I had a medical emergency in Vientiane and I had to stay in the city for a couple of extra days before i could leave to Bangkok. There was only one room available during my stay and it was the Salana suite on the 6th floor (601). The room was very nice and the balcony is good place to see the life on the street. I even wittnessed one moped accident and shot it with my iPhone (video on YouTube). There was some problems with their CC machine and it took over an hour to fix it. I would recommend this Hotel to everybody

Salana is an excellent boutique hotel. The rooms are spacious. Internet is available both in room and in the lobby. The bar and restaurant has a nice sidewalk sitting arrangement. The hotel has very good spa offering traditional Lao massages which are worth the money. The food is decent. The hotel's situated at a walking distance from the riverfront promenade so no shortage of entertainment and eateries around it. The staff is very courteous and helpful. I would definitely go back.

very friendly, helpful staff. Well designed, comfortable room. Excellent restaurant, outside balcony attached to bar is perfect for sundowner beer. Great location, walking distance of central restaurants and night market. Only thing I could fault is no espresso coffee machine but that is about it!

This gem of a hotel is just a few steps from the Mekong and the night market. It's also surrounded by good restaurants and coffee shops, interesting galleries with locally made items and within walking distance, a cycle ride or short tuk tuk ride to the tourist spots. There is a new spa on the 2nd floor and shortly a bar on the 4th. The latter possibly not such a good idea as the rooms aren't particularly well insulated so one hopes it will close no later than 11pm.

Room Tip: Probably avoid the 4th floor in case the new bar does cause some noise

We stayed for a couple of nights, wished it had been longer. A really comfortable hotel, almost brand new. The staff were, as usual in Laos, most attentive and friendly. The hotel is boutique and as such seems quite homely. Our bedroom was spot on for our needs, we don't unpack for 2 night stays and so storage space was not a problem. Breakfast was excellent, lots of variety to suit all tastes. WiFi worked fine and was free.
The big plus for the Salana is its' situation, a few minutes stroll to the Mekong River, the scene of the hectic night market. Temples are all over the place, even directly opposite the hotel. A few minutes stroll in the direction away from the river is a backpackers area with some interesting bars. We did not try the restaurant in the hotel (we rarely do) preferring to try local restaurants. You are spoiled for choice in the area near the hotel and on the river front. The restaurant we enjoyed the most was on the opposite side of the road about 100 yards away.Called "Dok Champa Restaurant", 2 main courses,2 beers,1 juice and a plate of fresh fruit for under £10. And the food was good, as was the atmosphere outside in the "courtyard".
The Salana deserves to be busy.

Room Tip: We were in a room facing the "main" road and the temple, we had no problem with noise at a...

I booked this hotel with ease using agoda, and there were no problems with check in. The staff was courteous, and very friendly. I stayed here about one year ago and stayed on the 6th floor. The room was acceptably quite, however the wireless internet was very spotty. On my 6-7Jan. 2012 stay, my room was located on the third floor facing the street, and was pleasantly surprised that the wireless was excellent; however, dogs and street noise woke me several times. I would suggest requesting to stay on 4th or above, and not street facing. The morning breakfast is excellent, and the location is very good, being close to the Mekong, the night market, and many restaurants. The room cost is a factor in my average rating. I am not a spa person, however for $130 I would expect a gym or a pool, which the property is lacking. You are paying top dollar for limited amenities beyond the spa. My colleague stayed at the Lao Orchid (100 meters closer to the Mekong) for half the price. The Lao Orchid is a bit older, (but clean), and the breakfast is not as flash, but available at 6AM. I needed to leave by 6am, my colleague had breakfast, and I did not!

Room Tip: Go for 4th floor or higher rooms not facing the street
