Overall we cannot fault the service, collection from airport was good and efficient, although driving is hectic here and my partner suffered whiplash due to a near accident. The rooms are basic (very basic) but clean. Shower is horrendous either scalding hot or freezing cold. No Mosquito nets and given that they are right in front of a huge marsh area this is a problem. We were all bitten more on the 2 nights here than anywhere else and we stayed all over Sri Lanka. One other annoying point was being told my final bill was one amount but on producing a Visa card they arbitrarily added 4% to the bill without telling me and handed the stub to me to sign. Overall an average "in a bind" guesthouse - I would not recommend overall.

We needed a budget accommodation for just one night in Colombo and chose this place. Reached late at night and left early in the morning, so couldn't see around much. The room size was decent, small bathrooms, and overall quite clean.

The owners were quite helpful and waited for us even though we reached quite late. Just one quibble - the place was a bit difficult to track down.

I found the place a bit expensive, but then so is every other place in Colombo within this range.

A lovely little boutique hotel / villa / guesthouse with very friendly people, great food, clean comfy rooms with AC, fans, tv and hot water...really loved staying here. The best thing about The Saffron is the unfailingly helpful and friendly manager, and the fact that there were no hidden costs (quite a rare occasion in Sri Lanka, we found). The other bonus was the unbelievably comfortable beds! Beware, however, that the surroundings do not quite look like the pictures on the website, and that it is quite a way out of the centre of town. Even though the manager arranged our tuk-tuk drivers, they were not conversant in English, and more often than not feigned they did not know where our destination was and tried to get a few extra rupees on the metre. Apart from the manager, the staff are not fluent in English, so communication is limited. Overall, though, I would unfailingly recommend The Saffron, provided you do not mind being out of the centre of town, and don't mind the extra spending on tuk-tuks to and fro.

What can I say!!! My Partner(french) And I(English) had the most amazing 3 week adventure around the stunning Island of Sri Lanka.

We initially booked 3 nights accommodation at the Hotel Saffron and upon our arrival at Colombo Int' airport we were greeted by a very smiley, pretty cool looking, short Sri Lankan Man named Anthony.

Our first experience in Sri Lanka, the drive from the airport down to Anthony's Hotel which I thought we'd never reach due to the crazyness of Sri Lankan drivers and any other such obsticals on the roads.

Checked into a beautiful double room with a comfy, solid 4 poster bed in a lovely old converted house where we met Anthony's partner.

Amazing food, just so tasty and cooked from the heart we sat down and planned a 3 week trip around the Island. Anthony was very helpful in helping to fine tune our itinerary and after two nights at the Saffron we set off with Anthony him self, as the other drivers who work with Anthony were all out on separate trips and to have Anthony himself driving us we felt very privileged.

Throughout the whole trip Anthony always kept his calm and made our trip truly one of the most amazing adventures we have had.

All the accommodation Anthony booked for us was awesome not one single bad point.

We highly recommend Anthony as a driver, host, and friend on you own unique adventure in the Beautiful country of Sri Lanka

in truth it was an excellent stay at this hotel. I felt it is my home. staff was very friendly manner. I loved their food. room was very comfortable with fast wi-fi , hot water and strong a/con. I am not hesitate to recomand this cozy hotel to travelers who wish to stay at colombo. only one drawback is little bit faraway from the city. but they will arrange a tuk tuk any time for a reasonable rate and when compare with others in the city this is value for money. calm and quiet. who love without hustle and bustle then you will anjoy your stay at the saffron. not even that they do arrange tours with well known drivers on our request.

Room Tip: select back side you will get a room with a good view

Nice little hotel, very friendly staff.
Our room was well presented, the furniture very sturdy and quality wood.
Bathroom and shower was nice, a interesting shower too.
The bed could have done with a little thicker matress as you could feel the wodden slats of the frame if you sat up.
The decoration was ok, our room needed a little attention to detail, One part of the wall needed a second coat of paint and one item of furniture let the room dawon needing a re-finish. the item worked fine but the laquer was very tired. shame it let the room down a little when you noticed it.
Breakfast was good, limited choice but this seemed the way of Sri Lanka's well priced hotels.
Definately would stay here again. Planning another trip now even!

Room Tip: All rooms seemed the same, we had a room at the back which overlooked a river. Nice view.

Slightly outside the center but only a 300 rupee to the train station. Rooms were fine with a quirky shower. Family run who were all very kind and welcoming! Nice breakfast too :)

Overall great value for money! Thank the lord for the aircon in the room!
