An excellent hotel, beautiful rooms. Stunningly located close to Mekong River and the river promenade. Fantastic breakfast buffee, whatever you want - you get it. Internet connections very good. Complimentary shuttle service to the city centre or whereever you want to go and pick up service as well. Very nice and helpful staff. I do recommend this hotel

Although the Don Chan is a bit removed from the wonderful chaos of Vientiane, the river walk to the action is not so very far and a great way to see what the locals are doing, biking, group outdoor exercises, family walks, etc. and a tuk tuk downtown is affordable and fun.
The room here is very comfortable, with a balcony overlooking the Mekong, dividing Thailand from Laos, and nice sitting area with all the fixings for a cup of tea in the afternoon. The beds and linens are superb, and the bathroom equally good.
The swimming pool is situated under an overhang, so in the shade most of the day, but a very welcome, quiet, relaxing patio after a day running around in the hub bub of busy Vientiane streets.
The breakfast buffet is adequate, varied, but nothing special.
We were disappointed at first by the location, but looking back I appreciate the quiet of the Don Chan Palace.

Room Tip: I would recommend asking for a room which overlooks the Mekong River which divides Thailand from Lao...

You see ads for this hotel all over town and in so many travel brochures in Laos. It is supposedly the tallest but probably dullest looking building in Vientiane. It really is an eyesore from a far. The room is large, clean, and nicely equipped. We had a room overlooking the Mekong river just across from Thailand so that was nice. The breakfast buffet is extensive though most look stale except for the noodle counter. The front desk staff try but obviously not trained to be efficient. Does it really take 4 rounds of asking to get to somebody who can check in?? Location is a bit off center but we enjoy our 15 min walk along the man-made water way before and after dinner. We got a great deal on hotel-club otherwise would not stay here.

This is an excellent hotel next to the Mekong River in Vientiane - Laos. The Hotel is
very clean, the rooms are large and well done with very nice bathrooms.
The staff are very friendly and enough cannot be said about them. This is the best
hotel in Vientiane at this time as far as I am concerned. I hear complaints about needing
to walk too far to get a public taxi, but if you cannot afford US$10. for a hotel taxi to just
about anywhere within city limits then you should stay home.
There is another new hotel being constructed a little further southeast along the river
and that will probably take first place when completed, but for now the Don Chan Palace
is the best place to stay. They also have an excellent buffet breakfast.

Supposely the only large 5star property In Vientiane. They can vouch that they are the tallest building though. A convention hotel with a number of facilities.

Location wise, it's like stranded on a piece of huge land by the river. A few hundred meters walk to the main street for everything, about a kilometre plus away is the riverside and night market, and the streets where all the life is happening there. Taxi's are unseen there, tuk tuks is like only cost effective choice apart from the hotel cars (USD10 per way)

Rooms were furnished to an older generation decor.
Staffs are generally friendly with low command of English, though friendly - a smile can be represented with a "Don't know at all" response. Simple questions like where can get a taxi - none of the porter staff could answer. Though nice in demeanour, perhaps they are not trained up to the level of offering alternatives or their command of language.

Buffet breakfast - I shied away from the international selection, best to stick to their selection or relish their local soup noodle dishes prepared ala minute which was better.

I had a possibility to receive there very nice rate (travel agency) and made decision to stay there for one night. I've been there also during huge event there. The staff is perfectly nice. Reception, reservation process - excellent. Event I had special request in case my luggage - perfect done :-) thank you.
The the room (lux one) was nice, clean and comfortable. With a Mekong view. Near the hotel there's a field which will be under big development and Vietnamese investment construction. Hope that rates than will be reasonable. So ask the reception before that in case of unexpected noise. Better that way :-) the SPA very nice ambience, nice stuff and service. Nice pool which is under roof and small part under the sky. When I've been there was too cold to swim, but area is clean and nice.
Restaurant looks too much "Chinese" I mean design. It a bit different than other places there. Breakfast quite nice.
10 minutes walking distance to the City, so not so far away.

My 3rd time to VTE and this hotel is reasonable for those who are on business meetings, conventions or events. It has ample meeting places and quiet corners for business discussions. We had a lunch meeting in the Chinese restaurant on the 2nd level, and their Dim Sum lunch buffet did not disappoint. We had about 20 different types of Dim Sum dishes served you could order as much as you want. They just kept on dishing out loads of Dim Sum from the kitchen. The rooms are clean, spacious and the views of the Mekong River is fantastic. This hotel is better for group travel than solo.
