Spent 5 nights in this small and friendly Hotel witch was a great choice for us, for a short stay because of the location and the staff. Our main subject was shopping and sightseeing both we have done well thanks to Shanta and his team who's were never getting tired of our questions about where to go what to do and always tried to help us in and out of the Hotel.
The real value of this hotel is the staff and the Jacuzzi what we used every afternoon, loved to watch the train in the morning on the sea side running, want to go back later this year to Sri Lanka and we will stay here again, thanks to all of the staff at the Ocean Front. Miki & Rose

The Ocean Front was the perfect hotel for us, located in an area that makes it easy to discover the city just by walking around. Welcome was totally friendly, and the best part was to jump into the jacuzzi in the evening after an exhausting walk :-) Absolutely romantic. And located at the sea side. We enjoyed to stay there on our last night of the trip through Sri Lanka. Would for sure come again.

We were lucky enough to have the Jacuzzi on the deck right outside our room! We used it everyday! The building is not appealing from the outside but then again, you're staying inside the hotel - not outside. The inside is beautiful - decorated tastefully and simply. The staff and managers were so helpful and accommodating. One of the managers even gave us his brother's number, who is a tour guide in Kandy, to help with the next stop on our trip. The breakfast and dinner was an abundance of food and freshly made. The rooms were comfortable with AC and a modernized bathroom. Having a safe and a fridge was helpful. We would definitely stay there again. There is a train that runs between the hotel and the beach across the street but not so loud that it was distracting at all. It was great just to sit on the deck and look out and see the water. nice job!!

Room Tip: ask for the top floor. you have to walk up the steep stairs but you get the deck and Jacuzzi right...

If like me, you're arriving having endured a long haul night flight, then this is for you. Location wise it's fine - nothing special but it's about 20 mins from the centre and is right by the ocean - but no beach, however, the rooms are perfect with a/c, comfortable beds, en suites with rain showers and if you're lucky, a sea view balcony with a jacuzzi ... plus breakfast is great and most booking deals include it in the price. From here the train fare to colombo fort station is 20 LKRs - that's 10p (UK) or 15c (US) and takes 20 mins, then you can continue your journey to wherever...

The Ocean Front is a small boutique hotel tucked in a corner of one of the busiest areas of colombo. Its got an excellent location right in front of the sea and the train tracks. If you dont like the noise of trains then this ones not for you. But for us it was beautiful to wake up in the mornings to the sound of waves and trains. We arrived in this hotel pretty late at night when they were having some problem with the water connection. So we were made to wait in the lobby for almost an hour. Annoying but the manager was very apologetic about it and gave us free drinks and snacks to pass our time. We stayed in this hotel for 1 night before heading to Kalutara and another night on our way back. The room that we got on the first night was small and the windows did not have any locks. However it was neat and clean and the beds were very comfortable. The room that we got on our way back was really big with a balcony right outside which had a jacuzzi and over looked the sea. The food was pretty decent too, nothing out of the ordinary. The chef would go out of his way to make special dishes only for us. Overall it was a pleasant stay , the staff was very friendly. However it was not worth the price we paid for it. With a little extra money we could have booked a Hilton or a Taj Samudra!!

Can't say enough good things about the staff at this hotel - they really made our stay. Our flight arrived very late in the evening (or early in the morning) and we didn't arrive at the hotel until 3AM. The staff stayed up waiting for us and made sure we were properly settled before turning in for the night. We requested the traditional Sri Lankan breakfast of string hoppers and it was delicious! Even when we brought back fruit from Pettah market, the staff were able to juice the fruit for us and prepare it on a beautifully arranged tray.

The breakfast was so good that when we met up with our friends in Colombo they insisted on having breakfast with us. The hotel was very accommodating and were able to fit in five additional breakfast portions on short notice.

The location is also great - it is around 170 rupees in a tuk tuk to the Old Dutch Hospital for dinner, and Galle Face Green is just a short hop away.

The only thing is that there is a nightclub just down the street that can be a bit noisy, but we were so tuckered out from traveling around anyway that it didn't really bother our sleep. Also the train runs right across the street along the ocean front from the hotel, but I thought that was more charming rather than intrusive.

This was the first hotel we stayed in on our recent trip to Sri Lanka, and we booked it online from the UK, wanting somewhere reasonable to stay for our first few two nights while we found our feet.

The Manager and staff were lovely - but I have yet to stay anywhere in Sri Lanka where this isn't the case! They were very honest about the fact that Booking.com had over charged us (as one of the rooms we booked was single occupancy), so we got a free breakfast each. This was a nice surprise - they didn't need to say anything as were unaware that we'd paid too much.

The hotel is a lot smaller than it appears on Booking.com, but it is nicely decorated and minimal, with big bedrooms and nice bathrooms. There's even a Jacuzzi on the terrace, which we weren't expecting. The rooms have hot water and air con, as well as ceiling fans. They have lovely high ceilings too, and lots of cool batik hangings and polished concrete.

There were only two cons:

- the food is very overpriced (especially the breakfasts), so we only ate the freebie!
- there is a nightclub a couple of streets down that plays very loud music all night. The Manager has been endeavouring to get this sorted through the police and local council as the club is operating without proper soundproofing, but if you are a light sleeper, or have small children, it might not be the best choice.
- the coastal train line is also directly out front, and with trains running from quite early in the morning until the evening, this also caused sound pollution.

All in all, a nice, very clean, friendly hotel in a good location which would benefit from improved secondary glazing and reduced prices in the restaurant.

Room Tip: If there are rooms at the back - choose these. I didn't check as I used ear plugs.
