speak English but given that they are trying to attract a western clientele then I would have expected them to be more friendly.

The 15 minute walk from the town centre wasn't a problem for us and the tuk tuk is only 20,000 - 30,000 kip. All the other hotels that we have stayed at in Laos that are out of the town offer a free shuttle service, they don't here.

The overall decor, whilst being new is tacky and not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Oh and the fitness centre is a few machines in a tiny room with no air con.

They could make a number of improvements to make this a much better hotel - friendlier staff, comfortable sun loungers, remove the plastic from the chairs, better breakfast offering, more understated decor, free shuttle bus into town.

This is a difficult one. Despite my lack of the Laos language and most of the staff here have little English, they are eager and cordial and attentive at all times.
The hotel is situated out of the main hub and many tuc-tuc drivers have never heard of it which can lead to some scenic trips around the town.
There is a serious mosquito issue here which renders it impossible to sit out on the room terrace and there are no coils etc. to dissuade the pests.
They are clearly not yet used to some of the expectations of some western guests, i.e. They only had one bottle of wine in the cellar, a lot of the furniture in this relatively new hotel is still covered in the plastic film in which the chairs etc. were delivered . This can be uncomfortable in the hot season.
I forgive all this as they are so keen to please. There is a lovely pool and the food can be good if you stick to asian cuisine. The american breakfast best avoided by me at least.

We booked this hotel on the internet without any idea of what it would be like - mainly on the relatively cheap price of around $45. On arrival we were delighted. The room was completely 5* - huge, lovely bathroom, free wifi, big comfy beds, balcony. The pool is huge with a superb water feature, completely necessary after a hectic day in hot and dusty Vientiane. The staff are very attentive and smiley although, as the hotel is very quiet - new, only opening last September, some may have needed a little more practice at English hotel speak. This didn't detract from our enjoyment at all - just adding to the pleasure. The hotel is a little out of the way of the main tourist areas of Vientiane but the walk is easily doable and it was only 20,000 in a tuk tuk to Nam Phu anyway. I would heartily recommend the Leuxay to any one looking for a bit of luxury in Vientiane.
