I went to the Settha Palace after 2 weeks of backpacking through Laos. I knew I would want a luxury end to my trip as I was to be trekking in the north and wanted to have a couple of days relaxing before flying home.
Settha Palace is indeed the place to do this! It is probably slightly more expensive than it should be - but for a couple of nights it's great!
The service is excellent, the swimming pool is divine and they even allowed me an extended check-out time (at no extra cost) until 6pm as my flight was not until the evening.
All in all... Thank you Settha Palace and in particular - Sisouk (customer service manager).
Tip - do not use their laundry service - it is way too overpriced and you can pay a local some much needed kip to do it if you just go for a 5 minute walk into town.
