Staying in many hotels every year, but this is something special. It is a beautiful colonial hotel, all in dark wood and white marble. It is a small and quiet with lovely surroundings (pool and gardens). The room is just big enough. The staff are tremendously helpful and respect your privacy. All smiles and service. And no there is no elevator, but the stairs alone are already something to come back for!!!

The property is simply great and the staff is very friendly and helpful. During a strong rain in April and a subsequent power outage, water came into our room. We notified the front desk and immediately got a different room (upgrade to suite) and a complimentary drink. The manager was very dedicated to resolve the situation quickly.

The pool is very nice and the breakfast is delicious. Rooms are furnished in a very stylish / French manner and everything fits together. The gym is good but when we tried the AC did not work well.

The managers were

The room was average and fortunately, we only had to stay one night in it. Our room was located towards the back of the hotel which allowed all the smoke from those smoking on the outside rooms to have smoke drift inside to our room.

The hotel was also not as close to the waterfront as we would have liked.. The breakfast offerings were minimal but they did have freshly baked croissants which made up for the lack of variety. I would not stay again.

Room Tip: If you don't like cigarette smoke, mention this upon check in as the front desk was not helpful in moving us after we smelled the smoke.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're sorry that you had that experience with the cigarette smoke. Our investigation conducted on the same day of the incident revealed that it was a guest in a next door room that was disobeying our hotel wide no-smoking policy and was smoking inside the room. We take this seriously and any guests disobeying this policy have to pay a fine. Again, we are very sorry that this happened during your stay.

We book a superior room for two nights as a start to our visit to Laos. Having booked transportation with the hotel, we were surprisingly greeted by a highly deferential, aged chauffer in a London-style taxi at Vientiane airport on early morning. Check in was easy and speedy, property looked gorgeous in its well preserved, authentic colonial style. We were assigned room nr. 218 on the first floor were we immediately and comfortably settled. The attached photos should give you a first impression about how it looked like. After a shower and a small rest to recover from the long trip, we ventured out for a first visit to the city. It is a bit odd that there are no tuk-tuks right outside the hotel and assistance at the reception (although everybody was very kind and available) was not particularly helpful on that, but it turned out that many were waiting just around the block. The city turned out to be rather walkable anyway: the Mekong river is about 15 minutes walk away from the property. In the afternoon we had a swim at the pool, which is a little jewel in the small internal garden, a kind of sanctuary were to relax. We had dinner at the property. The featured Lao tasting menu is definitively worth a try. Breakfast menu was rather standard but good. We booked a Lao traditional massage for both of us. Treatment was performed professionally, although the spa premises are not particularly impressive and the staff a bit rough. On the negative side, the room turned out noisy: the aircond is quite loud (we had to turn it off) and intemperances from the road stay quite well audible inside, so earplugs were a must. We think rooms on the pool side should be quieter, although there are just few. A last general attention point, do not assume that everybody, everywhere in Laos is fluent in english.

Room Tip: Try to book a room on the pool side

Some hotels just have that something that makes you feel welcome, comfortable and relaxed - the Settha Palace is one of them. With a colonial feel, the public rooms are delightful - we especially liked the bar area. Whilst our bedroom wasn't particularly spacious, it was very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant one night and we were served a very good chateaubriand on a magnificent carved silver platter (it must have been worth a fortune).

Room Tip: Avoid rooms at the front of the hotel - noise from a bar!
