Nice place, although at $55 my room (cheapest there) felt overpriced.
In its favor (for the price, compared to others locally), swimming pool and gym.
The gym equipment was good but lacking some obvious choices. Lots of jogging machines if you're into that.
The room was good, mozzy net was ripped which left a coupe of bloodusckers hanging around.
The (free) breakfast, honestly I felt uncomfortable eating here. Well attentive staff but it was not a great one for the price.
Free wifi was ok (not really fast but hey, it's Laos, right?).
All in all, I would stay here again, but I would try any other options first (lots are more funky, although the pool/gym combo are in this ones favor)

Room Tip: Ask for a view! Mine of the neighbours wall was... boring.

I stayed here for one night in January 2012, upon walking in the hotel has a beautiful lobby with artwork pieces throughout. I stayed in the standard room for $50 a night, they are of good size and clean. The original room they gave me was on the second floor just above the front desk. There was no view, just the building next door and it was very loud. I could hear the loud kitchen fan from the restaurant next door and people walking down the stairs which was next to my room. I walked down and asked the front desk if they had another room and explained the noise issue. They said there were no other rooms available, I told them that I was sorry and I would have to check out. To my surprise they pulled another standard room out of their magic hat. The new room was on the 4th floor overlooking the swimming pool and was very peaceful. The hotel is in a great location of Vientiane just minutes to the Mekong river, next to the cultural hall and within walking distance to many sites and restaurants in Vientiane. The hotel offers free breakfast each morning, has free wi-fi and computers for guest to use. They also have a nice swimming pool, spa (not heated), sauna and exercise room.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor room overlooking the swimming pool.

I have stayed in this hotel several times. They have upgraded and expanded, and now include a pool, spa and sauna. The breakfast area is enlarged and the food selection expanded. These are all great additions. Importantly, the service, staff, cleanliness and overall quality remains high.

The chanthapanya is not cheap by Vientiane standards. However, if peace of mind, a bit of luxury and a good location…spend the extra $5-10 as its worth it.

Free Wi-Fi is standard to all rooms.

This small hotel was situated a few minutes walk from the main shopping street and walking distance to all attractions. The breakfast area was in a covered open timber pavillion overlooking a nice garden, and the chef cooked your eggs to order. The hotel is also close to the Mekong River and it is also on the route taken by the Monks on their morning pilgrimage with local people sitting outside their houses offering them food so get up early. The rooms are of satisfactory size with beautiful timber floors together with a rear balcony overlooking the garden .It was so pleasant sitting out their at the end of the day discussing all that was seen that day and contemplating what to buy at the nightly markets which has a vast selection of local woven cloths and articles from many indigenous groups. It was also very competitively priced. The local restaurants were all excellent in both quality of food and price.

This is actually a humble concrete box of a hotel in a rather humble town. But a little well placed teak, marble, and other woodwork makes one feel that they are staying somewhere special. There are some minor cosmetic faults, but everything works. Location couldn't be better. As others have commented, it's amazing how quiet this place is considering it's in the middle of everything. Just two or three blocks toward the river and it's a completely different story. There was always someone with competent english in the hotel lobby.

There's nothing really special about this hotel. I chose it because we'd been staying in budget accommodation (with 65yo mother) and we wanted a comfortable option for a few nights.

You can't beat the location. It's a couple of blocks from the Mekong and the riverside markets, there are excellent eating options on the same block and the museum is across the road.

It overlooks the cultural centre which was very noisy with kids' concerts while we were there and the food is very average by Laos standards. They picked us up from the airport which was appreciated ($5USD), but on arrival (8pm) the restaurant couldn't provide us with a meal as the chef had gone home for the night.

The front desk provides currency exchange (US and AUD) but very limited assistance with tour and onward travel information, but the bell-boys and doormen were attentive.

The buffet breakfast was OK but get in early if you like bacon (especially if there are any Americans staying in the hotel).

The walls are paper thin and we could hear our neighbours snoring next door. The pool water was arctic but the deck had a nice sunny outlook in the mornings.

I don't think I'd stay here again. There are probably much better options in Vientiane, at better value. But by the same token, there wasn't anything major wrong with this place.

Stayed only one night in this nice place. Kind staff, clean and fairly sized rooms, TV with lots of channels and wifi in the room. Very good buffet, with asian, american and continental breakfast. It has a small open-air swimming pool and sauna. Shuttle service to the airport - cheaper than taxi.
