Staff were so so kind and helpful with finding activities and making my stay more comfortable. Always greeted me and waved from across the street! Room had a great shower, great view = great value for money. 150.000 kip for en suite double. Good wifi. Tv AC

Room Tip: 484 - Top floor with a corner window facing the temple

Professional, helpfull and friendly staff. Walking distance to everything. Easy adjustable ac. Tv and breakfast included. Hot water. Triple room available with three single beds. Worth its price. The bus tickets they sell at the hotel is much more expensive than if you buy them at another place, such as tourist info or bus station though.

Stayed in both the Mixok Inn and the Mixok Guesthouse. Same street, only 20 meters from each other and same prices. 110.000 kip for a single room. There are important diffirences between the two.

The staff: At the guesthouse they are a bit pushy for money and after that are uninterested. No greetings when entering building, just watching tv. People at the Inn are more friendly and welcoming.

Rooms: Room I had at the guesthouse was dirtier, ants in the bathroom, hairs on the ground. The Inn was not the cleanest to, but better then the guesthouse.

The rest is pretty much the same, you get a basic breakfast included which is served at the Inn, no matter which one you stay at. Wifi is working, not to fast but working.

I would recommend the Inn with 4 points and give 2 points to the guesthouse.

We stayed at the Mixok Inn guesthouse which is on the same street one block from the sister company. We Looked at around 5 different guesthouses before we checked into this place. Vientiane is not the cheapest place but the difference between 120 kip and 150kip was quite significant. The rooms were new and had really comfortable beds and pillows cable TV, Aircon,WIFI in room, decent bathroom and free breakfast (limited options). Helpful staff can also organize onward travel. Two thumbs up.

The Mixok Guesthouse is located on Setthathirat Road, which is the main tourist street, just two blocks away from the Mekong River. There are shops, restaurants, temples and tourist sites within walking distance of the guesthouse. My husband and I stayed here for two nights en route to Luang Prabang. We did not stay in Vientiane to do any sightseeing in particular, but given the location of the guesthouse, we did end up seeing some of the city's major sites, so it was definitely a plus.

What we liked most about this guesthouse is that it is CLEAN. The floors were sparkling and the sheets fresh. In fact, we have been traveling for almost a year now, all over Asia, and the pillows at this guesthouse were probably the cleanest and newest that we have slept on. The mattresses were a little soft and you can hear the noise from the street at night, but I slept quite comfortably despite this (well, woke up with a little tweak on my neck and shoulders, but not too bad otherwise). The AC and TV worked and you get full WIFI signal even on the third floor. Our room was spacious so I even had enough space to do a little yoga in the morning!

Breakfast was average, not much to comment on, but at least it's included in the room rate.

Ladyboys do hang around street corners at night. I was with my husband so he did not get approached. Not sure if you're a single guy.

in all the time i have spent in SE Asia this is one of the best GH i have stayed at.
Price was the main reason we chose here as it is very reasonable. But everything about the place exceeds most GH. The room was newly revamped, very clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept in.
The staff were amazing, friendly and offered great advice which saved us alot of money.
They never tried to push their tours but told us how to do it all locally at a fraction of the price.
Its in a good location and has a internet cafe.
All in all.....two thumbs up!

There is not much wrong with this guesthouse: we got our room already early in the morning, the room was run-down but functional, WiFi worked fine. We had a good night's sleep there and the hotel is very centrally located so you can explore Vientiane by foot. Breakfast is not a big hit and is served at Mixok Inn just next door.

If you look for an OK place to stay for a night or two (why would you stay longer in Vientiane anyhow?) - take it. You won't find a much better deal if you want to book ahead.
