Anyone looking to catch a few winks of sleep while transiting through Colombo should consider this transit hotel. You'll need a boarding pass to stay here, since the hotel is located inside the airport. We traveled (family of four, one 8 year old and one 3 year old) on our way from HK to Male and had a six hour stopover here. Staying at the Serenediva Colombo Transit hotel meant that we did not need to leave the airport and our bags checked through all the way to Male. That was a perfect option for us since we were in the hotel and ready to get some sleep just minutes after stepping off the plane. Six hours later we felt refreshed and ready to board the next plane in the morning.

All of this is offered at a very good value: maximum 6 hour stay for USD52 (that includes tax), clean, modern rooms and maximum convenience.

The good: Location, value and convenience can't be beat!

The bad: The ceilings are made of false panels meaning that some points of light slip through. With the lights turned off it looks like you are sleeping under the stars (but indoors!).

And some tips: Don't forget to pack an overnight bag since you are likely to check your luggage through. Reserve the room in advance -- all you need to do is call and leave your name -- it’s that simple. There are also spa, jacuzzi, shower and massage services available at an hourly rate, without the need to stay in the hotel.
