“Beautiful Traditional Home”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

Bangalawa is a beautiful guest house with lots of character. Matahari was really helpful and gave us some great tips for seeing the city. A lovely place to stay and I would recommend it. The only point to consider is that it is about 6-7km from Galle Green or Fort, however a tuk tuk is easy to arrange.

Room Tip: The delux double room is certainly worth the extra money.

We traveled to Sri Lanka with our family for a wedding and to meet up with other friends and family we haven't seen in years. As this was my first visit to Sri Lanka in nearly 27 years, I was worried about not being able to find a secure and comfortable place for all of us. Our group consisted of my sister + 2 kids’ age 3 and 4 at that time and our mom. Using search engine, I stumbled upon this villa’s advertisement. After few queries with our future host Manahari, we were able to secure this spot. Manahari is very informative, extremely helpful and answered all my questions. We couldn't have found a more perfect holiday rental home for our needs and Manahari and her husband lives right next door which is a bonus!
The villa was just as pictured – specious and nicely furnished. It is charming and beautifully decorated with its remarkable clay/brick patterned walls. This lovely 2 floor villa offered us all the amenities and comforts we desired. The pond with gold fish is a lovely attraction, especially in the evening when the fresh breeze comes. Many evenings we sat by the pond with a glass of wine to unwind our day.
Each bedroom has lots of space to move around and has many closets to store your clothes, luggage and valuables. The beds are comfortable. Each bedroom is equipped with a fan and an AC and this home has total of 3 bathrooms!! The main level bedroom has adjoining bathroom which was a great plus for our mom. This room also has an access to small lovely garden - which can be use for morning meditation, yoga or just to sit and enjoy your morning coffee. It is very peaceful in the morning!
The kitchen needs little bit more dishes but as a visitor you have pretty much everything you’ll need in the house. Parking is tricky with a larger vehicle, but crafty drivers know how to get around in/out of a tight spot and this is the Sri Lanka we hoped for! On our next trip we will definitely stay with Manahari.
The strange thing was this villa is right in the middle of the town but yet, you don’t hear any noise and the hustle bustle happening at the intersection. To sum up it was a wonderful three weeks, fantastic location and the weather and we will definitely be returning.

Bangalawa is beautiful. We stayed in the downstairs room. Polished concrete floors, dark wooden doors, beautiful bathroom with fresh cut flowers. Sparkling clean and Matahari so helpful in assisting us plan the rest of our trip. Can't recommend enough.

My colleagues and I returned to Bangalawa because we were very pleased with the previous visit about a year back. Although this residence is located at a very busy intersection, the side street that takes us to Bangalawa is unusually quiet, somewhat secluded, free of hustle and bustle of the main street nearby.

The fact that the owners are next door is a relief for foreign guests just in case there is a need to consult on travel planning within the country, business meetings and verifying locations etc.

The facilities of this boutique hotel are extra ordinary. The owners have paid attention to little details particularly in planning the lay out of the rooms and toilet facilities. Although we did not use the self cooking area, it certainly becomes useful when take-out food is brought to the premises. The little indoor pond with gold fish floating around by the lounge is an attraction.

The adjoining garden helps one enjoy fresh air, particularly in the mornings .In the immediate neighbourhood we discovered a few restaurants that the foreign guests have no difficulty in patronizing. We were very happy that we chose Bangalawa for the second time!

Room Tip: Select the room downstairs to gain easy access to the garden!

I had a wonderful time staying here. Not only was the house beautiful. but the owners were wonderful. They were friendly, helpful and made you feel like part of their family. I became ill while there and they could not have been kinder to me. Checking in on me often, bringing me medication and offering me food and drinks. I would have felt so alone without them for sure! I would definitely stay there again if I was to go back to Colombo. I highly recommend it!

An excellent location to explore Colombo city and hosted by lovely people. A homely place for spending a relaxing time in a tranquil, comfy haven with a tropical setting and to experience true definition of hospitality. We will never hesitate to go back there again for our next holiday and recommend it to anyone who is planning to stay in Colombo for a holiday.

Room Tip: The room on ground floor is best for elderly since the other rooms are on first floor.
