This is a lovely old colonial hotel and, I would venture to guess, luxurious by Vientiane standards. The building is airy, furnished sparingly with antique furniture, with beautiful old wood floors. As other reviewers noted, services and amenities are not those of a top-tier property. However, staying there reminded me of being in a lovingly restored, slightly austere, historic French country house. The bar off the lobby was a pleasant place to have an aperitif while waiting for friends, the buffet breakfast in the dining room offered an adequate selection of English/American/European and Asian options, laundry service was prompt, and front desk staff were friendly, although Lao telecom challenges prevented them from sending a fax on my behalf. Not 5-star accomodations, but a charming oasis in Vientiane. I would be happy to stay there again.
