This was a nice and serene Wat to walk around in. Great place to visit while touring the laid back city of Vientiane.

It's not the oldest, nor the biggest, so why go ?
Well because it 's actually used. You're not walking around a disused temple or museum. The Laotian people actually come here to pay their respects. This is where you get a real feel for how everyday folk use the temples. Once you've seen one ruin you've seen them all. Here monks and persons go about their daily business. You know it's important to them because of the row of stalls along the road that leads up to the temple.
It's a bit further out than the rest but not too far to walk or take a tuk tuk. Oh and guess what - it's free.

If you have visited many temples before...this one basically has nothing spectacular to see. The only interesting thing about this temple is its history. The long myth tells about the belief long time ago that in order to make the area safe from unpleasant things or danger - one must sacrifice his life to protect all. This lady (which the temple built the shrine for...located in the middle of the temple hall inside) had had a broken heart, disappoint in love, got nothing more to lose and decided to sacrifice her life in order to save the people in her neighborhood. This temple then was built for her and they believed that her body is laying under the ground, below the shrine in the hall. People were suggested to pray for anything, but love issues.(because the lady had a broken heart and thus cannot full fill one's wish about love).

Interesting myth to hear and know. But there is really not much to see. Good site for killing time in viantiane.

There was a festival on the day we visited, with different villages
parading around the main temple of the complex in their large groups one after the other all playing music loudly, displaying their banners and showing just how happy they all were to be there. A number of Stupas and a Large reclining Budha also.

The first temple I visited, beautiful tranquil atmosphere and interesting tradional decorations, (windows, lamps) People really come here to get their wishes granted. If your request is granted then you have to return later with gifts of rice, coconut, bananas or flowers
