The moment you walk into this building you will feel at home. It is a very nice hotel and the staff is very welcoming and willing to help you with any question. Rooms are not very big (with small balcony) but well equipped (including laptop with good internet connection) and all drinks and snacks in the room are complimentary. Limited but good quality breakfast and hotel is in the middle of the city centre so it is easy to walk to other places. Personally I do not like the shower in the bath (and that would be my only thing to be improved) but all amenities were there. Would recommend everybody without doubt to try this place; you can not go wrong.

Picked the Ansara based on TripAdvisor reviews and was not disappointed during a three-night stay in March 2012. Nice rooms and public area, great food and wonderful staff. Very central location just a couple of blocks from the Mekong.

Come and stay here if you can. Ansara is the best experience that my wife and I have ever had in a hotel. We have stayed in some of the best hotels around the world and still say this. We stayed in a Escape suite that was absolutely beautiful, spacious and very special indeed. The food was excellent, worthy of a strong restaurant in a major city such as London (the pastries and salmon that you get at breakfast especially good). The service was charming and efficient - easily the best on our Laos travels. Also, it was my wife's birthday and the management went the extra mile to arrange a romantic candle-lit dinner on our balcony, a cake was made for her and they booked us into the local spa on my request a couple of days before we came.

we thought the hotel was also very good value for money - considering that it is an international standard boutique hotel of high quality, the food and drinks are reasonable and you get many free things with the room that we stayed in.

Room Tip: If you can afford it and they are available, definitely choose a suite - the Escape is awesome.

We arrived with a pre booked car from hotel pick up went well arrived at hotel and got a welcome drink, very nice. The hotel in in the perfect spot quite but close to all. We were staying in room 12 on the top floor 2nd The room was a little small I felt but very clean and tidy we got a little bit of club noise from the block behind on Wednesday night but I think lower rooms would have no problem,a very nice touch drinks from fridge and nuts throught out your stay. The breakfast was good and wonderful setting in garden.

Room Tip: Go for lower floors

Vientiane felt very busy after Luang Prabang and Phonsavan and the Ansara was a very welcome oasis in the city. Beautiful rooms and setting, next door to a temple and very close to several restaurants and bars. Good staff but breakfast was not as good as you would expect from a hotel of this quality.

We spent 2 nights in the Ansara after a week in northern Laos. The beautifully restored house is situated in a small street with other very nice colonial houses. It is very easy to visit Vientiane by foot from the hotel and there are plenty of restaurants around. The hotel staff even recommended Makphet where we had an excellent meal.
The "savvy" rooms are of a good enough size with a well designed bathroom. We apreciated all the extras in the room, particularly the soft drinks and snacks. As for internet connection, it was very slow.
Breakfast was fine with excellent coffee but limited choice. We were given an adequate picnic breakfast to take with us on the 2nd morning as we were leaving very early for our flight to Pakse.
The staff was really pleasant and efficient.
We did not come across any other hotel in the middle of Vientiane par with the Ansara.

Stayed two separate nights here on the way to Luang Prabang and back. First night was in a Suite Escape which was beautiful and luxurious. (Minor gripe: no point providing a laptop in the room if the battery's flat and there's no cable to be found!)
Second night was a different story: we checked in at around 3pm but the suite wasn't ready, so they asked if we could wait 'a few minutes'. 40 minutes or so later, we were still sitting in the lobby, so I asked to be moved to a regular Savvy Room. We were checking out early the next morning so I didn't see the point of spending extra on the suite for such a short period of time (I know, I'm stingy that way!). Was somewhat annoyed that the Suite wasn't ready for a late afternoon check-in, I must say.
Contrary to some earlier reviews, I didn't mind the breakfast. Sure it's not an elaborate buffet like some other Asian hotels, but what they had was of a decent quality.
As for customer service, well, they COULD show a bit more enthusiasm I suppose. Then again, maybe I've been spoilt by the Thais!

Room Tip: If you get a good deal on a Suite Escape, take it!
